Java Whiskers has garnered a reputation for its commendable service, with guests frequently lauding the knowledgeable and friendly staff. While service speed occasionally receives mixed reviews, the serene and enjoyable atmosphere created by the well-attended cats is a highlight for many visitors. The food receives a split response; some patrons savor the tasty dishes, whereas others find the options limited and the dining experience rushed. As for value, opinions are divided; some believe the cost is justified by the quality of care for the cats and the cuisine, while others feel the prices are steep considering the offerings.

The cats were mostly a bit sleepy (warm day) but lovely all the same. Three of us paid £39.99 each for afternoon tea with the cats. JW should rethink their menu. All presented very nicely but the one savoury item, a pastry, was gritty. All the other items were sickly sweet, apart from the scone, which was lovely. We had one cup of tea each and had to pay £3 each for extra cups, not even a pot of hot water to add to the teabags. It’s a good thing what JW are doing to rehome cats. Just sort the human food.

Booked a couple of months in advance for my daughter’s 12 year olds birthday so we were very excited. The food came late (which wouldn’t have been an issue at all, if the staff didn’t still expect us to adhere to the 55 minute slot we had). We literally had 10 mins to try and eat everything and then we were pretty much turfed out and offered our coffees ‘to go’. I understand there is a strict time slot for all but, for nearly 40 quid per head (4 of us) then if the food is delayed due to internal issues, we felt the staff should have at least tried to accommodate us for another 10 mins so we could at least finish our cake and coffee!! Such a shame as we really enjoyed meeting all the cats and it’s such a great cause so I didn’t want to mark it down but felt very upset by the way we were treated.

We spent a largely enjoyable 1hr 30 here. The entrance fee is a little bit on the pricey side but they have created a pleasant relaxing environment to enjoy some feline company and half decent food and drink. Most importantly the moggies look very well cared for and content in their home and if they've had enough of human company have an area they can escape to. The staff are all quite welcoming as well. I wish I could have taken Bailey home with me!

Went for my husband’s birthday who loves cats. Had to listen to what felt like a lecture on how to behave around the cats before going in (don’t climb on the furniture, don’t feed the cats human food, don’t disturb them if they don’t want to be disturbed etc ). Good for children, but felt was a bit unnecessary for 2 grown adults to listen to! Maybe just put a poster of the “House Rules” up for people to see before they go in? Sat down and the first thing my husband said was “it smells in here”. Lots of diffusers around the room we were in, cats didn’t come near us. Realised at the end of our visit that the bookcase we were sitting next to had hidden litter trays in the base, so no wonder the cats didn’t come near us!! Latte I ordered was ok, raspberry and white chocolate cookie was lovely, bit overpriced but as the money goes towards the cats didn’t mind so much, and it was a treat. There was a cat hair in my glass of water, so didn’t drink that, but I suppose that’s an occupational hazard in these sorts of places. Cafe was full, people crowding round the cats to try and stroke/ play with them which upset me a bit because we were told not to do that and people were obviously ignoring the rules but there was no enforcement of them. We had booked a 1 hour 25 min slot, and the staff kept checking to see when our time was up, so felt like they wanted to get rid of us. Overall, not the best experience, I actually apologised to my husband for booking it!! But what we did see of the cats they seemed to be well looked after so obviously the extra money charged is being spent well.

The staff, cafe and cats were all lovely. The food was fairly poor and very over priced. The issue is that being so booked up, the owners can charge stay they want and serve mass produced sub standard food. I wish I could recommend this place, but sadly I won't. I think a fair price for what we were served was around £15, rather than £30 each!

Thank you so much for your kind words about our staff and cats <3 The team appreciates your comments. And we really appreciate your feedback regarding our food. We are so sorry that it didn't match your expectations and will look into it. Thank you once again for helping us helping homeless cats, that is why we do this in the first place. Really wish that you would like to come back again sometime!

Our visit did not match expectations, mainly due to the attitude of the staff. The welcoming host was brusque and unobliging. Our pre purchase of tea was over £100 for four and he would not swap a complimentary hot drink for a cold one. The second staff member informed us of ‘The Rules’ with barely a welcome beforehand and, once inside insisted on sitting us right by another occupied table in an otherwise empty section. This showed no Covid awareness. She claimed the seats we wanted were ‘reserved’. Yet we ourselves had reserved! It was a similar sized space to the one she sat us in, just not on top of others. The third staff member, bringing our tea, pulled over the table from the ‘reserved’ area we’d asked for, to give us more space, making a mockery of the whole thing! Sadly our enjoyment of the cats, who were adorable and well looked after in calm, clean surroundings was diminished by all of this. Anyone booking to go there is going to be a serious cat lover, just like the staff. But the feeling was that we, as customers, were an annoyance and in the way. More customer service training needed!!!

Had a lovely time at Java Whiskers cafe. We booked online and were promptly seen to on arrival. The staff were all very friendly and informative. I did feel it was a little expensive for the time allocated to you, and the overall menu is pretty small. However, I must say the savoury seasonal bun I’d ordered was really nice. The place was made up of two small rooms, which you’re free to roam about in. I quite liked this as it made it feel intimate. It was just a great atmosphere being surrounded by other cat lovers. The choice of music was great too - very relaxing! Quite a few of the cats were sleeping (who doesn’t like to nap?!), but you could still pet them as they were lazing around on the furniture. But they sure did wake up when the staff kindly gave us treats to give them! I believe during our visit there were about 10 cats present. Overall, I enjoyed my time here and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a chill afternoon surrounded by amazing cats.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. I initially booked for a hour slot for just a drink but upgraded to an afternoon tea. Sadly, I wish I hadn’t. One gluten free afternoon tea and one regular. In my opinion both were slightly disappointing, especially the gluten free where the scone was inedible due to it being like a rock, Also, they served the gluten free afternoon tea on the same stand as the regular afternoon tea, with one tier having both a gf scone on and a regular scone, this isn’t great for people with allergies or coeliac disease like myself. The. Ars we obviously cute and the main attraction, however most of them were in the other room and asleep (can’t be helped I know). It was an experience to tick off the list for sure, just sadly not as we had expected.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us and giving your feedback. We are sorry to read that your visit to us was not 100% purrfect. We will look into our gluten-free assortment and try to make improvements. We are always looking for ways to make our cafe cozier, our guest's experiences better and our cat's as comfortable as we possibly can <3

We came as a birthday treat for my daughter, so had x4 afternoon teas which came to £200 for a 2 hour slot. The food was terribly bland, cakes had no flavour and we only had one hot drink each. Staff were kind and the cats were lovely but not worth the money.

Thought it would be a nice Christmas treat for the family to visit a cat cafe as we are all cat lovers! In the rain and darkness of Xmas Eve we got lost so arrived 10mins late. The lady behind the food counter seemed slightly surprised to see us and was brusque with our orders as she emphasised that the cafe was shutting in 50mins! The food was limited. When we entered the cat area it did have a strong smell of dried cat food but also of people's shoes (you had to take them off & I think someone had bad smelling feet)! The 5 cats we saw were mostly asleep and one black & white cat was roaming around and ended up jumping on top of our table trying to find food which was funny. Cats are always hungry! Most of the cats were being hogged by one couple in a corner so that's awkward if you wanted to go over there to pet them. Overall, I would say it's not worth the trip from Buckinghamshire for the money paid for entrance and food & drink. Better off at Costas!

Very disappointed with the visit over priced . Shocked having to pay £3 for a extra cup of tea, with two other friends . We’ve been to other Afternoon Teas, and over whelmed with free cups of tea or coffee . Disappointed too , no sandwiches with afternoon tea. Glad cats are re homed, nice to hear. Very over priced for what we received , best part of the afternoon tea was the jam pots. £40 well over priced.

I had high hopes having enjoyed other cat cafes including the Java Whiskers in Stockholm and definitely wasn't disappointed. The staff were all friendly and welcoming and the welfare of the cats was clearly paramount. Sure, it might work out more expensive that a visit to a 'regular' cafe but it's worth it for the experience, and you can clearly see where the money goes. Upon learning of the newly-opening Kitten Lounge downstairs booked in for another visit before we left London. On both trips, we had cakes and hot drinks and couldn't fault them, and were able to interact with the cats too. Some were more sociable than others, but it's the luck of the draw - no complaints whatsoever!

During planning my sister's Hen Do, we unfortunately were let down by another cat cafe who we had tried to book for afternoon tea for 10 people. Java Whiskers saved the day! Their booking service and customer service was excellent. Although there is no contact number, they responded quickly, kindly and with informed replies. Siobhan was especially helpful, thank you so much! They accommodated our large group booking and really helped us. The booking system online seemed effective however it was not updating quick enough when I was booking for 10. I expect that it would work better with a smaller group. Overall I was really impressed with the service before we arrived. On the day I think that service was affected by it being a Saturday and so much busier. The cafe is lovely and they were very professional and clearly had the cats' welfare at heart. I liked that it was a shoes off cafe though more pre-warning would have been useful. The afternoon was good, and they had lovely vegan options. Although I have paid less for a nicer quality afternoon tea, you are also supporting the cause and of course the cats. The cats seemed happy and the staff were knowledgeable about them all. As I said, the Saturday rush affected service on the day unfortunately. It took some time to take additional drinks orders and then even more time for them to arrive. We were also unsure if another booking were able to run over by 30 minutes when we were definitely on a strict time schedule for the two hours. I would visit again and I do recommend it. Perhaps additional staff on the Saturday would have helped solve the issues? Thank you though overall Java Whiskers for the assistance, support and excellent customer service overall. We really enjoyed the visit and seeing the cats, and celebrating my sister's Hen Do.

A friend and I came last Saturday for afternoon tea. The place is lovely, really clean and smart looking and the cats are clearly happy and well looked after. And the afternoon tea we had was really nice. My only gripe is that we had less than an hour, so felt like we were being rushed a bit. Especially as someone came over twice during that time to 'remind' us of how much time we had left. The afternoon tea is booked in advance so I don't know why they can't bring it out as soon as we arrived, rather than waiting 20 minutes, by which time we'd lost half of our time slot. I would return, if I could have longer to eat and not be rushed out with indigestion!

My wife, myself and 2 family members spent a most enjoyable 1 hour 25 minutes session (cost £25.99 per person with two other options: £17.99 & £32.99 for 55 mins & 1 hour 55 minutes respectively) this afternoon at Java Whiskers on Gt Portland Street. The cafe was opened 2 years ago replicating the successful model property in Stockholm. In that time over 200 rescue cats (average of 2 per week) have been adopted which is a most impressive track record. For our visit, we had to check in online and then place our drinks/food orders before receiving a short briefing (which included removing shoes and washing our hands) before entering the adjacent cat’s lounge. There were around a dozen residents and the majority were sleeping soundly. One exception - and my personal favourite - was Boris (who unfortunately has lost an eye but this has done little to stifle his exuberant personality. He was not only full of energy climbing on all the ledges around the 2 rooms but also happy to settle down in in guest’s (including mine!) laps. Despite his one eye, I will be surprised if he is not the next cat to be adopted. All in all, we all enjoyed our visit and recommend others to follow suit but book well in advance as it is a popular attraction with several groups turned away whilst we were awaiting our session with the cats!

Thank you so much for your lovely review! <3 Happy you got to see Boris show off. He is truly a charming fella! Working with living animals we can not always guarantee that they will be awake during a visit. On average, cats sleep for between 15-18 hours a day, a completely natural behaviour, and one which we hope they maintain during their time at the cafe. This is a sign of a content and comfortable animal, especially if they were sleeping out amongst the guests. I hope you took the opportunity and pet them while they were sleeping, our favorite thing to do at Java Whiskers! :D Happy you enjoyed your time and hope we see you again soon <3
