Daquise is a somewhat unique place to have a meal. The decor is basic, but that is in keeping with its many pictorial references back to WW II and the post war years when spies and others frequented this somewhat local restaurant near the So Ken tube station. The food is enjoyable and presented by pleasant staff. We find it... More

This was our first Polish restaurant, and we had no idea what to expect other than the 4.5 star rating on google maps. To cut to the chase: I had the goat cheese salad for starters and it was the best salad I have ever had anywhere, and I should mention that salad is my favorite food group. My wife... More

Had a long lunch with 3 friends of mine. All the food that we had was absolutely fabulous. I love the idea of chef coming out from the kitchen to serve you freshly cooked meal personally. All the waiting staff and the manager were very kind, professional and attentive. I'm definitely gonna come back.

My Polish friend invited me to take lunch at this restaurant - I was not disappointed, The atmosphere of the place was great - tulips on every table and white tablecloth - pity about the paper napkins. We both tried the traditional soup and I followed with a beef stroganoff - really tasty. . I think there was a special... More

Polish restaurant with many different dishes to choose from. The staff is nice and helpful, and for some dishes the cook comes out and puts the food on your plate directly from the oan, which is nice. The ambience is relaxed but sophisticated, the food itself is OK but not amazing, and tends to be quite heavy.

Unfortunately, the food was very salty and bland. Had high hopes for it, specially as the service was really good.

Daquise is close to South Kensington station and is a Polish restaurant dating from 1947. The staff are all Polish and with an excellent modestly priced English and Polish menu. The manager and staff love to talk about their homeland and the history of the restaurant where Profumo would meet Christine Keeler, a meeting place for Soviet spies in the... More

Forget healthy eating when you enter this delightful slice of old Poland in Kensington. Solid portions of liver, venison, sour cream, pancakes, pork, sausage, potatoes, goose, beetroot soup – for Polish refugees from the Nazis and Soviets in 1939, the priority was feeding up rather than slimming down. The decor and the ageing photographs of Churchill, Montgomery and the like... More

Wonderful meal. It as you might expect heavy food. Thoroughly enjoyed and thoroughly stuffed. Wet traditional environment and staff with old fashion ambiance. Definitely a great stop. Service was good but a little slow!

The rather unimpressive exterior, board floors and shabby looking décor full of old pictures brings memories of an older time - the yesteryears of wartime Europe. The service was swift, the tablecloth pristine and the menu - of traditional Polish food - didn't try to dress anything up with hyperbole but just said what it was. The meal that arrived... More

Staying in South Kensington

Neighbourhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
