This is an expensive restaurant, and as such the review is going to be more critical as the expectations were higher. We arrived and were greeted and shown to our table. The first thing to note is the wooden chair is very uncomfortable. I actually...envied my wife sitting on the padded bench seating. We ordered the wine which was nice enough. The menu is small and the starters are cold so the expectations were that they would come out quickly. They took longer to appear than expected, and were disappointing. I had the terrine. The terrine itself lacked cohesion and the flavours were overpowered by the flavoured cream in the centre. It featured burned crackling and bits of cherry tomato. All presentation and poor execution. The main was the venison Wellington. This had good flavour but the pastry was wet and mushy and generally unpleasant. When our plates were taken I was asked about the food and explained about the unpleasant pastry. The waiter simply said he was surprised as it was one of the best sellers. I appreciate that. You only find out how bad it is after you order it and attempt to consume it. No attempt was made at rectifying the issue. After we paid the bill we were offered a scoop of ice cream as a sweetener. Having paid over £130 for some pretty ropey food (2 starters 2 mains and a bottle of wine)I didn't think that was much of a gesture. Seriously, you can do better than that. Apparently the Wellington is the signature dish. Time to learn to cook it properly then. I mean really, you should be embarrassed. This restaurant promised so much, but delivered so little.More

From the outside it looks like a gastropub, but in fact it's a proper restaurant, serving what I would call contemporary British cuisine. Tried the Scotch egg, venison wellington and the cheesecake, and all were very interesting interpretations of the classics. Looking forward to visit...for Sunday roast, I've heard it's fabulous.More

The waiters were really friendly and the atmosphere was really nice. They have a small Menu and food is good. The pub has a good vibe. If you’re looking for something simple and good this is the place for you.

What a great restaurant. Lovely food (took ages to choose - whole menu looked lovely). Staff were super friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The photos don't really do it justice. A great location near Southwark station - and tastefully decorated.

Delicious food which was of quality size and standard! Lovely atmosphere. Perfect for a date, special occasion, business or a night with friends. Service was spot on, attentive but not overbearing. Must try the cocktails, we even got a complimentary one when we arrived!

Wonderful meal, friendly staff, what’s not to like! We visited on Saturday night. We had starters (scallop & crayfish scotch egg / pork terrine), mains (Sea bass / slow roasted chicken), and shared a desert (white chocolate ice cream and an XO cafe liqueur). With...an extra cafe liqueur, the bill came to just under £100 with service included. Nice little touches - the complimentary bread rolls, and summer treat, ‘Hugo’ cocktails. The restaurant was clean, tables spaced out, and the ambiance was great. We’ll definitely return. Thank you Laughing Gravy!More

Absolutely fantastic meal. We arrived on the first night of our break down to London. Found it on trip advisor and it did not disappoint. A new bar creation cocktail was free on arrival and it was lovely! The meal was fantastic, we had the...Sunday roast and couldn’t have asked for a better meal. The drinks that we ordered were presented well and they were brilliant. The finishing touch was as we were requesting the bill, the staff had organised a surprise sharer dessert for us due to our engagement. Small touches like this make a break and was very much appreciated! We definitely will be back and will be telling all our friends to visit! Thanks for the fantastic meal and outstanding service!More

Sorry about the lateness of this response, only just seen it. This place is without doubt a romantic restaurant. The staff is fairly unobtrusive and you can disappear into your own bubble very easily.
