We have regularly dined at Prawn on the Farm, Prawn on the Lawn and Barnabys in Padstow (Full disclosure here - my good wife has spent a lifetime in Restaurant Management including a spell at The Seafood Restaurant so tends to set the bar pretty...high) so whilst in London we naturally headed for Islington. We arrived at 7pm as per our booking - the oysters were superb, the hake and cuttlefish good but several of the other dishes lacked that extra magic offered in the Padstow eateries. The real problem arose when just over an hour into our meal we were hurried along as they apparently needed the table back - I showed them my booking which gave us the table till 8.45 but to no avail, our indifferent waitress was clearly not convinced and at 8.20 even before our dessert and accompanying drinks arrived the bill was unceremoniously dumped on my wife, I was paying for the meal which kind of killed the moment so thanks for that ? Maybe black pudding munching middle aged northerners are not the target demographic of this ultra hip venue and I’m reluctant to blame poorly trained staff who would clearly benefit from more experienced management however as you state in your recent book, “You wanted a place where customers would love to spend time” …. So did I ?More

Had three small dishes with bread and the spuds. As a lone diner would recommend only two small dishes if you fancy pudding. Started with red mullet - delicious and delicate. Followed by cod on butterbeans in a herby tomato sauce. FInished with skate wing...with dry curry topping. All excellent, and highly to be recommended. The side of potatoes was fine - spicy roasties with what appeared to be batter scraps and small slices of chopped spring onion in the bottom of the dish. Look forward to returning. Good value considering the high standard of cookery. Easy to get to, too.More

We enjoyed our first visit to Prawn on the Lawn. Located in what looks like an old shop it is one of several restaurants in the immediate area and only a few minutes walk from Highbury & Islington tube. We settled on a selection of...small plates choosing mackerel, prawns, tuna and a plate of spicy potatoes. Everything we ate was fresh and tasty though next time we will try a large dish for 2 as we came away having had an enjoyable meal though still a little hungry. We had a decent bottle of Italian red from Puglia + aperitif and digestif. The damage £165 for 2. Decent seafood is expensive so with our drinks we were not suprised by the bill - you can eat here for less. Service was friendly and there was a nice atmosphere. We will go again.More

Long term customers of Prawn on the Lawn, we had a very nice lunch here today. Taramasalta with crisp bread was excellent as always. We normally have the small plates (which are very good) but today we went for the orzetto which was delicious. Service...was friendly and efficient - what’s not to like? Limited vegetarian options so check before you go.More

Poor quality, too much salt, overpriced, rude unfriendly staff, terrible oysters, obviously kept too long, seated in front of the kitchen, cramped no space, one particular member of staff can only be described as disinterested and unfriendly, spent 200£ on burnt bread and poor quality food,...people should know that most of the menus claims are false and they do not have them, a place to avoid, having been to the other restaurant in Cornwall, they are incomparable, one is quality, the one in north London is shockingly bad.More

Fanastic seafood fusion, best and freshest products, original receipts fused with the asian sauces. Adopted themselves to IBS sensitives and customized the dishes. Bought their cookbook.

The food was imaginative and has great flavours and for once the concept of small dishes (often used cynically to get customers to spend more than that would otherwise have paid) works brilliantly here. The Lemon Sole is excellent and the veg dishes really tasty...and different. What we liked in particular was the vibe. Easy going but attentive service and the feeling that the custonmers were enjoying being there. Will definitely go back.More

Small restaurant located close to Highbury and Islington station.Visited late afternoon.Chose 3 plates, mackerel, scallops and tomato salad.Good quality ingredients that were cooked well and tasted delicious. The casaretti -Veneto wine matched well with the dishes. Service friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the tables are very small...and close together which at a time when the restaurant is at full capacity could be somewhat uncomfortable if wanting a more quiet dining experience. Recommended for fish and seafood loversMore

We sampled many of the small plates on offer and they were cooked to perfection. From Monkfish satay, to mussels, to sardines, tuna and pollock, the quality of fish was superb. We were only disappointed that there were no prawns at all! The desserts were...middling. The salted caramel was too salty and there was not enough cream/raspberries to offset. Overall we were here for the fish and that did not disappoint and the staff were attentive and helpful throughout.More

Hi, POTL is a very small restaurant! I’m unsure of what the rule is, but last time I was there there was a small doggy in the window area.
