About
Formally opened by Luciano Pavarotti in 1996, Caravaggio was created in homage to a key genius of the Italian Renaissance, serving a menu that brings together dishes from various regions of Italy and its islands. Inside a former bank, all that remains of the original interior is the ornate high ceiling, with its splendid Art Deco light fittings. A gallery runs around the room at mezzanine level, providing a second tier of tables. A long, marble topped bar by the entrance provides a convenient holding area for what is, at lunch times, a very busy dining room.

Lovely Italian food served in an elegant setting. Surprisingly inexpensive for the City. Service was friendly and efficient. Visited for dinner on a relatively quiet Monday evening and suspect it is the sort of place which would be quite noisy if full.

We could not fault our 1st visit here. The service was wonderful (ok, we were the only ones here that day so wouldn't expect anything else) and the food fantastic. I would've liked more of the star anise jus with my duck but only because...it was so yummy.More

We wanted a nice please to have a lunch, catch up and eat some good food, and chose Caravaggio as we’d been before. It’s quite a formal restaurant and generally plenty of city types in suits in there, even on a Friday. Service is good...and the food is always nice, and if you like wine they have some good accompanying choices. We had a shared started of carpaccio beetroot and goat cheese which was nice and salty, and then a steak and cod dish. All the food was well cooked and nicely presented. Desserts were very nice and recommended!More

I like this restaurant as it’s close to my office and Usually this is excellent but had a business lunch there last week and missed the mark on the food side as my guests fish was over cooked. He did ask for medium rare and...it arrived very much medium. Restaurant was busy but by the time the waiter got to ask as to how the meal was we had both started the meal and would not have had the time to send back his plate (and then mine as well as was not going to eat while my guest was waiting for food). My pasta was good. Table location by the window was great, ambiance also enjoyable. City prices as you would expect.More

Appreciate the comment usually excellent but regret that this time we seem to have overcooked his guests fish. Fish should never be overcooked and normally the only request for cooking times is with tuna. Shame that we did not know at the time. Apologies

Popped in at lunchtime and had a nice bit of fish and splash of red. Soon filled up with men in suits and ridiculous ties. Was expecting a few of Caravaggio’s paintings on the wall but it wasn’t to be.

Went to this restaurant with work colleagues and clients on a quiet evening (Monday night) so it wasn't packed. The staff were lovely and attentive (not overly though, which is good) the meal was absolutely great. I had the Parmesan basket to start (delicious) the...Veal with Risotto as main (fell to bits, delicious) and the Frangipan/Pear tart with ice cream for dessert - now I am not a big dessert person, but I do like a nice Frangipan - this was absolutely the nicest one I have ever had, I was stuffed but I HAD to finish it, it was just beautiful.More

Three of us lunched at Caravaggio today. I have been going to this restaurant for 25 years and always thought it very expensive. Today, however, they surpassed themselves! Two of us ordered Gravadlax as a starter and were both stunned by the size of the...portion. We received two squares each of about 2 inches on pumpernickel. In any other restaurant I have ever been to one is given decent slices. As we were guests we did not feel it appropriate to complain but frankly it was a disgrace. The main course of cod was acceptable. The service was ok but very slow. All in all a disappointing visit.More

Had some relatives in town and arranged dinner here as they were staying nearby and we work in the area. The restaurant handled the booking in a professional manner and were accommodating to the two children in the party. I enjoyed the tuna steak although...the portion size was smaller than expected. The tiramisu I had for desert was delicious..More

We went for a business lunch, and although the starters came quite quickly, we waited for the main afterwards for more than an hour and asked about it twice. The food when finally arrived was lukewarm and was mediocre at best. Tasteless and unseasoned and...quite pricey.More
