Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While the pub was a little loud, the service was very good as was the food. We both had burgers and I really enjoyed the vegan burger which was delicious and came with a very nice ‘mayo’. My drink tasted a little weird though... possibly dishwasher residue. This is a good place for vegetarians to eat with a vegan burger and a few cheese options on the menu so I would return for that.

My husband and I stopped off here on a walk with our dog. Staff friendly and 2 glasses of red wine cost us £13. Dogs are allowed in the downstairs area of the pub but no signs in the window to indicate so or on their website. We enjoyed our stop here.

Met my schoolfriend and her choir members for carol singing in Trafalgar Square and visited this pub afterwards. Some of the best mulled wine I've ever tasted and a superb buffet. Good combination of a pub and lounge setting. Very convenient for buses and the station.

We went with friends for a Sunday roast but it was just awful. Soup was lukewarm and accompanied by cold bread burnt to a crisp. We asked for another slice and the server happily obliged. One of our half chicken "roasts" came out raw on the inside with white slimy skin and looked like it was either microwaved or boiled. Why anyone would think it was appropriate to serve such garbage to their customers is beyond me. We ended up returning it. The server gave us a refund and asked if we wanted anything else, but after being served that monstrosity, we didn't want to take our chances. So my husband left hungry. Others at the table had tough, dry and cold meat. The veg were OK but again, cold. I don't know who works in that kitchen but they need to figure out their staff. Serving undercooked chicken is nothing short of dangerous.

The Crown is a lovely pub that is local to us and so we had Sunday lunch here for the first time today. What a disappointment. The food wasn’t good. We had a mix of meat and vegetarian roasts at our table and all were distinctly underwhelming. The main issue was the temperature of the food, our hottest meal was tepid and one was actually cold. There were plenty of vegetables, which came as a shared dish for the table, but they were room temperature. We waited ages for dessert and when it turned up it wasn’t what was on the menu, as the kitchen had apparently run out of ingredients. While we were in the pub a table next to us had their food delivered but complained that it was cold. They got a refund and left. It’s a real shame, as the menu looked good and the pub itself is nice, with friendly staff and a decent selection of well kept ales. The food needs some attention and it could be a lovely Sunday spot.

Haven’t been in The Crown for many years and was really looking forward to Sunday lunch in there. What a disappointment as both of our roasts were stone cold! I don’t want to send it back for it to be microwaved so are it due to hunger but I prefer my roasts hot or at least warm! Another two friend turned up and had also ordered roasts and one was stone cold and the other was so small it looked like someone had eaten half. When we complained we were told it was all that was left but you. An have some pigs in blankets to make up for it! A bowl of pigs and roast potatoes duly arrived but wouldn’t it have been better to have put the potatoes on the plate in the first place! At least the small portion was hot!

This was our first time earing here, family of 6 and sadly we will not be returning. We waited 1hr 25 mins for our food. We did get 3 free cokes, a wine and an apple juice free for the wait being so long and also to be fair it was really busy due to race for life and beautiful weather. The food though was not food. We ordered two kids cheeseburger meals, each only with half a hamburger and a sprinkle of cheese. How can you only put in half a hamburger? The fishfinger sandwich contained two fishfingers and at £10, this is a bit of a joke. The kid’s macaroni cheese was dry and bland. Im not sure if we were served these dishes on purpose because we complained about the length of time but thats a shame becausethe actual pub is nice and cool with lots of space. Given the quality and portion size of the food though we will never return.

Stopped by for Sunday lunch at the newly refurbished Crown, Blackheath and the visit did not disappoint. The staff were friendly and attentive, with the general manager Jan stopping by at tables and checking in on his guests Had a drink on the ground floor before being shown to our table which was on the first floor dining area. The food was exceptional - the elevated prawn cocktail giving that nod to a British classic, the vegetarian Sunday roast (vegan option available) simply delicious! Too full for a dessert on this visit. Saw the sharing roast "Thor's Hammer" going past and will definitely be back with the whole family for that! Blackheath has been crying out for a pub of this calibre. After what seems to have been an age of waiting, finally it has arrived!

Our visit was during the first really cold snap of the autumn, and the pub was absolutely freezing. This meant it was not possible to remove any outer clothing. Couldn't fault the quality of drinks or service, but the food was dreadful. The sausage sandwich was served on white bread spread with margarine without the promised mustard and was barely edible. In fairness though, the chips were delicious despite being cooked from frozen. On a more positive note, it's in a great location (it is after all in Blackheath) and has a great outdoor seating area perfect for summer

I went with some hungry people to have their beef roast on the bone for Sunday lunch. It was amazing! You have to order it in advance but it was worth it. The meat was so tender and tasty and the yorkies were amazing. The village has a new top roast!

Fish and chips, fish batter not cooked through, burger very over cooked. Lovely waitress apologised and spoke to her manager who never came out to speak to us to investigate further. Refund given. The fact that there were only 2 cubicles in the toilets proved to be a challenge, one of my friends was very sick when she got home , good for drinks but not food.

First ever visit & went today, Mothers Day. Pub was incredibly busy but had a lovely atmosphere. We sat downstairs. Service was excellent, they have incredibly friendly staff & our waiter Ziggy was incredibly friendly and accommodating. 3 of us had the roast beef & other 2 had the F&Chips. The beef was cooked really well, nice & pink and we had a great selection of veg, Yorkshire & cauliflower cheese. I really enjoyed mine & I’m incredibly fussy when it comes to a Sunday roast. Starters were also really nice. The pub has recently been refurbished and it looks really nice and the service & food has obviously improved at the same time. This is somewhere I would definitely return to & the Management should be really proud of their staff 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Went for just drinks on mother's day & was told we couldn't go in as we hadn't reserved a table, we got there as it opened. Since the refurbishment the pub has gone down hill, overpriced drinks & overpriced food & never any tables to sit at. What pub books all the tables out so no-one can go & sit & just have a drink on a Sunday. Was rold by the manager at the door "have you booked a table, because it is mother's day you know." I have been going to this pub for over 8 years & I have never been as disappointed with it as I have since the refurbishment. I will not be returning.

Seen some great reviews since the refurbishment so wanted to check out the pub for myself. The decor is fantastic, really cosy with deep green walls and dark wood furniture. Lovely big bar and we were served quickly. We were 8 friends so quite a big group. We ordered Sunday roasts, which were delicious! Fresh ingredients and cooked with care. To top it off the pub is dog friendly. Wonderful afternoon out!

Had such a lovely afternoon in The Crown. Nearly never went because of bad reviews. Glad I changed my mind. I had curry and chicken wings. Food was delicious and HUGE portions. None of us could finish our meals. Staff were so friendly
