THE ONLY PLACE IN LONDON TO HAVE AFTERNOON TEA Wow, what can we say, my friend and I have had afternoon tea over the years at all the top places in London and this visit to the Hotel Cafe Royal has to be the best...ever! Where do I start….. Ambience, light piano music, attentive and knowledgeable staff, quality of food and drinks, total perfection! We had a table booked this week for 2.30pm, we arrived 15 minutes early and were shown to a comfy settee and our bags were taken to the cloakroom. Literally 10 minutes later we were shown to our table. Seats were slightly lower than normal but very comfy and added to the intimacy of the afternoon tea in a lovely way. The waiters came down to your level to discuss the menu which all added to the very personalised occasion for this afternoon tea. A special mention here to Emerson who was our waiter, charming young man. You could add a glass of fizz to the standard selection but as we had to drive home we declined. You could have as many different teas as you wanted to try and there were some very special ones on the menu. I ended up taking home a bag beautifully wrapped and packaged. The sandwiches came separately with a couple of amuse bouche on the top tier to tantalise your taste buds, then the sandwiches, two layers with four each, slightly larger than the normal “finger size” but I’m not complaining as it meant more filling! We changed our tea selection for the anticipated cake course but was asked if we would like any more sandwiches, of course I had to say yes! Again, no pressure on time which added to the delightful afternoon. We changed tea selection again and began the scones, both plain and fruit, plus the beautiful delicate cakes. Then just when you thought it was all over you were presented with a beautiful slice of chocolate cake covered in ganache and nuts (nut alternatives would have been available). Yes, you guessed it, we couldn’t finish everything, it was probably the extra sandwiches so they gave us a beautiful carry out box to take home to enjoy later. I cannot stress how wonderful this experience is and would definitely put this No 1 for afternoon tea in London. Do not hesitate, if you are thinking of enjoying this quint essential British tradition book Hotel Cafe Royal in Regent Street.More

Yestersay I was fortunate enough to have afternoon tea at Cafe Royal. Well what an amazing experience. I had friends visiting and wanted them to experience a traditional English tea, and Cafe Royal did all of that and more. The staff went above and beyond,...my friend got the proper spelling of their names - so apologies for the phonetics!! Shakmar, our attentive waiter who could not have been more accommodating and made some excellent tea recommendations, coming from a family with a tea farm he knew his tea. Shomo who supervised the event made us more than welcome and feel at home. The ambiance was second to none and the food and tea were spot on. I have been to a number of afternoon teas in London but this was definitely a favourite. Thank you so much for the experience.More

I booked afternoon tea for my friend's birthday and we both absolutely loved it from beginning to end. The light piano music, the sandwiches and cakes, and the great selection of teas. The room was stunning and the staff were amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive...throughout. Especially Emerson who was so lovely and kind, and Luigi who offered us all different teas to try. Nothing was too much trouble. My friend loved her birthday experience and said it was fantastic and didn't expect it to be so good as we have had other afternoon teas elsewhere, but this was the best! We will definitely be going back at some point and the staff really do make all the difference!More

We were recommended this afternoon tea by my brother and his wife, and it was amazing! It's located in the Hotel Cafe Royal, which is on Regent Street so there are a lot of shops and cool things to see nearby. We did the holiday...tea, and loved it. One unique thing that I've never seen with teas back here in the US is that all the tea and food were unlimited. We were able to change up our teas as often as we liked. Would recommend.More

Afternoon Tea at Café Royal was a truly wonderful experience! Every member of staff was helpful and very friendly; although waiters were willing to chat in a relaxed way, they were also unobtrusively attentive and professional. Each element of the food was delicious, delicately flavoured...and appealing to the eye as well as the appetite. The different teas complemented the food perfectly. Café Royal is a stunningly beautiful setting and it was such a pleasant environment in which to spend time with a special member of my family on a special occasion. I’m very grateful to everyone there who contributed to this memorable afternoon.More

We chose the Hotel Café Royal for my Mum’s birthday celebration yesterday, because it doesn’t get much more sublime than the afternoon tea here. Head through the doors to be greeted by big, genuine smiles and then be immersed in the beauty of the tea...room, a gilded jewellery box of a setting. This is where tea is served by that rarest of things, an exceptionally warm team who will tell you everything you need to need to know about the extensive menu and who will make you feel as royal as your surroundings. The wonderful pianist playing contemporary, jazz and classical music also adds to the upscale ambiance, and the feeling that you are in for a real treat… and what a treat! Cue the food. With this, at first, it’s all about perfectly executed sandwiches such as the traditional smoked salmon and the zingy curried chicken. The utterly charming Shomo was happy to bring more, but we were mindful of the sweet treats to come. Then it’s all about the freshly baked warm scones served with lashings of Cornish clotted cream, and preserves including the very original and delicately spiced Earl Grey tea jelly. This lovely second preserve is always really appreciated. Delicate patisseries complete the culinary experience, they each have their perfect place be it sweet, fruity, delicate or truly decadent. For me, the Milk Chocolate Rocher just edged it. Finally, I would like to thank the whole team and especially Shomo, Luigi and Emerson (Emi) for making my Mum’s birthday celebration such a happy occasion. Shomo ensured we had lots of different teas to try and his suggestions for tea pairings were new and totally enjoyable. He also kindly took lots of photographs for us. Special thanks also to Luigi for always taking the time for a friendly chat, he even let me try out my Italian on him and he gave each of us a box of delights to enjoy at home. In fact the generosity of the team seems to come from the heart and we are already planning our next visit to our favourite afternoon tea spot. We were, for the fourth time, made to feel as royal as the opulent surroundings. Thank you so much and see you soon.More
