I get to The Ship for lunch as often as I can, which is not as often as I would like. Nicolson's pub food is probably the best of any chain in London overall, and The Ship is one of the most characterful of their many characterful properties. The upstairs dining room is a relaxed eyrie with attractive traditional decor.... More

Three friends decided to try the Ship again as we hadn't been there for a long time. We went to the upstairs bar as it was very busy outside and in the ground floor bar. We were welcomed by the lovely barmaid who found us a table. We ordered our drinks, two beers and a glass of rose for myself,... More

The staff were really friendly in here. We ate upstairs and the barmaid went downstairs for my beer. It had run out, so she brought me a taster of what they had closest tasting. THEN she went back downstairs to get my beer! The food was nice. It was a pub with a good atmosphere.

Passing by and thought we'd have a wee drink! Lovely little boozer but full of posh folk from the office who think they own the place

Excellent and highly attentive service. Some of the food was good. The pastry and chips were very nicely made some of it however was quite poor the chicken was extremely tough and carrots were not cooked And in fact hard. The cheese pie was a little tasteless and the vegetables uninspiring. For the location in the city the cost was... More

We booked a meal here for a birthday lunch at 2pm, by which time most of the office workers had returned to work and we had the place almost to ourselves. It's a lovely, interesting old pub in a handy location as we had been to the Sky Garden beforehand. The menu was varied with something for everyone, reasonably priced... More

Recommended by our fellow drinkers and foodies, on entering the Ship we were warmly greeted even though it was very busy. Suggested our preference on cask ale, and was offered a taster, very professional!!! We were then asked if we were dining, and informed of the dining room upstairs, amazing find. When entering the dining room we were greeted by... More

So glad we found this little pub before our visit and booked for a quick lunch. We were greeted downstairs with a warm welcome and the hostess for lunch was so attentive we could not fault the service. The food arrived quickly and was well presented, looking forward to returning soon. It was ideally located for anyone visiting the sky... More

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
