Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Warm, homely, traditional, friendly, Cask Ales ... what more can you want? Oh yes, a Laotian restaurant upstairs offering great food. All this and more in the Crown and Cushion. More like this please in this area of London and less of the vast, cold...'cocktail bar' palaces!More

I went with work colleagues for the Thai food that is located upstairs. The pub has a traditional look and was quite busy. The Thai restaurant upstairs is quite small and has a slightly amateurish decor. There is a TV playing music and spacing is...quite tight. The food is delivered quickly and the staff are pleasant. The food is average and well-portioned. The chicken skewers were particularly well made. No alcohol is served in the restaurant and requires this to be purchased downstairs in the pub, which is a bit of an inconvenience. The prices are also average for London. Overall it is a simple average experience that does not leave any lasting memories, but is fine for a stopover if in the area.More

Excellent Thai food served by friendly staff and at a reasonable price. Laab was excellent. Can eat downstairs in the bar, which is quieter at lunch than dinner, alternatively more seating is available upstairs.

Unfortunately, I had to deal with a waiter (I don't know the name, a man serving beers, see picture below) who, without absolutely any reason, was incredibly hostile towards me when I just wanted to ask if the kitchen was still open. I have never...had this experience in a London pub, but I want to bring attention to it. My reaction to this individual was appropriate, but he continued to laugh at me. Totally unprofessional. We had to leave the place.More

Good Thai food, fast and friendly service, decent prices. We ate in the pub - plenty of atmosphere - the restuarant upstairs looked a little clinical but good if you want somewhere quieter. The menu is almost entirely Thai but one of my two friends...did order fish and chips which looked fine and he enjoyed it. The Shiraz was fine, better than the average pub wine. My friends seemed to enjoy the Pinot and Old Speckled Hen. Cheap for London. I don't think you can get burgers here. Anyway you'd be mad to order one with decent Thai food on offer. I'd been here before and hope to return before too long.More

First and last time at this place, we paid over the top for drinks and ordered food, we've now been waiting over an hour for a burger, how hard can that be? Nice to have footie to watch while you're waiting for your food

Visited the restaurant above the pub with our adult children, there were 6 in our group. We each had an Asian side and main, there was really good choice. and everything was amazing. The service was excellent and the staff friendly. This restaurant is very...good value for money. You get your drinks from the pub downstairs, their prices are also good for London but not a great selection of white wines.More

I enjoyed a lovely Thai meal at the Crown and Cushion. The restaurant is above the pub, small but very busy, so I recommend booking a table. We shared a mixed hot starter dish which was very good. I had Padt Thai with prawns which...was delicious. My friend had the green curry which she thought was a bit thin. We greedily had banana fritter with ice cream to finish - I suggest you share one portion between two as it is a large portion! The staff were friendly. It was very good value for money.More

A truly interesting place. The main floor is a genuine local pub with typical pub food and drink. The upstairs is essentially a Thai restaurant, which also serves pub food. We had a drink in the pub and had some fun conversations with the locals,...who were super friendly. We then went upstairs to the bright and airy restaurant. We enjoyed delicious Thai dishes (with some chips as well). It is a fun combination of delicious foods and a great atmosphere.More

Scruffy Irish bar with food served at tables in the pub, or at the restaurant upstairs. Simply the best Thai and Laos food I have ever eaten. I try to go once a month for the divine Guinness and hot spicy Asian food. It has...no airs and graces, but delivers consistently good meals. The mixed started shows the vaiety from dumpling to fishcakes and the crispiest spring rolls I've ever had. Mains run from Thia staples to Loas specialities. THe duck Larb is very good, but pork or beef larb are excellent too. The raw salmon salad is to be recommended in the summer, it's fiery heat will leave you cooler than when you went in. Oh, and did I mention the fantastic Guinness.More

Visited this traditional London pub in Waterloo yesterday for lunch. Two of us had traditional pub food, scampi and chips and a cheese burger and chips whilst the other two enjoyed fantastic Pad Thai chosen from an extensive menu of Thai and Lao dishes. Best...Thia food that I have eaten in ages. Good value as well, and I am keen to return to try some more of their asian dishes.More

I went there for lunch since it was well rated on Tripadvisor. First, you need to know 2 things: they serve both Asian food and pub food, and you have to order the food upstairs. Ok, if you don't know it, it's not the displayed...info that will help you a lot. I just wanted a quick local bite, so I went with the food pub. This was highly processed food, Tesco sausages with with powder mashed potatoes and watery gravy. Even the beer was mild. Never again, thanks!More

Well….. we were walking home to our hotel , we fancied a nightcap. Spotted this “pub” across the road and decided to chance it…….. well we were pleasantly surprised. Landlord and barmaid ( Kayi) were very welcoming and made us feel wanted. Don’t get me...wrong it doesn’t feel very welcoming from the outside but once inside,it’s good. Just a decent good pub. And you can’t ask for more( apart from some pledge on the ornaments lol)More

We just walked in for a drink, saw the menu and ordered the food at the bar. No problem, we sat in the bar and ate at one of the tables there. As I said in the original report, the quality was superb.
