Perhaps it is London's best fish and chips, although that's hard to imagine, not that it was bad, but it also wasn't amazing. Perhaps the best in the neighbourhood? That said, the crushed mint peas were excellent! Pleasant and speedy service in a quaint pub. No complaints, but no rave review either.

Had 'the best fish n chips in london' after reading the proud boast on the board outside! If this is the best then london is in trouble! Tasteless fish with soggy skin that had been battered so poorly the inside had been obliterated! Left 3/4 of the dish, guy took the plate away without any question! Obviously not the 1st... More

Wow. How lucky we were, to pop in to The Old Shades. Great service by Joe, who greeted us with open arm. Large portions and good solid sandwitches! Very fair prices and flexible to "specials". Good humor and spirits. Loved it! We were 2 seniors, 2 adults and 2 children. Brilliant pub.

Quite by chance we ran in here for a much needed pit stop between museum visits. On arrival it was very busy and we squeezed on one small uncleared table for four of us. Took a while to get served at the bar. Then everything clicked into place, the table was cleared the one next to us became available we... More

My mother and I stopped in here for dinner after a day walking around the city. On the outside it is very nostalgic looking and on the inside it delivers the same and more. We had a pint of cider and a plate of fish and chips. This was definitely the most traditional fish and chips we ate the whole... More

Came here for a quick pint and lunch.. long wait for food and considering that it wasn't that busy I thought that this was not the best service ... many people getting there food orders before us despite us ordering well before... lovely place and location but service very poor...

We visited this nice pub for lunch on a Saturday. Considering its location close to Trafalgar Square, it was nice and quiet. We had booked a table for lunch, but there was no need as there were plenty of tables available. The sign outside says "the best fish and chips in London" ... my good lady wife says she can't... This place was suggested by some former work colleagues as convenient for Charing Cross Station and not too far from Victoria station. We had pre-booked a table for 6:30pm on a Thursday night, and the table was free when we arrived at 6:20. We stayed there until 8:20pm, then scattered to get our respective trains. Place was not too noisy,... More

Staying in Westminster

Neighbourhood Profile
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
