We went to the L'Escargot 'Good France' event last night, and had an extremely enjoyable evening with a 5-course meal complete with a selected wine to accompany each course. Naturally one of the early courses included the signature 'l'escargot', and the fourth course was a beautiful 'boeuf en croûte' - delicious! It was also good to meet Brian, George and... More

Was told by a few friends that I should try this place so I went with my family for dinner on our last night in London. We were seated in a corner cozy seat , near the window. The service was not that great at all! was left seated waiting for over 20 min for drink order and the meal... More

We love chateaubriand and so whenever there is a good deal, we are there We had an early evening booking, 5:15pm, and there were already people dining when we arrived Most of our fellow diners were eating French onion soup, which smelled divine, followed by plaice goujons and frites, part of the pre-theatre menu, we later discovered But we were there... We had dinner at L'Escargot yesterday. It's the third or fourth time we've been and it never disappoints. The welcome is friendly and the service very good indeed. We were a little early and waited in the bar on the second floor which is fab - spacious and low lit with comfy sofas. Not cheap, but you wouldn't expect it... More

We booked L'Escargot as it was close to the theatre we were going to. The pre-theatre dinner menu had something for our group and the food was well cooked and the staff were attentive and ensured we left on time for the theatre.

If you can try and get a table in the front room by the window. A view of Greek street is always fun and you get a good view of the restaurant too. Love the atmosphere and the staff were friendly and had a good knowledge of the menu. As the name suggests, you wouldn't be disappointed by choosing escargots... More

My girlfriend and I booked a table for valentines! We were greeted politely upon entering and taken to our seats. Lovely table by the window and the service I expected was delivered to a very high degree. Food was delicious, hats off to the chefs this 3 star review has not been hindered by their incredible ability to cook flavoursome... More

We had a table for two in the "front room". With the roaring fire and intimate atmosphere it's like eating in a cosy French salon. The staff were nicely attentive, the avocado, spinach and pommegranate salad starter was great - as was the fresh fish main course. It's definitely a venue for a special occasion or treat.

The atmosphere in L'Escargot is very pleasant. A black, red and light blue interior and the furniture (as well as the fire burning in the hearth) make for very comfortable and cosy chic settings. Particularly good for a meal with a good friend or couples. The food is excellent. The snails are a specialty and live up to their reputation.... More

First impression walking in was wow! Lovely, atmospheric , welcoming and cosy, loved the very French decor. We were welcomed by lovely waiters. Throughout whole of our time there the service excellent. I had Escargot, my daughters had foie gras terrine and pan fried foie gras with puy lentils. For mains we had chateaubriand, oh my word! Amazing.

Thank Margaret L

L'Escargot is the oldest French restaurant in London. However, as a Soho legend, it is very much up to date. Relaxed atmosphere, good food and wine, all reasonably priced. There is no dress code (nudity discouraged !). L'Escargot has been host to stars of stage and screen for many years. Previous clients include, Coco Chanel, John Giulgud, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Ralph Richardson, Judy Dench, and the late Princess Diana. Pre-theatre and post theatre dining is popular and theatre and dinner packages are available. You may just pop in for one course and a cocktail or glass of wine - we look forward to welcoming you.

Staying in Soho

Neighbourhood Profile
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
