This is a typical, which is good, Italian restaurant. There were a group of 10 of us having done a guided walk of the British Museum and this was nearby. Being 10 of us we had booked and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. It has all the usual options, appetisers and antipasta, pizza, pasta as well as fish, chicken, red meat and risotto. We all had both starters and mains and everyone seemed to enjoy what they had. I am trying to reduce my salt intake, which is difficult eating out, but our waiter understood. He arranged for my penne to be cooked in water without salt and whilst the arrabbiata sauce was understandably already prepared that morning, arranged for the kitchen to provide a freshly chopped tomato, chilli, garlic etc sauce. It tasted excellent and was amongst the most successful attempts at providing me something with a lack of salt. Often I just give up and eat something off the menu as I don’t like to just be one of the awkward squad. The service overall was good and friendly. There is an excellent choice of good value wines and we had both a very nice white and red. A good Italian, good and friendly service at a very reasonable price.

I had the Penne Alla Norma and it was really delicious, the mozzarella pieces were melted with the aubergine and pasta which was perfectly al dente. The waiter was very attentive and kind, he gave me as much parmesan cheese as I wanted. I was sat outside on one of the tables on the very cute pedestrian street from where I would see the columns of the British Museum. Reasonably priced for such a well located restaurant as well!

What a wonderful little restaurant. Very small little place, we were created by a lovely chap who was very happy to show us to our table. He was the only person front of house but took excellent care of us, and the other customers there too. We sat outside under a lovely blue sky, enjoyed a lovely house wine and an aperol spritz. My partner had a Chicken Caesar Salad (the chicken was cooked to perfection and tasted brilliant) I had a lovely Carbonara and we split a perfect pizza. The desserts were also on par with the main dishes, absolutely delightful. If you’re in the west end for a show or have visited the British Museum, this is a fantastic little Italian place, which after the 2 years we’ve all had deserves some support.

I visited the Amarcord Museum restaurant on Sunday 19 December with five colleagues from work. The servers were very friendly and the ambience was pleasant. From there it all goes downhill. We were expecting generous, hearty, homecooked food and unfortunately received minimalist dishes that were improperly prepared, and not reflecting the description on the menu. We received dishes that we had not ordered. And remarkably we received dishes that were not on the menu. We were also charged on the bill for dishes that we never received. The portions were small to moderate which was a blessing considering most of the meals were incorrect, undercooked, bland and tasteless. One of the meals ordered by two of the guests was meant to be tagliatelle with gorgonzola and nuts. They received a dish with no cheese or nuts in sight and the sauce on the pasta was cold. I ordered the cheese board and was then told by the restaurant that there was no cheese left. They still tried to charge us for the cheese board on the bill. But at least we solved the mystery of the no-cheese tagliatelle dish. Four guests ordered the crostini and ended up with a type of flatbread that was not on the menu. And it was obvious that other guests on other tables were experiencing similar problems. It was a comedy of errors from beginning to end. They did remove the service charge from the bill. I fear the best days of this restaurant are long gone but if anyone has some nostalgia for 'Fawlty Towers', Basil is alive and well in the Amarcord Museum Restaurant.

We were down for London for the night and staying near the British Museum, it was sunny and this restaurant looked great with a pleasant outside area. I ordered the tagliatelle Gorgonzola and my husband had the lasagne. The curly haired waitress was very pleasant but the food came out via a sulky faced brunette who looked very cross when I asked for Parmesan and black pepper - I have never had to ask for these before at an Italian restaurant! She proceeded to dump a spoon of Parmesan in the middle of my dish and walk off - it was so marked that an American lady on the next table laughed at her and commented that she was ‘obviously cross with me’! The food looked great but my dish had no blue cheese in it whatsoever, I had to send it back. It was awful. It just tasted like a bowl of tepid cream. When it came back it wasn’t much improved but there was a faint taste of Gorgonzola. Still very disappointing. Then we asked for the bill and the sulky brunette reappeared with a handheld device. With no attempt at customer service or manners whatsoever she rejected our cards seven times! We told her there must be a problem with her machine but she became more and more rude and we became more and more embarrassed. Eventually my husband went into the restaurant and she admitted it was the signal: still no apology whatsoever. Worst customer service and food I have ever had in London, so disappointing when you come once in a blue moon for a special treat. Avoid at all costs.

A nice and cozy Italian restaurant with proper Italian food. Which the taste of was amazing, a bit of a let down was receiving only three small bruschettas, and beer was served in 330ml bottles. The atmosphere of the restaurant gives off a local town eatery vibe, which is quite pleasant. How you can tell that it's Italian was because at every table, they had table appropriate bottles with oil.

Looking for a not too touristy restaurant in a convenient location next to British Museum, happened upon Amarcord Museum Italian Restaurant. The service was friendly and efficient without being intrusive. They use fresh ingredients and have a nice varied menu. The pasta with eggplant and fresh mozzarella Di Buffa was delicious. The side dish of steamed vegetables was as plain as advertised, but when mixed into the leftover sauce from my pasta dish, they were quite enjoyable. The desserts sounded delicious, but I did not have any at this visit. I would eat there again.

having dined elsewhere and too full for dessert at the time, by the time we returned to our hotel, we fancied having coffee and dessert locally. this was one of only a couple of places open and when we said we only wanted dessert/coffees, the server seemed relieved although there were some people still dining inside but I guess at around 9.30pm, the kitchen want to go home sometime. Panna cotta, profiteroles and a couple of great Italian coffees were the order and very nice too. Had a friendly chat with the chap about the tourist situation due to pandemic which passed the time and made us feel welcome. didn't get chance to return but would certainly give it a try another time.

We lunched here on 13/4 following a trip to the British Museum which is 5 mins walk away. Small Italian restaurant with a window full of (overpriced) pastries. Serving staff were pleasant enough and drinks were provided quickly but we had to wait AGES for our food nearly three quarters of an hour. In the normal course of events we would have upped and left but we had our 8 year old Grandson with us and decided to stick it out as we were not in a rush. When the food finally arrived it was distinctly average both in terms of presentation and taste. This is not a place we will return to.

The food overall was disappointing; the pizza looked like it was purchased from Farm Foods; the garlic bread was cold, spaghetti bols was not a patch on mine and i’m certain the chips were McCains. The service was lacklustre. The table wobbled furiously with the slightest movement like we were stood atop of Everest chowing down in a huge Gail Platt. Nice ambiance. Great location. Please put more effort into the quality of the food… i passed a window full of pastries as i left and retched whilst pondering how long had they been there for.

We stopped here after visiting the British Museum. It’s only one block away on a lovely street with pedestrian traffic only. There is both outside seating and inside seating. I had the BEST latte ever made by a really nice waiter/Barista and my handmade pizza had super good crust/bread. Definitely would visit again!! There is gourmet coffee and desserts as well as full Italian menu.

The waiter was great and the interior is simple and cosy. But the food is somewhere between mediocre and bad - oversalted, not fresh and oily. Prices are average to high. It's one of those places that could only survive in tourist-heavy parts of the city.

We avoided the soulless museum cafes and found this one just round the corner. There was a great welcome early afternoon and we all had coffee and one of the delicious pastries on display. They were all excellent and certainly we shall return. The cost for 4 was £36, including service, which is probably par for the course in this area.

Found through Top Table as being "a stone's throw" from the Dominion theatre which is a bit misleading as it's about 15 minutes walk, very near British Museum. Tiny little traditional Italian trattoria with patisserie in window. Charming service and food was nice but nothing special. Half bottles available in red but not white wine- carafes would be ideal. Good place for lunch in nice quiet location.

First of all: this is not an Italian restaurant. As an Italian person I refuse to consider Italian any restaurant that has chicken with pasta or that put pasta next to the cotoletta alla milanese. I ordered a cotoletta and I had to send it back: all the breadcrumbs was coming away from the veal. They send me another one in like 5 minutes and was basically the same. The food is not fresh. To make a cotoletta you have to wet the meat with eggs, then pass into breadcrumbs until it's covered with it. And then fry it: if it's freshly done it takes you, between preparing it and cook it, at least 30 min. Not five. And usually you can see that it's freshly done cause it's still hot. Mine was cold, not tender Absolutely not, I save just the people there who are really nice, but never again.
