This is a great location in Greenwich for Dim Sum. A very large restaurant which I have often see hosting weddings and functions. Located below the Holiday Express hotel on Bugsby Way. Always busy in a Sunday from morning to late afternoon, generally with a very high proportion of Asian clientele which certainly supports my view that the food is very authentic. My one negative is that the service could be much better, especially as they add a service charge of 12.5%. On an occasion of extremely poor service I declined to pay the service charge, at which point the restaurant refused to give me free parking. I paid the £3.50 to the hotel rather than the ridiculous £29 they wanted for basically insulting my group. On saying that I have eaten here numerous times and have always enjoyed the food.

Starting with the hall like appearance, little effort has been taken to improve the feel of the place, the waiters while efficient were not friendly. I went in as a single diner, early evening while the restaurant was mostly emply, one would think you could choose where to sit, but no, all the guests were directed to an area in front of the kitchen, including couples who looked like they were out for a quiet dinner. Food was served cold, had to send it back for reheating, and while the roast pork belly was tasty, i have definitely had much better fried rice.

Quality of the food is pretty average, you get much more tasty dishes in Chinatown. Service is as usual, quite bad. The waiters just don't talk to you and almost bump into you in the main dining room. Also, beware of the parking charge of £3.50 if you drive there. I remember a time when the food was much better and parking was free.

Went to the Saikei today with family. Not good food today. The meat was chewy and the spring rolls were dripping with oil. When asked for a finger bowl in the end, the waitresses literally dumped one bowl (we were four of us)in the middle of the table and disappeared. My 8 year old decided to use it but couldn't as the water was very cold! When we decided not to pay the £7 discretionary charge, we were told we have to or else the parking would not be paid for and that we will recieve a ticket. When challanged that it's a "discretionary" charge, he said, "we write that but we don't mean it". When I still refused to pay the additional £7, he said he won't be able to give us a receipt of the bill we paid because we hadn't paid the full bill! (I totally failed to understand how that made sense) I told the waiter that the charges were optional and had nothing to do with the parking. I said that it says in their T&Cs that we are supposed to register our car registration no at the reception(which we did) and the charges will be covered by the restaurant. It does not say that this won't happen if you do not pay the optional charges! I then asked for the manager. A member of staff came (who I thought was the manager) but kept repeating the same thing. Then we had to take ourselves to the lady on the till who then also refused to give us a proper reciept but agreed to give us a hand writen account of the items on a paper. When we asked for the manager's name so that we could make a note, he said he wasn't the manager and that there was NO manager on duty in the restaurant!! Finally, we left the restaurant with a not so authentic bill and hoping we don't get a parking ticket in post.

Arrived to an outdated, run down (without forgetting filthy) restaurant having been recommended by a friend for good food… we definitely went to the wrong place. We waited to long to be greeted or given a table (plenty available) whilst waiters walked past us multiple times. Whilst other waiters who were arriving late for work continuously squeezed past us. When atlast we was reluctantly sat with a menu, we had to try very hard to get someone’s attention to order some drinks - which is how the service remained through out. The food brought out to us was not what we ordered, but both me and my partner work in hospitality and felt abit uncomfortable complaining (having watched another family kick off and walk out), so we didn’t say anything as the food did look good. We specified dietary requirements when ordering (no pork + no chili for preference). What was served to us, had pork - not that we realized until it was too late. We did at this point let the waiter know, eventually. She did replace this for us… reluctantly. After having a few more bites we decided to ask for our bill, having barely touched our undercooked and random food we just wanted to leave this bizarre place. Whilst paying the bill, asked them to remove service charge and was told it’s not optional, which obviously is bs - there staff are only paid with the tips (what???) and that if we didn’t we’re not allowed to return. Avoid at all cost

Had booked a table online and had to wait 45mins to be seated. No social distancing whatsoever and service was SLOW. Busy but waiters were not attentive in the slightest. Had to ask 6 times for our drinks. Half the menu had sold out. Almost 50mins, after our order was put through and waiting 45mins for our 1st set of dishes, waiters left us waiting a further 30mins to tell us the next set of dishes we ordered are delayed a further 30mins. Our drinks still were not here. Seriously if you want customers back and to feel safe, take bookings only for bigger groups and have walk in for small groups only. I witness several customers helping themselves to refilling teapots and picking up the cutlery due to lack of staff available to service the customers.Your staff cannot handle it and its a shame as food was good. And all tables and chairs should be wiped down after each cover. They weren't by the way. Greed over saftey.

checked the reviews before we came an didn't look to good but as we were staying upstairs we saw how busy the place looked so we went in and gave it a try. everything seemed okay but the décor was dated and felt like i was in conference room the menu seems good did chines food which i have never seen before such as duck tonge ect, so i thought wow must be good authentic chinese food. where we was sat we was facing another table and on that table a women was cleaning knives and fork which didn't really bother me. the waiters and waitresses didn't look happy and we was getting stared at y them which made it weird. when we got given our meals there was no ' hi how are you' she dumped the food on the edge of the table and walked off . i noticed on another table some women asked for a seafood fried rice but noticed there was pork for it, and i think she asked for no prawn but as she was complaining the bloke just didn't do anything to resolve it as offer her another meal without the pork or try and amend the issue he just listened walked away and left it. on another table they forgot their drinks with the looks of it and the waiter shouted to the bar staff they need them drinks and ive never seen another waiter shout across the room and i go to a lot of restaurants across England as i work away from home. i couldn eat the chicken in my fried rice it looked a bit pinkish and with the experience i was having i couldnt chance it. now i could have come here on a bad day i like to give benefit of the doubt but after reading more reviews maybe it is just the place. i think this place would do better if the staff had more of a welcoming feel and more polite.

My wife and I booked and visited Saikei on a weekday for dim sum (our yearly trip to Hong Kong has been postponed and we were in need of a good dim sum!). The food and service were both excellent. Saikei has an extensive menu and we sampled numerous items, all arrived at our table freshly cooked and piping hot. Highlights were the Steamed Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce, Chinese Sausage and Chicken on Rice, Grilled Squid Cakes and Sweet & Sour Prawn Wonton. The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive and they took particular care with Covid-19 precautions: our temperatures taken on arrival, contact details noted and it was reassuring to see all staff wearing face masks and tables and chairs disinfected after each customer left. We will definitely be visiting Saikei again in the future.

Hi poorest service I have ever received at a restaurant. Firstly they charged us £5 for inputting our number plate wrong and told us this only after we had submitted it by mistake.  There was no sign to warn the customers about this or written policy. When our food was being taken away , one of the waiters spilled sauce over my family member and drenched him. We explained during the payment process that the number plate was a genuine mistake but we still had to pay which was fine. However, the bill was wrong as we were charged for dishes that did have. At this point, we told the manager that we did not want to pay the discretionary service charge ( an optional fee ) especially as the manager was beginning to raise his voice. This is when the manager shouted word for word at the top of his voice . ' if you don't have money to spend don't come out ' ' as Chinese people not paying the service charge is a complete embarrassment' ' as the manager I can just not serve you next time you come back to the restaurant'  ' customers are not always right ' This behaviour from a manager is completely unacceptable and the way he spoke to us was disgusting. The policy implemented are not clear and the management is also terrible.  This isn't the first time I've heard the manager or staff being rude to the customers . It's unbelievable that saikei has someone like that is managing the staff and business

Okay, we were staying above the restaurant and it was raining but can't recommend it as a place to eat. Higher priced than anywhere else I've been to and for crazy small portions. Do not order egg fried rice, it has 1 flavour which is the oil it swims in.

Prices here are reasonable, but as over the years, they do get a bit more expensive and portions decrease in size which is common sadly. The food here however is consistent over the years. We went recently and their food was still good, better than Royal China in my opinion. They do some off menu items if you ask, such as the three roast fried noodles. Dim sum was good, however not all were to our taste, but personal preference.

My friend and I had a lovely time here. Service was good and the food was delicious. Easy to pay the set fee of £3.50 for parking, once inside the restaurant and was reasonably priced for the portions you get. Wonderful array of people... no frills dining, overall I highly recommend this place. 5 stars 🌟

November 2023 I went to century restaurant in Greenwich, I rounded up the bill so as to pay a bit service charge. The waiter was polite and didn't protest. Unlike the previous time when I paid a fraction of the 15% service charge, the waiter threatened to take a photo of my car registration number and send it to Greenwich county council. These waiters had no manners and would openly argue with customers despite the fact that the bill says Service charge is discretionary. Last Sunday, I paid cash £70 to clear the bill of £66. The waiter said, "You're not paying the service charge 15%?". Again, hassle in this restaurant. I put down £1 coin extra, He said, "My manager will query me for this." I told him that the word DISCRETIONARY meant just that and we left. This thuggish greedy waiter was so rude. They already increased the price of King Prawn Fried noodles by adding £2 since November. MY ADVICE: Give half the charge and ask if the waiter knows the meaning of Discretionary. Ignore their rudeness!

My husband and I visited this place a few times. Obviously, the prices have gone up due to the effect of everything. The food is really good, especially the dim sum. But my goodness, the staff were terrible. No one at the front desk to show us to our table but I can see one of the waiters was daydreaming and not really paying attention to what was happening around him. When we sat down, I asked him about the types of meat and rice and he looked at me as if I should know what was in them. Very unwelcoming.

Food was average but service appalling. We have come here for over 15 years and have used the place as a wedding venue before. On this occasion, we were bullied into paying £5 for parking for a simple error in the system 10 seconds walking in due to “restaurant policy”, but this policy wasn’t publicly displayed anywhere in the restaurant. When we spoke to the Manager about this he was extremely rude and insulted us, he raised his voice at us and said “the customer is not always right”. They also spilled sauce all over someone’s shirt and tried to charge us for items that never came. This place is getting worse and worse. Management is terrible. We’re never coming here again.

Greenwich
Greenwich Mean Time starts here, so to speak, as the very concept of global time was established at Royal Observatory, just one of several buildings of architectural interest in Greenwich. Indeed, the whole of Greenwich's historic town center, its Royal Park and a number of related buildings (and one world famous ship, the Cutty Sark) make up the UNESCO World Heritage site known as Maritime Greenwich. Today a laser beam is shot out across the night sky from the Observatory to mark the location of the Prime Meridian. Other bold (some say brash) 21st century additions to the area include landmarks such as The O2 entertainment complex (previously known as the Millennium Dome) and the Air Line cable cars, which offer scenic transport across the Thames between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks.
