Pre cinema visit

Stopped in here as we parked outside for a cinema visit and wanted a quick snack before the film. Very friendly greeting and place wax already busy at 6 o’clock on a Friday night, always a good sign in my book. Really good kebabs and fish dish, nicely presented and good sized portions. Like that they bring a little dish of Turkish Delight with your bill, Only downside is it’s a cash only restaurant which could be a problem if you don’t know beforehand.

Good Turkish restaurant

Had an enjoyable business meal here at this very busy and popular restaurant on a Monday evening. Good solid and dependable Turkish cuisine. My only problem is that they wanted payment in cash only— no cards— which in this day and age is very strange but no doubt they have their own reasons which it would be wrong for me to speculate. Cannot understand the recent bad reviews. I would return and recommend this restaurant.

Would say this is average at best. The service is very good but the food wasn’t as tasty as what you would get elsewhere in a Turkish restaurant. No complimentary mezes, no soup on the menu etc

Repulsive with no regard for Covid 19 regulations

I’ve been here a couple of time’s before, it’s a small place and the food isn’t amazing just your normal Turkish place. Went here to eat yesterday and the experience was awful, the restaurant was freezing inside which was horrible, but the worst part was not a single staff member was wearing a mask, they touched out cutlery, straws with their hands instead of hanging them to us a napkin. I could feel the waiters breath on my face as he asked for my order which made me feel sick. He should be wearing a mask for customers protection. There’s no regard for the fact Covid 19 is still around. It’s disgusting. They also got our order wrong so we had to wait for new food and the waiter had the audacity to say are you sure you don’t want this? I want what I ordered thank you. There was only 4 tables in use and even then they got out order wrong. After the meal we both were sick through the night and had to go to the toilet several times. It’s vile that care isn’t being taken during a pandemic to think about hygiene standards and following the rules. Avoid this place if you want to limit your chances of catching Covid 19 or you don’t want to be up all night on the toilet. They also only take cash (I’ll leave you figure out why that might be) which again is unhygienic in these time’s. Throughly disgusting.

No regard for social distancing or covid

Went out with my elderly mother Saturday evening, the staff were helpful at getting her up the step and made no fuss about us being late for our reservation. The food and drinks was good, morning special and well priced for the area. However there was no regards to Covid management, apart from tables of max 6 people. There was no social distancing between staff and clients, none of the staff wore masks. People awaiting takeaway orders were walking in with no masks and nobody asked them to put. a mask on. It was very uncomfortable and both of us put our masks back on in between mouthfuls of food. Our Contact details weren’t taken either.

Left a bad taste in our mouths

Stopped by for a quick Friday evening bite, staff were attentive but restaurant was fairly quiet so they werent rushed off their feet. In fact, there were more staff than customers and they all seemed to hover around us which was uncomfortable whilst we were eating. I had the vegetable kebab and hubbie had a chicken dish. Food was good, however I didnt like the drink, apple juice as it was very sugary so left it. When it was time to pay, we were told it was cash only (strange as most other places during current climate have been card only)! Hubbie had to therefore go out into the rain to 2 cash machines as the first was broken. On returning, we were asked what was wrong with the juice, we said it wasnt nice and whether it could be taken off the bill (it was about £3) but they refused and said that everyone else liked it! For the sake of such a small amount and poor attitude, they lost a tip (which wouldve been more) and we will not return here! Theres more eateries at the other end of the road so no loss to us.

A Hand full of salad leaves for 4 people

I ordered a take away for 4, when we got home and unpacked it all we found 2 very small foil containers with a sorry excuse for salads for 4 people 😱 Also an awful starter plater for 4 people with 2 stuffed olive leaves for 4 to share and only what can be described as a mess in a box of cold starters. I am Turkish Cypriot and was ashamed to unpack this awful sad meal in front of my guests. This restaurant was good when it first opened but has got worse. Greed destroys businesses when will man learn. Plus I was charged £1.00 more than should of been as per their menu prices. Sad but true.

Waste of money

We used to go in here when it first opened a few years ago and it was friendly and good value for money. Something seems to have changed because the prices have been ramped up to ridiculous levels for kebabs and the staff are now rude and surly. There is no reason to pay £15 for a plate of bang-average food here when there are better Turkish restaurants in the vicinity - one just around the corner on the main road, in fact. When we’d finished our meal, we ordered two more beers and they immediately opened the main doors to let in the cold air and force us out. They then demanded we pay in cash, so we had to go outside to a cash point. Horrible place.

Avoid - takeaway

I can’t complain about the food however we had a full house and ordered a large takeaway order. We received the order with many main dishes missing and when we called to explain, the waiter clearly remembered what we ordered but refused to admit anything was missing. He was so rude and kept saying ‘you got what you paid for’ which obviously isn’t helpful and in this case not correct. The worst service we have experienced in a very long time and as the previous review states ‘left a bad taste in our mouth’! Would avoid at all costs.

As a local I visited this restaurant with my girlfriend the other week the chicken was amazing and thought I would come here often however the second time we went in for a take away, the guy at the front was rude and had a really nasty attitude which wasn't welcoming at all he made us feel uncomfortable and was rushing us by telling us to hurry up while giving me and my partner dirty looks he was nasty, such a unfriendly person. When we took our food home i couldn't of been more disappointed if the rudeness and Unprofessionalism wasn't enough, our food was so burnt and dry it wasn't edible and ended up going in the bin. £35 completely wasted i would never recommend this place at all, its horrible.

Excellent Turkish cuisine and friendly staff

The first time I have visited here with a friend who has eaten here before. We had not booked for lunch but were welcomed by friendly staff who showed us to a table. The menu is comprehensive and drinks list is good too. We choose a chicken kebab with salad and rice - a dish to Calcik arrived with some delicious bread with our wine, really good. The food was perfectly and freshly cooked and exceptional value. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch, we were not rushed and the everyone working here were friendly and very pleasant. Cannot wait to visit again, and so pleased to have found the Wood Oven. Thank you for an amazing meal!

Family meal time get togther

Worst resturant i have visted in a long time. When we arrived we was seated and staff gace us a menu and was on us straight away to order. Made us order our mains with our starter. Starters arrived also my sons main arrived at the same time too......weird. Hadn't even finshed our starters trying to plates away with food on them to give us our mains, ee didnt even have time to digest our starters and get a break. I cant eat rice for my own reason so i asked if i coukd have chips with my chicken shish was told no have to buy separately. I have never had to ever do this before and was quite shocked. Staff stood around staring at you alot, made you feel very uncomfortable. I.wouldnt mind was only 9 people in resturant but all was rushed to feed us and get us out, very poor service overall. Food was that great nothing special anything over priced. Only told once bill arrrived that they dont take card. Bank nesr resturant cash machine wasnt working so had to walk for ages to find a cash point. Website does not tell you that they dont take cards when booking they dont inform you.....all to avoid the tax man My advise to you avoid this resturant it really is a waste of money and just poor service from start to finsh!!!!

Lamb cutlet meal

I recently visited the Wood Oven in George Lane, South Woodford, for lunch and was severely disappointed. The food was under-flavoured and overpriced, in my opinion. I ordered some Hummus and bread for my starter, followed by lamb cutlets with bulgar pilau and a Pepsi. The bulgar seemed like one tablespoon, and I couldn’t taste any flavour in the lamb. I almost had a heart attack when the bill came, and I realised they were charging me £27, and the fact that they refused to accept a debit card for this transaction made matters worse. I couldn’t help thinking that the price was bad enough, and thinking that the tax wasn’t likely to be paid correctly made matters worse. This unsatisfied customer will not be returning!!

Just an amazing experience

The food was just simply amazing. Each dish cooked to perfection and exploding with flavour. The decor a perfect blend of wood and stone each complements the other perfectly and make you feel relaxed and comfortable. And finally for the staff you couldn't find a place with better service with the most welcoming smiles, especially April. All I can say is that this place is amazing

Tax avoidance asking for cash only

Food was really nice however when we asked for the bill they told us they don’t take card when we question the staff why they haven’t told us this before we ordered they than said there is a cash machine across the road to get cash . They made my husband along with other guests to get cash . There is clear tax avoidance going on in this establishment so I won’t be going back there again as it’s not ethical .
