Arrived at 5-30 for a three course pre theatre dinner. Basement a bit dull but the waitress was friendly, service throughout was timely and the food was very good. In particular the lamb shoulder was tender and tasty. House wine very drinkable. Plenty of time...More

The surroundings (a basement with a very high ceiling) are well designed and there is plenty of space between tables. Aperitifs were very expensive, but the cheapest red wine (South African) was good value. When I start my evening meal at 5.45, I don't want...More

we booked this in conjuntion with a visit to the theatre. The restaurant was very quiet, I suspect as not many shows on a Sunday evening. Waiting staff were very attentive and the food very nice. Lovely warm rolls to start with and good quality,...More

Came here for a business lunch and very mixed. Really has no wow factor or ambiance, you could be anywhere. It's hard when the restaurant is effectively in the basement of the building which this one is and to be fair its relatively bright but...More

The basement space is well designed and makes good use of its high ceilings to make some dramatic statements. We ate a la carte. The food had occasional highlights, eg the seafood bisque, but the mains were rather perfunctorily put together, and the dessert distinctly...More

We visited Axis for dinner on a pretty quiet Thursday evening. We decided to visit Axis to take advantage of the excellent special offer: 3 courses, glass of Champagne and carafe of wine for £60 per couple. My first thought was that the restaurant felt...More

Description
Axis at One Aldwych is back with a fabulous new menu from Executive Chef, Dominic Teague. The striking restaurant with its Covent Garden location is ideal for those seeking great food and good conversation, far removed from the buzz outside. The new Axis menu focuses on seasonal ingredients and embraces the best of British, including foraged foods such as delicate sea purslane and wood sorrel. The Modern British menu offers all of this in abundance, not forgetting a list of exciting artisanal cheeses.Stand-out dishes include a starter of 'Pan fried and tartare of mackerel, watercress and warm shellfish vinaigrette' and a main course of 'Highland venison loin rolled in mustard and soft herbs, braised shoulder and celeriac'.Desserts are not to be missed - you'll be torn between 'Savarin of citrus fruits and rosehip sorbet' and 'Scottish honey parfait with preserved figs'. With its enviable Theatreland location and a fixed price menu reflective of the style of the à la carte menu, Axis is the perfect spot for a bite to eat before the performance.
