Dined here in a group of about 15-20 having agreed to meet downstairs in the bar and then venture to the dining room upstairs. We pre ordered from the menu and this worked well althoiugh some of the party had to wait for their main courses but were kept informed by the staff and this wasn't a problem. The food was very nice indeed and whilst I rarely visit Central London I will certainly bear it in mind. The restaurant staff were very courteous and efficient. The bar staff were not quite up to that level but this may have been possibly due to workload. Note that the pub closes at 5pm on Sunday so book lunch early. Overall a good place to meet friends and good food. A 12% service charge is added to your bill which I considered fair enough.

I could write a review just about the stylish décor or superbly tasty food (OMG, I am not a salad guy but, boy, I would have the Grilled Chicory salad any day) or the attentive service (the host offered to give me an umbrella when I left with the rain coming down). But what is exceptional is their private dining area. With the new normal of remote working, our company has decided to not even have physical offices. Instead, we use the money saved on rent, etc. to meet up at a nice place in London periodically. All of the even modest hotels in Fitzrovia area (most convenient for most attendees) wanted to charge £500 for a boring, fluorescent lit conference room without windows (and then a lot extra for any extra refreshments). I figured there must be something better and stumbled upon Lady Ottline. Lady Ottline offers a very comfortable and attractive private dining room complete with projector and retractable screen as well as strong wifi. And they don’t charge anything for it. They only require that you have a minimum spend of £50 per person. So for our 5 people meeting, the cost of the day was half the hotel day rate AND we got a sumptuous, gourmet lunch accompanied by a generous rounds of pints through the afternoon. We have now dubbed Lady Ottoline our official satellite London “office”.

I travel to London a few times a year for work, and my trips are never complete without a visit to The Lady Ottoline. I cannot say enough good things about it. It is tucked into a residential neighborhood in Bloomsbury so it has a feel of a place that only locals visit. It is cozy and warm and the upstairs dining room serves truly gourmet food, with a menu that varies. While the food is high end, the vibe is very casual and friendly and fun. I highly recommend it.

The meal was at best average but the service was rude and slow. We arrived at 7.30 and went straight to the table. Desert arrived at 10.45pm and as we were served they were closing in 10 minutes. Three of the team had to leave for trains before the main course. Downstairs looked busy and fun, don't go for the food or service.

I booked this place for an old-friends reunion, friends travelling into London from different parts of the uk. I found it on “Time Out - London Best Gastro pubs” and it looked great. The pub was lovely and the welcome and the service were excellent; we were really well looked after by the staff and we ended up staying there for the entire afternoon. We were the only ones in the restaurant upstairs so it did lack a bit of atmosphere but allowed us the freedom of space and once we moved downstairs after eating, the atmosphere there was lovely, nice and spacious for our big group and a nice bustle as the afternoon went on. I was unfortunately very disappointed with the food which was a real shame. The starters were nice but the steak and burgers were very over cooked and the fish and chips weren’t particularly well received either. This is not something I thought I needed to be concerned about in a reputable and recommended ‘Gastro pub’. Like I say, a shame as the place itself was lovely, and we did have a lovely afternoon but wanted to feedback on the food.

Amazing food and friendly service: we stumbled on this place on our way to the Dickens museum. What a great find! We ordered chicken which was moist and delicious along with a vegetable Wellington. Both dishes came with perfectly cooked vegetables (I got so used to overcooked veggies in England that getting vegetables made just right was a pleasant surprise- thank you for that!), fried potatoes, and an AMAZING YORKSHIRE PUDDING (this was so good).

Very disappointing from start to finish! Waitress was polite and did the best she could with what she had to work with. Firstly drinks - mojito which mainly consisted of ice and very little drink. Did ask for a replacement, not much better! Starters were mediocre, mains were terrible - 2 burgers and they were so over cooked and tasteless. Should have complained but by this point we just wanted to get out. Not a place for food, probably a great destination after a couple of drinks for a sing along but definitely not a place to eat……

Great food lovely pub. Sadly we went on a night they were full of Xmas Office parties… couldn’t have a table in the upstairs dining room (private party & we had been warned), so table in downstairs pub full of drunken revellers in Xmas jumpers. Music was a bit loud, but service charming & food really excellent (warning, poached pear listed as GF but came with a crumb… they should take food intolerances more seriously), wasn’t charged for wrong order (another pud), and would definitely return, on a quieter night!

We arranged a celebration lunch for 10 people and had a simply fantastic time. The food was exceptional - the scotch eggs and steak were to die for. Friendly and attentive service with great ales all served in a homely environment. Thank you to all the team at The Lady Ottoline for looking after us, we are definitely coming back !

I've organised our work Christmas Lunch for around 13 people. I am so impressed and we have had such an amazing time. The man serving us was immaculate, he was very attentive, very funny and made the atmosphere in the dining room amazing. The table and the room were beautifully decorated and our team was so satisfied and happy. The food was so tasty and beautifully presented. Thank you.

Not sure what is going on here but we booked a table online for 4pm today so that we could meet up with a friend. She was making a special journey to meet us. Bank details were required for the booking, which was then was confirmed. Luckily we walked past around lunchtime and noticed it was closed. We tried to call on the phone but there was no answer. We’ve therefore cancelled online and had a confirmation of that … we are now trying to book somewhere else and because of the short notice we are struggling to find somewhere. This is the second time the Lady Ottoline has messed up a booking for us … last chance I’m afraid. Such a shame. It used to be great

Really nice meal here. Great either downstairs for a pint or in the upstairs dining room. Service was friendly and efficient and the food (right from starters to desserts) was delicious. Will definitely come back

Went to the Lady Ottoline for a client lunch yesterday. The pub is tucked away from the main routes in the area and is not widely known about so a great place for a quiet chat. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the table service was attentive but not overly so. The house red wine was excellent and my colleagues enjoyed their ales. The menu was simple with excellent choices. We enjoyed the home made pies. Definitely worth a visit.

Have thought about eating here but made first visit in June. The Lady Ottoline restaurant is above the pub on a quiet corner. Friendly welcome. Just two of us amid two large parties but we were never waiting or rushed. Nice menu. Loved the Scottish salmon scotch egg. Chicken liver parfait was a little wan. Chicken Kiev was nice. Lively Tuesday night. Warm London night outside but “comfortable.”

Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
