Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were lucky enough to go to Etta's restaurant on Friday evening and it was a total delight. The food is all delicious, highly recommend all the dishes we had: marinated tuna, spicy prawns, scallop salad and brown stew fish. The staff were so friendly and it's a lovely place to spend an evening! We will be back!

Are you sick of how sterile Brixton has become? Are you fed up of the bouje boring lack of authenticity Brixton now possess? Well you clearly haven’t been to Etta’s! My wife and I are both huge seafood fans and more importantly connoisseurs of the best vibes life can give.
Etta’s was perfect, the lobster Mac n cheese was BANGING…the brown stew was BANGING, Etta was AMAZING. Such good quality everything, food, service, price. Holistically everything was so on point that I can not fault at all. I think my wife might actually love me after taking her there, it was that good.
Go. Before the Hondo tower ruins everything.

This restaurant is so delicious.
We started with a seafood platter.
Good start to see what you could get for your mains as there was a pretty good selection on the platter. Lovely flavours.
Then I had seafood curry. It was well seasoned and tasted amazing.
My friends had Lobster and one of my friends had vegan meal (sweet potato pumpkin). Little mishap as the food had corriander in it. So Etta to no fault of her, just made my friend a new dish. Service with a smile.
What a Lovely lady.
Amazing expercience.
I am going back as there is a lobster with my name on it lol

The lady who was serving us was cheery, but really that was the only saving grace. The wine we wanted wasn't available, and when we ordered it the server made a comment that intimated that we were posh or considered ourselves upper class in some way for asking for the £20 Sauvignon Blanc. Not a great start. Then I ordered the fish and chips and again this was commented on 'why come here and order fish and chips'? Well don't put something on the menu if you're going to question customers for ordering! We arrived at about 2030 and we finally got our mains at around 2200. And my friend's food was inedible. Mine was just about edible. We thought it was potentially going to be bad when the seating was scatty and my chair was constantly being scraped by people opening the door but we decided to stick it out. We would have had a better time elsewhere.

Very welcoming. However, Rice and Peas lacked flavour - no spice nor thyme nor coconut milk. Also the curry and Akee and Saltfish lacked flavour and sadly Fish and Chip portions small and tasted as if from frozen. Uninteresting food. Hoped for more authentic Jamaican spice - disappointed. Also one member of party didn't receive his meal until everyone had nearly finished.

We were recommended this place for good fish and chips, after 40 mins of waiting we got frozen chips from iceland and two small chunks of battered cod. the worst fish and chips ever tasted. The waitress was TERRIBLE with a huge attitude on her shoulders, looked at us with distaste when ordering. don't ask what is in the vegetarian dish the answer will be 'Vegetable' and a stare. Don't bother with this place, bad service, bad food, bad attitude. and not cheap.

Well….service friendly….all fish disappointedly from frozen packets. Calamari, a bit rubbery with no discerning spice. Salt fish fritters, ok, not quite enough fish and a slight undercooked floury texture and taste. Neither came quite hot enough. Scallop with lime dressing, tiny portion, mainly leaves, a little avocado and tomato. Scallops the size of 1p pieces- shocking value at £13.50!
Not quite sure if it’s changed hands since previous reviewers or we ordered the poorer dishes? Certainly not somewhere we would revisit.

First time here and what a joy. Most portions aren't huge, but the food is delicious. I wanted to try a bit of everything so ordered the seafood platter, which is £26 with a glass of prosecco, not quite sure why but it does, and it was nice. The platter was great, and you get some ackee too and plantain. My wife and friend ordered the tuna and mussels which were both good but not huge portions. the mac and cheese were superb too.

If I could give it a higher rating I would! The food was even tastier than it sounded with extremely generous portions. The service and atmosphere was friendly and created a very homely environment, which made the food just that much better.

My wife and I were walking around the Brixton market looking for a lunch spot, when we had the pleasure of meeting the proprietor of this small but charming restaurant. Etta is a personable, engaging, inviting person, so we sat down and asked for some recommendations. She started us off with a homemade ginger beer that was true to its name - a bracing yet refreshing drink that got better with every sip. For our seafood dish, she suggested the seafood curry. It came with a lovely, fresh white fish, nice, large shrimp, tasty mussels, rice, some salad, and a delicious yellow sauce. Absolutely brilliant! We had come to Brixton for some Jerk Chicken, so we ordered it; even though Etta's is ostensibly a seafood restaurant. It was perfectly seasoned, home cooked, with a simple, lightly-dressed salad on the side. An absolute 10! I would come back to Etta's for the food, and also to chat with Etta again. If you're in Brixton, and looking for some excellent quality food, do yourself a favour and make a stop here!

We first found Etta’s Kitchen four years ago. Between the Ackee and Saltfish, Sorrel drinks and Salmon Ceviche we knew we had found a special place. Beyond the food, however, Etta is one of the most fabulous people we’ve met. She has a warmth that could heat an igloo in a blizzard. Visiting Brixton for the first time in four years today, we were worried the pandemic may have taken this beloved place but Etta was there with hugs to greet.
Today we had Soft Crab curry, Salmon Ceviche, Mac ‘n Cheese, lemonade, and rum punch. It is the finest meal we’ve had in ages and we have had many fine meals in those ages. The curry sauce was perfection. There was not a weak link - everything was as perfect as could be - even the lemonade was sublime. We cannot recommend Etta’s enough.
If there is a better restaurant in London, is hasn’t yet opened.

This is truly a gem in the middle of Brixton! My teenage son was scraping his plate. This is one of the few if not only seafood Jamaican restaurants specializing in seafood. It’s, fresh and tasty with just the right amount of fire. We ordered fish fritters, pepper shrimp and calamari for appetizers and it was ver tasty. Our main dishes included curry seafood and salt fish and ackeee and festival. We loved it all. It was so delicious the service was superb!

Fantastic food (and wine) in a really welcoming and layed back atmosphere. The chef recommended dishes according to our preferences. - the fish and seafood is freshly made and yet you don't wait too long to eat. Service was great. - thank you for a wonderful evening.

My friend and I needed a nice freshly cooked to order meal and a comfortable place to enjoy our meal...so we chose Etta's. The setting was great, staff friendly and courteous and the meal was cooked to perfection!!🥰 I had a Snapper decorated with colourful steamed vegetables and a bit of boiled green bananas and yellow yam. My friend had Jamaican Salt Mackerel Run down (rundung). Both meals were scrumptiously delicious. Great job Etta's Seafood Kitchen!!

Had a great night at Etta's. Kept the Carribean mood going after watching One Love at The Ritzy. The restaurant didn't let us down with great sea food and exotic flavours, not forgetting the rum punch! The whole vibe is more like entering a private house on the beach of one the islands and being looked after by friends - fab!
