This was our first (and sadly our last) time visiting the Tudor Barn. First impressions were not good. I called to say we were stuck in traffic and was met with a frosty reception. After I repeatedly apologised for our delay I was told that they would hold the table for 15 mins but that we must be out by 14.45 as they needed to prepare the table for the 3pm guests ( not sure why this would take 15 mins? As there are no tablecloths or special table settings) . The waiting staff were friendly, however service was a little slow. Food was ok - not the worst roast I've had, but certainly not the best. Not impressed that there was not much more than a spoonful of gravy on our dinners and so had to pay an extra £2 for more gravy!!! And £10 for a glass of Pimms!!! Ridiculous! They also forgot the birthday brownies, though the server was genuinely very apologetic about this so we took them 'to go'. Overall what was supposed to be a special family lunch was very underwhelming. Total bill for 5 drinks, 5 starters and 5 mains £191. We chose not to have desserts. We won't be back.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I have spoken with the staff member who took your call, I note you was stuck in traffic and the member of staff explained we can hold tables for 15 minutes and that we require 15 minutes to relay tables this is for cleaning as well to which you was happy with. Our Sunday Roast is extremely popular and our pricing aligns with other businesses within the local area. I have passed on your feedback to both the kitchen and restaurant team. I apologise that the birthday brownies were missed and I am glad you was able to take these home with you. It is a shame that you would not like to return to us again in the future but we take on all of your feedback. Kindest regards, Tudor Barn Team

Dined here for Sunday lunch recently. Having lived nearby for many years, this was my first time here. The venue is an impressive looking Tudor Barn set in grounds/gardens. Good for a walk after your meal. We were greeted with a friendly smile at the entrance and shown to our table straight away. Immediately we liked the atmosphere, not too noisy, just the sound of couples and families enjoying their Sunday lunch. We opted to share Camembert for starters and having seen good reviews on the Meat platter (sharing) decided on that. Drinks were ordered and came up quickly. The starter and main were delicious, good size portions too. Only thing, was the Pork was missing and Chicken breats/thighs substituted. Not really a major problem but we weren't advised before hand and it wasn't mentioned. As I mentioned earlier the portions were of a good size, the vegetables and roast potatoes were, apart from the roasted parsnip, which was 'stringy' which it often is. After we finished our starter, the waitress asked if we'd like to move to a larger table, which had become available. Though we were happy with our table, it would have been bit cramped when our main was served. We didn't the ladies name but that was great customer service. It is a little bit more expensive than a Pub Sunday Roast but we thought it was well worth it. I'd recommend it and we'll be back.

I honestly don’t know where to start with our review! We have just had our wedding at Tudor barn and it was truly the best day of our lives! Firstly, would like to thank Suzie who was honestly absolutely AMAZING and really helped my stay calm over our wedding planning! She was always happy to help! Really listened to exactly what we wanted and offered some amazing advice! I was actually extremely shocked at some of the comments made about her because from start to finish she has always been super helpful and just genuinely lovely! All of the staff at Tudor barn was extremely friendly with our guests, so professional and had quick service the whole day! A big thank you to the chef’s as the food was incredible and got lots of good comments about the buffet. We did decide to use the recommended suppliers and we are so happy we did! Staar and chic did an absolutely amazing job! Everything was very well communicated and we had exactly what we asked for! I’d like to mention we made a change to our entertainment a few weeks before and staar was more than happy to help! The barn and the grounds are absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t recommend a more magical place to get married! Again thank you Suzie and everyone at Tudor barn for making our day one we will never forget! We honestly would have not changed a thing! ❤️

Avoid at all cost We booked as a family on Sunday 2 adults 2 children. We arrived 5 mins late due to traffic and then was left standing at the door while the woman discussed with the man about our booking whispering something then reluctantly took us to the table. We were left sitting there for 20 mins before being offered drinks and which we put our food order in at the same time asking for some bread and butter to come straight away to keep the kids quiet as they were hungry. No a single smile was amongst the staff we was stuck in the corner and forgotten about. After a while and no bread being brought up I went and asked if they had colouring pencils to distract the kids. They told me to sit down and would bring them over. The toast came up in which I had already said no to toast and just some bread when they asked. 1hr in our food finally was brought over but with the colouring pencils which we had been waiting 40 mins for. They was brought over at the time in which we then wanted the kids to eat their food. When they placed the food down we was told we needed to be gone in 20 mins for another sitting. In which we replied we are not rushing it wasn’t our fault the food took so long we hadn’t even ordered started and just ordered a basic roast dinner. They was persistent that we had to be gone in 20mins so the icecream we had promised the kids if they ate their dinner was a no go as we didn’t have time which then made the kids upset. To top it off I went to put pepper on my dinner and the whole pot of pepper corns went over my dinner so was unable to eat most of it after trying to scrape them off. This is the 2nd time we have been here and the first time we was unhappy but thought we would give the benefit of the doubt but 2 times 6 months apart and we was even more disappointed. They are just so rude, not accommodating and make you feel not wanted as soon as walking in then have the audacity to put a service charge on the bill Save your money there are so many better places who are welcoming and offered a better roast where the meat isn’t tasteless and dry

Dear Molly Rose Thank you for your review. I just wanted to clarify a few points so that that facts are clear to both parties: 1. Your booking was for 2 people at 2.15pm however when you arrived at 2.43pm you were a party of 4 and were 28 minutes late. We had, by this time, already cancelled your booking, and so when you did arrive the staff at the door were struggling to find a table to seat you on as we were fully booked. This was the reason why there was a delay seating you. 2. On seating your order was taken straight away - you were clearly informed that we do not do bread and butter but the young server said that she would get you some toasted focaccia instead, to which you replied that it would be fine. As with any other busy restaurant, food ordered is not instant and is prepared in the order in which the tickets are put through hence the reason why there was a wait on the bread. 3. When you were presented with the coloring pencils your partner told the restaurant manager that it was, and I quote, too f****** late now, just take them away. To which she replied that she would not tolerate being sworn at but allowed you to stay for the sake of the young children you had with you. 4. You was informed at 3.45pm that your table would be required back by 4.15pm as we had another party booked on the table which is our normal half an hour warning. Your partner was again very rude to the young server and told her that you would be leaving when you wanted to. I can appreciate that the children were hungry and arriving late was stressful for you and your partner, however that is no excuse for swearing and shouting at our staff. We accommodated your booking even though you turned up after our 15-minute grace period and for a table of 4 rather than 2. We also received complaints from other customers on the surrounding tables regarding your behavior, and the way that your partner addressed the staff. Given the above we politely request that you do not attend Tudor Barn Eltham again

I booked an afternoon tea for my mother who is 88, my aunt,92, who has dementia and my cousin in order to get my mother and aunt, together. My aunt had a fall and damaged her back on the morning of th event. I called and left a message as the department did not open to 10am. I then called at 10.25 to ensure the message had been received. I was told I would be charged full price as there was a 24 hour cancellation policy. The person I spoke to did not show any empathy and told me the food would need to be thrown away. Very disappointed and I will not rebook at this venue

Dear Mrs Ashenden, I am sorry to hear that your aunt had a fall which resulted in you not being able to attend the afternoon tea which was booked with us. I have spoken to the member of staff who answered your call and they confirmed that you were informed that the deposit (not the full price) would have to be charged to cover the cost of the food that had already been ordered and prepared, as your booking was cancelled less than two hours prior to your arrival time. This is clearly stated on our terms and conditions of booking and is normal practice in many restaurants now. It was also suggested that you could have had the afternoon tea as a take away but you refused this option so the food was ultimately was thrown away as we do not cater for afternoon teas if they are not pre booked with us. Once again I am very sorry that you were not able to attend and hope that your aunt makes a full recovery.

Attended wedding here recently The grounds and park lovely the venue okay It was an extremely hot day no air conditioning and limited number of fans Asked for some iced water for table told can only be given out by glass unable to have a jug!! The servers did not really want to be there unfriendly and unwelcoming the exception were the bar staff. The food served was mediocre would definitely not recommend as a wedding venue. Setting up that evening before the wedding finished for next days wedding. Lastly the restrooms Two male two female toilets, were not replenished throughout the day despite the constant use. Generally you had to queue to use given the large number of wedding attendees. This is an old venue may be suitable for small numbers but certainly did not deliver to a large number of guests.

Tucked away in the squirrel-populated gardens of Eltham is the Tudor Barn, a lovely little pub with a wonderful atmosphere and even better food. We arrived at about 2pm on Saturday and was seated immediately. Throughout our stay the waiters and waitresses were constantly checking in with us and making sure everything was OK. The food was a little bit pricey, but considering the quality of the meal I would say it's well worth it. All in all it was a lovely time, and I would certainly reccomend it to those curious. Weather permitting I advise you to sit outside and watch the many, many squirrels go by.

I have eaten here several times over the years (never my choice I hasten to add) and every visit has been disappointing. Service is slow (often despite not being busy) and the food is at best "mediocre pub grub". The last visit was the last straw. After a 45 minute wait in a near empty restaurant, A luke-warm burger served on a very narrow chopping board resulted in juice dripping everywhere - table, lap (no napkins provided), and a steak that looked like thin offcuts piled on a plate. Waitress shrugged off our complaint and neglected to clear the table of empty glasses. One bad experience I could give the benefit of the doubt but half a dozen? No thank you, not again.

Dear Charlotte Thank you for your honest review and making us aware of your recent visit. I am hugely disappointed to note that you have been repeatedly disappointed with our food and service throughout the years; your comments about the boards that we serve the burgers on have been taken on board and we agree that they are too small and so have changed the way we now serve them. We take all feedback as a gift and constantly use it to train staff and tweak the way we do things so that we grow as a company and strive to excel our customers expectations. I really do hope that you come back to visit us again in the future and I would be more than happy to offer you a complimentary meal on me so that you can let me know how we have improved. I have sent you a private message on TA with further details on how you can book this in with me.

I visited this restaurant with friends and family and we were so looking forward to this as our experience before the pandemic was excellent. Unfortunately the staff are miserable and untrained. Our waiter at the start would have quite clearly preferred to have been somewhere else. He he dismissive and didn't smile. A smile goes a long way (FYI!). Food was served hot and tasted great. Just a shame we had to wait for staff to bring over cutlery on both courses. It became slightly annoying having to ask so much for basic necessities when eating out. After receiving the bill, we asked our original.waiter (in the black and white Nike trainers) to pay with cash and card. We waited ages for the card machine, for him to basically throw it at my friend and not say anything. We were expecting change, and by this point did not want to leave the waiter any tip at all. We sat waiting, and after 10 mins the same waiter come over with his hand in his pocket and asked my husband if he wanted the change back (!!!!) when he said yes, the waiter took his hand out of his pocket and gave the change to my husband. I'm actually shocked! Will not be going back unfortunately

My wife was given a cream tea gift for two for her birthday. Not only was this a great idea, this was a great venue, too. There was a lovely selection of sandwiches with one of each type for each of us, two scones each and several cakes. There was also a plentiful supply of tea and coffee. All the food was fresh and tasted delicious. The service could not be faulted and everywhere was clean. I'd recommend Tudor Barn for anyone looking to have an afternoon tea.

Having booked the royal afternoon tea for the platinum jubilee, we expected something special. The tables were not really decorated and we had to wait for more than 20 minutes to even get some tea which was very thin. Some guests didn’t even receive tea until an hour after the start time. We had to wait for a good hour to get our etagere of scones, sandwiches and cakes. The selection provided was nothing special. The sandwiches were dry and the scones tasted like they were store bought and heated up for too long. They were understaffed and the staff working the event were inexperienced and couldn’t care less. All in all a dreadful experience. Do not book if you want anything special.

Unfortunately not a place I would rush back to The constant banging from the blonde ponytailed guy on the coffee machine was enough to put you off, it sounded as though you were on a building site constantly Only one member of staff smiled during our lunch , it appeared that the staff didn't want to be there, just pick up their pay cheque The Menu was nothing to shout about , and expensive for what you get The Terrine starter was very dry and not the best to be served , lacking taste . Crab starter was pleasant, Fish and chips, very greasy , Steak not greatest of cuts and not cooked to the way requested, salmon ok, presentation alot to be desired , looked very much of an after thought and thrown on the plate Coffee and latte very bitter, not pleasant at all , better coffee at motorway services. All in all the staff let the team down , the food wasn't great Would I recommend to friends.......No Would I revisit ........ No........unless things changed

Dear Amanda, Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent visit to Tudor Barn Eltham. You are aware that we have spoken to you directly about this and have already given you a partial refund for the guests who were affected; running out of vegetables is completely unacceptable and there is no excuse as to why this happened. Feedback from guests is always taken as a gift and we have now put in place procedures to ensure that this never happens again. In regards to the DJ, I have received no other complaints about the music and can confirmed that the DJ played standard party songs together with Christmas songs. I am sorry that you did not enjoy the music but this could simply be a case of personal choice. As per Hayley's review below (who we can only assume was also a member of your party) our security team acted in accordance with company policy, ensuring that both customers and staff are kept safe and away from areas in the building which are not for public access. Again we have not received any other complaints about our security team and so we have put this down to a one off experience with members within your group, which have already been addressed in a separate review.

Having attended the Tudor Barn as a wedding guest on Monday I feel like I want to leave an honest review for prospective customers. Upon arriving we were greeted quite rudely by a (senior) member of staff and told to wait upstairs 1 hour prior to the bride arriving. We were told that it was illegal to serve drinks before the ceremony or consume else where. I have never heard of this before? The registrar was situated very badly throughout the ceremony. My sister had to keep turning away from her new husband to hear what the registrar was saying. The serving of the food was abrupt and not up to wedding standards. The food was dry and portion sizes were inadequate. 1 bowl of potatoes, 1 small bowl of coleslaw and one small bowl of salad to be shared amongst a table of 10 guests. My sister the bride had to ask for more food for herself and her new husband! Buffet food was out for 2 hours and then cleared and thrown away. When questioned why this was happening the groom was told that he needs to read his contract! My understanding was that food is only allowed out for 3 hours (as a member of staff mentioned to the groom) but it had only been 2 hours? Surely the best practice would be for guests to be notified before the food was thrown away. Such a waste! Staff took unopened wine that had been purchased by the wedding couple. When the staff member was questioned they denied it. There is no excuse for this behaviour when it had been witnessed. You have a lovely venue which has the ability to become superb if you work on a few things. I would hire a competent wedding planner to see the day through. They would then pick up on portion sizes, food options, competent trustworthy staff and food wastage issues before there was need for guests to write reviews.

Dear Wedding Guest Thank you for your honest review in regards to your sister wedding which took place at Tudor Barn Eltham on Monday. I am very sorry if you felt that the day was not run as you would have expected, however the details of the day, including times, were discussed and agreed with our clients prior to the day so I do not believe that we, as a venue, have done anything wrong. It is a legal requirement of the Registrar General License Act 1970 that alcohol cannot be served to any member of the wedding party one hour prior to the time of the ceremony – you are of course more than welcome to read further on this at https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1970/34/contents. It was unfortunately that many of the guests arrived more than one hour earlier than the planned arrival time and therefore had to wait until the ceremony had finished before we were able to serve them any drinks. The UK Food Standards Agency recommends that food left in ambient temperatures for more than two hours needs to be discarded and so this is what we, as a company, adhere to. Our clients are clearly told this as part of the wedding planning process and the time the buffet would be cleared is clearly indicated on all paperwork. This is standard practice for our company. I can also confirm that the DJ made an announcement 15 minutes before the food was cleared as we do for all weddings. Due to GDPA, I am not at liberty to discuss the finer details of the wedding, however I can confirm that the wedding was delivered as per our clients instructions and we have no reason to believe that our staff on the day failed to deliver the wedding or attend their duties as we would expect as a company.

First Visit We had booked a table for the sloted time and arrived on time. When we arrived the tills were down, and no orders could be taken. We were shown to our seat, and left to our own devisees. Eventually we were told we could order a drink, and food. After we had our food my colleague asked about what cocktails there were to drink and how much. We then asked how much a pink gin was, and was told £9:00. We were quite shocked at this price and said well we may as well have a pink gin then. I questioned the price of the gin to be told that “Oh that’s a double” I asked the member of staff that we never asked for a double, and how much is a single £4:00 something… along with “I assumed you wanted a double” well, its very wrong to assume when you could be driving, or on a budget. The bill came and it was £160:00 there were 4 of us and thought this was a little high. On looking at the bill we have been overcharged with 1 bottle of merlot 1 pint peroni 1 orange gin and lemonade = over charged by £30:00 or so. There was no heartfelt apology to this and no reason why it happens. Second Visit Like the first visit I ordered seating within the gazebo. On arrival we were told no seating inside, but outside. We were placed on a table with 6 chairs, and as there were only 2 of us I asked to be moved. Does this not make sense? When you have already told us that you are full, and that there are not enough tables! Why would you put 2 people on a 6 seat table? Anyway, there was a bit of coming and going in order to see if my original email was correct or that I had picked the correct seating arrangements. I assured the member of staff (who may have been acting manager) that I did. The young bar staff came up to see what drink we wanted. I was asking about a wine that I had had on visit one, and I got “not sure what that was love, but have you made your mind up love as to what wine you want love” now, after having to sit outside, and already letting visit one go I decided NO enough was enough and we left. We actually left to go the Beer & Barrell round the corner – which may I add and for anyone reading this is a massive success, the food, the drink, the staff are all very professional. I tried to sort out the problems at the Barn on both occasions, but manager was not there. However, I do now that from previous write ups that she clearly has an answer for everything, and that it is never the Barn’s thought. I just think that in the days when people can be very picky where they eat, and what they get for their money, it may be a good idea to go that extra mile, and if you are charging £33:00 for a bottle or prosecco in a back street pub that clearly only carries the name and grounds its in then follow it with professionalism at all times.
