Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We always enjoy a visit to The Delaunay. Staff are friendly, dishes are served to a high standard (quality sausages from the Austro-Germanic world, including irresistible specialities such as the cheese-stuffed Berner Würstel) but also more prosaic treats like fries (punctiliously fried and tasty). I...also very much liked the sauerkraut, which always has such a salubrious quality. This is also an attractive restaurant with a strong sense of place. Complete with an expansive wine list and unusual cocktails, The Delaunay an acceptable, indeed recommendable, spot for dining in the centre of the capital.More

I’ve eaten at The Delaney several times and it’s always been good, but not on this occasion. My companion’s avocado was rock hard and had to be sent back. My green salad was just a whole iceberg lettuce and the weiner schnitzel had the texture...and taste of cardboard. I had to ask for another knife as the first one was blunt, but the replacement wasn’t much better. The dish was very poor. My Dorset crab starter was good, but the main at £35.00 was unacceptable. Such a pity.More

Smart surroundings, decent food and joined-up, highly professional, friendly service right from the get-go - from the doorman, the cloakroom, the reception to the waiters, they know just how to make everyone feel welcome. We had the three course prix fixe, all of which was...delicious, would particularly recommend the seared mackerel with pickled courgettes which was a very good combination, and the Bavarian chocolate mousse.More

Lovely atmosphere and loved the food too. I went with a German/Austrian colleague who said these were the best Shnitchzel and Socherkate that she had tasted in London! I am a vegetarian and it was so welcoming to see they had an aubergine schnitzel for...me, it was super tasty and a very good size. We ordered four desserts including as ice cream which as simple as it sounds, was absolutely delicious! My only draw back was the service was a little slow. I had to ask for the bill and after 15mins, no one came to take payment which was a little embarrassing in a business setting so went to go pay at the reception counter after saying bye to everyone who had to leave asap.More

We had a long breakfast here today. The service—provided by Alexandra—was exceptional. This is the place for a traditional English breakfast. Everything is done well from the silver teapot and toast rack, to the hot chocolate that comes with little rolls of chocolate to complement...the rich luxurious drink. I’m fussy about my Full English and this, while not the most inexpensive one around, delivers on every note. Keep it up!More

Fairly unimpressed overall. We did the set pre-theatre menu and I ordered salmon for starter which was nice but nothing particularly special. I then had chicken spatchcock for the main which wasn't particularly flavourful and had to order an extra side as didn't come with...anything. I think I would describe this place as 'style over substance' and won't be rushing back.More

In the heart of the hustle & bustle that is the London vibe at its most potent, this place is an oasis of style, poise and taste - literal and metaphorical. On paper, this is a ‘posh’ restaurant but the ambience belies a certain informality....Our party was an eclectic mix of workers and non, ‘dressed’ and ‘less so…’ and nobody batted an eyelid. Single diners hovering over their paper, couples heading for the theatre, business catch-ups and friends socialising…; everyone has their place. The menu is tempting and often takes a ‘basic’ dish and tarts it up ! The haddock goujons for example, were delicious - plump & tasty & plentiful - but it was the minted pea mash that stole the show ! An altogether satisfying experience ; reasonably priced and suitably tasty !More

I love the interior design of the Delaunay, it's sophisticated and understated. It's also a great location, especially for theatre-goers. The food is delicious. Fabulous quality and perfectly cooked. The duck, in particular, is amazing. The non alcohol cocktails are lovely, and they have the...nicest house red I've ever tasted. Overall the staff are excellent, however, we did find that after our main course was brought out the attentiveness of the waiters servicing our table dropped. We had to find people three times to ask for drinks and nobody asked if we wanted dessert - we had to beckon over one of the other waiters. It wasn't particularly busy at this point either, most of the tables had gone on to their theatre bookings. I do love it here though. I'll be backMore

Another very pleasant visit to this fine restaurant. My partner had a vegetarian tart that wasn’t really as described, this was acknowledged by manager quickly put right and reduced most of her bill! My meal was lovely and we will return!

My sons booked a private room at the Delaunay for a lunch to celebrate my 80th birthday. My wife and four grandchildren were also with us – so a party of ten. From start to finish it was superb – the service, the ambience and...the food were all handled with tact, professionalism and warmth. Just to pick up some of the major points. The staff managed the needs of the young children tactfully and provided food and drinks to meet their needs – they balanced and synchronised this brilliantly while continuing to serve the adults. Moreover, the restaurant altered the menu to meet our wishes without any quibbling or argument – for example, the menu had Rösti with fried eggs. They substituted this for poached eggs without any problems. The food was brilliantly cooked, and the service (by Alexandra) could not be faulted. Moreover, we were NOT treated to some long and unnecessary theatre by any of the staff; nobody spent time extolling a certain type of Korean black radish grown in Carmarthenshire hydroponically on a mixture of Latvian peat and coconut fibre and harvested at 5 in the morning to catch the early droplets of dew. We left after three hours feeling that we had a wonderful day – the experience could not be faulted and I look forward to going to the Delaunay again as soon as possibleMore

I enjoyed a last minute, late evening dinner by myself on Saturday night at The Delaunay, on the edge of Covent Garden. Seated with a terrific view of the beautiful and busy Grand Cafe-style dining room, attended to right away by the waitstaff, I selected...the Dawn Patrol cocktail to start my night, their delicious interpretation of the Expresso Martini. Generous in portion, expertly mixed, a boozy treat. The generous menu afforded many tantalizing options for my dining consideration but I chose to start with the King Prawn & Avocado Cocktail, a creamy, savoury salad served in an ice-cold bowl. Filled with generous chunks of avocado, vegetables, and meaty shrimp, it was an indulgent start to dinner. I chose for my main the Chicken Schnitzel, a massive pounded flat breast fried golden with a light crispy coating, served with a thick slice of lemon to squeeze on top. It came with a tasty lingonberry compote for the perfect sweet and savoury bite. I rounded out dinner with two sides, a green leaf salad and buttered herby baby potatoes. Both excellent in their simplicity and very satisfying. Despite an elaborate selection of dessert strudels, crumbles, cakes and ice creams, I saved those treats for another visit! Whether your dining solo and looking for a people watching experience to fill out your evening or a group dining destination to indulge your merry party, you cannot beat the great food, wonderful ambiance and on-point service at The Delaunay.More

My friend is a regular and recommended this restaurant for lunch. The venue is stunning, art deco, with attentive waiting staff. I had the chicken schnitzel sandwich - big mistake. The bun was low quality, supermarket packet standard bap. The chicken schnitzel was a sorry...state. Wafer thin and overcooked and dry around the edges. Completely tasteless. I had to have pudding as still starving after leaving the dried bits of chicken and the processed bap. The apple strudel was ok. All in all a big disappointment with a bill to pay of £145 for 2. Will not be back or recommend.More

The food was very good and it was a very busy place so clearly popular. Service wasn’t gracious hospitality. We finally were able to get one of the waiters to smile at dessert.
