My fiancee and I wanted to enjoy a traditional British afternoon tea while in London, but did not want to pay a fortune. We found this spot online and were not disappointed- you get a great amount of food for your money and the baked goods were delicious as was the tea. For 15 pounds, we received three full sandwiches, four slices of cake, two macarons, two scones, clotted cream and jam as well as a full pot of tea, plenty to really fill us up! The service is also extremely friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming.

I was here at the end of December with friends for a hearty breakfast before a long day of sightseeing. This was actually my second visit to this cafe (my first one was almost exactly a year ago in December 2018) since I enjoyed it so much the first time around! We arrived around 9:00am and there wasn't a wait which was great. However, it does seem to pick up a little bit after that as by the time we finished our meal, there was a line out the door! The breakfast menu is easy to follow and there are a large selection of coffee/tea options as well. I got the traditional English breakfast with a tea pot of Earl Grey and it was fantastic and not too pricey either. The staff were all very kind and patient with us as we took our time to order. They accept card, but service charge is not included (and this can only be added on using cash/coin, make sure you bring this if you'd like to tip your servers!).
Once again, highly recommend this place. Very accessible location and a good starting point before sightseeing in central London.

We were looking for the Bella Maria Cafe which sounded good on Trip Advisor. Walked all along the street but couldn't find it. We noticed there was a queue waiting outside the English Rose Cafe for it to open and thought that might do for us instead. We were not disappointed! We ordered a full English breakfast. Our tea was served the old fashioned way with tea pot and bone china cups. The food was delicious, hot and plentiful. My only suggestion is that they add a smaller English breakfast choice maybe of one item of each thing as it was just too much for me. The service was friendly and efficient. The cafe filled up very quickly so was obviously popular. We discovered before leaving that the name had recently changed from Bella Maria to the English Rose .

The staff here are fantastic! We were going from the afternoon tea to the airport and had 2 carry-on pieces of luggage. It is a small European style cafe without a lot of extra space; but the staff kindly told us where to put the bags. Please note, there isn’t a lot of space for large pieces of luggage; even our bags made it a bit tight.
Great location; close to Buckingham palace and right off the Victoria tube station. This was the best priced afternoon tea in London that I was able to find that included sandwiches and not just scones or sweet bites.
The cafe is adorably decorated with a fun selection of mismatched dishes. The tea is excellent. We each had an individual pot of tea which was plenty for us, but other customers asked for additional pots of tea and were quickly accommodated. The tea portions were what I would expect for an afternoon tea—3 mini sandwiches, 3 mini desserts, a regular scone with clotted cream and jam. We left feeling completely satisfied with the portion amounts.
The reason I am only giving 3 stars was the selection of food served, particularly the sandwiches. They were very basic, all on white sandwich bread, and nothing special. Tuna with corn and ham with butter are both simple sandwiches that one would pack for a boxed lunch to take to work; not something I’d expect to be served at an afternoon tea. Even though it was a relatively inexpensive afternoon tea, I still thought for 15 GBP per person we should have had nicer sandwiches.
I saw other customers ordering off of the menu and their full-sized sandwiches looked delicious and unique. I would certainly return to this cafe and try ordering off of the menu, but wouldn’t repeat the afternoon tea.

Hi KMK_Foodie
Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your service, the quantity of food, and the tea. It is disappointing to get a negative review describing the afternoon tea as a lower quality than you wanted. We try to give customer the afternoon tea experience without them having to pay the expensive price tag that it usually comes with this, though this means that our sandwiches are not as fancy as some afternoon tea sandwiches, to make it more affordable. As you have mentioned yourself, our afternoon tea is much more affordable, though as described, this means it will also not be as fancy as others either!

Been here several times for lunch with my Daughter In Law which has always been excellent!! So I thought I would bring my two Granddaughter’s for breakfast in view it was there first time in London and we were staying with my son who lives very close to the cafe. We ordered two full English breakfast and one sausage sandwich, the breakfast were very poor as the bacon wasn’t fresh, the hash brown you could not put your fork in it to cut into it as it was burnt, beans cold and didn’t get a side plate with toast and butter on, it was on top of the eggs with the yolks broke. I mentioned all this to the waitress who just said sorry but looked at me as if to say better luck next time. To say the least I wasn’t impressed and would say they need to get a good cook who knows how to cook and present a proper fresh full English breakfast. I will not go ever again for breakfast and now will think twice before going to lunch!

Thanks for your review, Woodentops.
We are sorry you didn't enjoy your breakfast. The waitress would have got you a new one if you had requested it. We are sorry it was not up to scratch in the first place. We cook our breakfasts fresh, so it is a shame you did not think it was.
It is disappointing that you have been several times before, and enjoyed it enough to come back repeatedly, and even brought your family, though never thought to leave us a positive review.
Have a great day!

Lovely cafe, but it was a shame about the service and food. I thought that afternoon tea was meant to be an experience. It certainly was and Not one to be repeated. Not good valve for money, 3/4 of a sandwich, cakes that were bought in. The cream and Jam for the scones was only enough for one half of a scone and it was afternoon tea for 2 people.
The staff were unfriendly and miserble, not once did they come over to the table to ask if very thing was ok. The only member of staff who was pleasant was a young man that greeted us as we arrived. Definitely not value for money or a revisit.

Thanks for your review, Karen. We are sorry you did not receive the service you should have received. We have spoken to the team to make them aware of your review so it will not happen again, and to work out what went wrong here. We would have been happy to give you some more cream and jam if you had wished, and often have customers let us know that the afternoon tea was too much food, so sorry you did not think this. Hopefully you will give us another chance in the future. Have a lovely day.

Yesterday I had a lovely afternoon tea with a couple of friends at the English Rose Cafe: we had a generous pot of Earl gray tea with delicious scones, finger sandwiches, macaroons, brownies and cake. Everything was super tasty and incredibly cheap (just 15 pounds for each person) and the girls who served us were really nice and friendly. The tea room is lovely, even the toilets were cute and spotless! We had a wonderful time and it's just five minutes away from Victoria station so it's easily reachable from every part of the town. Definitely worth to try!

As the title suggests, the atmosphere and waiters in the English Rose are very pleasant. The breakfast, however, was just about edible. The scrambled eggs couldn’t have been made with actual eggs, and the avocado was rotten. Also, the salmon was very questionable. I definitely wouldn’t recommend going here for food. The coffees were nice though!

Hi Colm Q
Thanks for your review. It is a shame you didn't enjoy the food. Our food is all freshly made to order, and the scrambled eggs are all made with free range eggs We would have happily replaced your meal for something else at the time if you had let us know you were unhappy with it. Hopefully you will give us another chance another time. Have a great day!

I saw this charming cafe from the coach and walked back (less than 10 mins ) to find it.
Sit outside or in, the ambience is pleasant , once you've ordered no one bothers you or rushes you out . I had a roast vegetable salad, also a hot drink . It was incredibly good value, tasty and fresh and I had time to gather my thoughts, attempt my crossword and listen to the well chosen music before travelling on by train .
I will definitely visit again - I hear the breakfast menu is as good as the lunch time, with hot food choices before 12 .

Busy little place, but we luckily managed to find a spot. Ordered tea, scones with jam and clotted cream and their gluten free warm brownie with a bit of whipped cream (it was gooey and very chocolate-y, definitely worth to try)!
All caked are made in their kitchen downstairs. The service was great as well, very sweet and friendly.

My friends and I stoped by this restaurant for a casual tea time and to get out of the rain. They were very accommodating and helped clear tables so we didn’t have stay in the rain. Our flight also got cancelled while we are having breakfast and the servers said we could stay as long as we needed and gave us advice for how to reschedule and where to stay.
The tea itself was incredible and I’d highly recommend their delicious scones. They also had a traditional English breakfast that was amazing.
Overall, they had incredible service and food and I’d rate this place 5/5 every time!!

The flat white coffee was very watery with no foam on top. Given the price, I complained and got a tea instead, but was still charged for it at the end. Tea selection was average but the cake I had was fairly nice.

Hi Emma
Sorry you didn't get the quality we usually serve. The team have been made aware of this so we can make sure the mistake is not made again. We pride ourselves on good food and coffee so this is disappointing. You should not have been charged the coffee in addition to your replacement tea, so this was a mistake on the servers part. We are happy to refund your coffee when you are in the area next. Glad you enjoyed the cake!

My parents and I had breakfast at the English rose café last February. It was our last day in London and we wanted to try the typical English breakfast and although we had arrived only few minutes before 12pm they cooked us our English breakfast. All the waiters are so kind! The food is really good and the room is really cute, the walls, the decorations!
I definitely recommend this cafe and i can't wait to be back in London to visit them again!

In London for a long weekend with 2 other girlfriends, on our last day we were looking for some place to experience tea and take a break with ambiance. The English Rose was perfect.
Inside was adorable, decorated so beautifully and homey. It was busy and almost closing time so we chose to sit outside. The selection of teas was lovely and we were able to pick some to share. Also amazing was their selection of desserts which were so tasty and included gluten free options. I had the carrot cake which was so rich and decadent you would never know it was gluten free. The prices were completely reasonable and we wish we had had more time to stay or come back. Another adorable touch was the fact that they served all the tea in unique tea cups and saucers that were very elegant. If I had had room in my luggage I would have purchased some to take home to the States.
It also looked like they had a great menu for food not just deserts.
The English rose is located close to Buckingham palace. Highly recommend if you're touring the area and don't want to spend a fortune at a high tea at a fancy hotel for a few hours, This is a perfect option to have a bit of afternoon English tea experience. If we are to return I know exactly where it is and will be sure to revisit.
What a gem of a place and we were so fortunate to find it.

Really sorry to say this as the girls there were really nice and very hard working and the place itself is quite fun to visit but for £18 each three of us we were given a selection of dry, very amateuishly made cakes and scones and a cup of tea and felt s bit ripped off. I'm no great baker but my cakes and scones are much better. Come on, English Rose, pull your socks up! The Athenaeum and others nearby do a fabulous job. There's no shortage of goof competition out there. These little cakes and sandwiches cost next to notjing to make. Show your customers you care and make more effort please. £54 's way too much for what you offered.

If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
