About
Gandhis was the very first Indian restaurant on Kennington Road opening its doors in 1982, a pioneer of Indian cuisine and has since proudly been owned and run by the same family. The philosophy was simple then and still is today; to serve food prepared in the best Indian traditions from a menu that reflects the great regional diversity of Indian cuisine. The chefs at Gandhis take pride to have maintained a classic Indian menu based on the most traditional recipes from India, whilst understanding the contemporary demands of finely tuned tastes of the 21st century. At Gandhis our chefs have always been passionate about ingredients, understanding that the best flavours can only be achieved from the freshest ingredients and spices. Therefore the ethos is simple; at Gandhis only the finest ingredients come in and the spices are freshly ground on a daily basis. Since opening in 1982, Gandhis has built up a loyal following in the local community and built a reputation for exceptional service and mouth-watering food. Over the past 30+ years Gandhis has also catered for numerous distinguished guests, including celebrities, television personalities and situated a mile from The House of Commons Gandhis has been a firm favourite with politicians. Our first-class customer service, comfortable and modern décor create the unrivalled ambiance for the perfect Indian dining experience without being pretentious, ensuring that all have the opportunity to enjoy the Gandhis experience.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had another fantastic takeaway meal from Gandhi’s (during lockdown, of course). All vegetarian- chana, mutter paneer, brinjal and cauliflower. All distinctive tastes and excellently cooked. The cauliflower was perfect (NOT overcooked). Delivery was spot on time (as per the ChefInline app) and delivered by a masked delivery person at a distance.
It’s our local. And it’s a great restaurant. It’s not overpriced. We’re looking forward to being able to eat in again.

The mains were spicy and delicious. The mango lassi were nice but not the best We have had. The garlic naan smeld nice but had no garlic taste at all. The waiters were nice and swift, and they treated the six of us (2 adults and 4 kids) nicely despite the boys being a little lively.

Visited Gandhi’s with my mother and we were both absolutely loved it here. Restaurant was lovely and food brilliant, and reasonably priced! Definitely will be coming back and can see why it’s been a local favourite for so long.

Arrived at 7.15pm, restaurant was empty and cold. More people started arriving at 7.30pm. Waiters not very welcome, obviously didn’t want to be there, very miserable.
Quite a limited menu. Ordered paneer starters, very bland and plain. Tandoori chicken leg starter was greasy and grey.
Mains-very tasteless and unseasoned. Peshwari naan was lovely though. Onions in chutney tray were in big rings rather than small bits, makes all the difference, no one like to chew on half an onion!
Only good thing is, that for London, prices are very reasonable. I’d rather pay more for better food and service though.
Sorry, won’t return 😏

We had a takeaway delivered and it took over an hour which was advised but because it rated 4/5 we said we would wait for it. When the food came it was totally tasteless! You would not even know what you were eating. Must say we were all very disappointed as previous reviews seemed good.

We arrived at 10pm (they advertise to close at 11pm) and we felt so unwelcome. From the minute we walked in, they were pushing us to leave. The service was awful and the food didn’t even make up for it. Everything was so dry. Awful experience. 0/10

The service is particularly good, and the food as good as most. Whilst the interior is fairly basic, I'd recommend the Gandhi of you are looking for a reasonably priced meal in Kennington

It wasn't busy when we were there so the atmosphere was OK. But the tables are very close and it would probably be less comfortable when busy. The food was fine and so was the price - nothing fantastic but okay. The service was good.

Food was very tasty. Perhaps needed a little more sauce. However there were items missing from the order and the restaurant knew which items before I told them. They laughed at me.

VERY BAD !!!! .. firstly I asked for a lime and soda it was very weak so asked for more lime .. they produced a bottle of roses lime from off a shelf behind the bar pour a significant more amount of lime in the soda water of which I first thought perfect , but on drinking the soda it then became apparent the whole bottle of lime was watered down .. this disturbed me as how long has that bottle actually been under that desk watered down with old water in , I really didn’t want to make a fuss because I was out with my friend and didn’t want to spoil her evening so I just ordered a coke instead …
The starter arrived quite quickly it was spiced cauliflower pakora this was clearly heated up in the microwave and was not in no way fresh was tasteless and old very poor ..
moving on to the main dish my friend ordered the
Chicken korma and me the tandoori chicken this arrived and was disgustingly tasteless very very poor and the chicken was pink inside on slicing into it , that was it for us we left it and couldn’t wait to leave the premises .. I can confirm the best thing about the meal was the after eight mint with the bill .. never again !!! The photos of celebrities in the window enjoying the restaurant are massively outdated going back to 2014 and beyond these guys cannot cook at all currently very very poor

Very enjoyable meal. We eat a lot of Indian food and really enjoyed the fresh spicy tastes at Ghandi's. Good service and modest prices.

Friendly staff, usually easy to get a table. Cosy is the word for the restaurant really as it's quite tight inside so be prepared to be squished a bit. There is a large variety of food, so even if you have members in your party who are not fans of Indian cuisine, they are guaranteed to find something they like. Not too expensive, ideal for a casual dinner out.

This is our local curry house but we've never eaten in so decided to give it a try. Easy to reserve a table online. The food, as always, was great. We tried the lamb biriani, a jalfrezi and garlic naan-all were tasty and well cooked. Quick service too. Definitely worth a try.
