As we now live in Singapore, we do not often get a chance to dine in London. But when we were younger and living there, Soho was our second home (in those days Bayswater was only just developing). So on a short trip to London we thought we would allow the kids to see how good Chinese food in the... More

Ideal place if you want to try dim sum, not to mention the great location in the centre of London. As for prices, we ordered 7 items for two of us, and the bill was about for £27.50

Full of chinese families - a good sign . We d been looking for a replacement haunt since Mr Kong in Lisle street closed a while ago . This is it . We too got ordered upstairs - but its nice enough . Took my 13 year old daughter , so we weren't very adventurous with the dishes . Everything... More

After being ordered upstairs by the lady at the entrance, service was OKish. Had the fried noodles with pork but it was so oily that I only managed to eat about half of it. Prices are on par with most similar Chinese restaurants in the area. Keep in mind that there is a service charge on top of the menu... More

In general, London's Chinatown does not have a great reputation for good Chinese restaurants. Joy King Lau is a reasonable choice. The restaurant is unglamorous and lacks ambiance (oddly the artwork is Japanese), but the menu is extensive and, on my visit, the food was quite satisfying and pricing was fair for the location.

the JKL is a regular stop when visiting London and has a good and varied choice of dim sum. the restaurant has several floors and service can be a bit erratic when its busy- which it is. get there early (by Midday) to avoid queuing, although the queue does move quickly

Never have we had to walk out of a restaurant before. As an ex-waitress I am usually very tolerant. Firstly, we were sat in a doorway which was freezing. I noticed initially that customer service wasn't top of their priorities, but if the food's good that doesn't always bother me. Secondly we had to chase up the drinks that did... More

We got there right on 12 which was a good idea as there ended up being a queue right down the stairs and out the door to the street. Service was a bit erratic - but they were incredibly busy and I don't know a dim sum place that isn't in London. Don't go there expecting silver service because you... More

Staying in Soho

Neighbourhood Profile
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
