Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

1. Poppadoms tasted of stale fat. 2. Pickle tray was three types of coloured sugar syrup, apart from chopped onions mixed with yellow and brown coriander leaves. 3. Only two very thin lamb chops for starters. 4. Lamb special curry was salty and greasy with...finely chopped meat, the texture of a toddler’s meal. 5. King prawn balti had a maximum of four prawns (similar ones can be bought in Aldi, £5 for 20) again each one cut up small. 6. The service was slow despite the restaurant being less than half full on an early Saturday evening. Staff were disinterested. If I wasn’t tired hungry and with two young children in tow, I would have left after the first mouthful.More

Food was amazing and we benefitted from an ‘early evening’ deal. All staff were fantastic and courteous and looked after us well. Only downside was they definitely kept us in there far longer than necessary to attempt to show that they were busy.

Had a really nice meal here served by the wonderful Ahmed. The lamb and chicken were both tender and very flavourful. The atmosphere was also great! Would recommend!!

I was thoroughly disappointed with my visit today at the standard . While the cuisine itself was rather delightful, the manager's discourteous and brusque demeanour significantly marred the dining experience. Despite travelling a considerable distance to enjoy what I hoped would be a lovely meal,...I was met with rudeness that left a rather unpleasant taste. Such a pity, as the food truly did not deserve to be overshadowed by such poor hospitality.More

The restaurant was busy and lively and we had a great window table. The staff were welcoming and friendly, in particular Ahmed. The food was very good and there were dishes on the menu we had not seen before. The discount offer we booked under...was applied without question.More

I recently dined at this Indian restaurant, and while there were some positive aspects, the overall experience left much to be desired. To start with the positives, the staff was very friendly and the restaurant itself had a pleasant ambiance. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweighed...the positives. One of the most glaring issues was the cleanliness of the bathrooms. They were in a deplorable state, which was quite off-putting. The food was another letdown. First and foremost, the prices were on the higher side, and to make matters worse, we had to order rice separately, which is uncommon in most Indian restaurants. The poppadoms we received were unusual, unlike anything I've encountered before, and not in a good way. They simply didn't taste right. While the naan bread was fresh, it failed to impress when it came to flavor. What's worse, one of the naans was undercooked, which was a big disappointment. Moreover, the spice level was completely off. I had ordered a spicy dish, but the food was not spicy at all, and this added to the disappointment. To make matters even worse, the main course only consisted of seven small pieces of chicken, and to top it off, the chicken was incredibly tough and hard to chew. It was far from the tender and succulent meat that one expects in Indian cuisine. As someone who has frequented Indian restaurants all around the world, I must say that this particular establishment stands out as the most disappointing experience I've had, especially given its high rating. It's truly a shame that the promising exterior did not match the quality of the food and overall experience.More

We were treated like royalty by the personable Ahmed. A round of drinks on the house got us underway along with some poppadoms. We ordered a range of dishes from the comprehensive menu. All were excellent. The quality of the produce was top notch and...the range of flavours stunning. We ( 4 of us ) will be back!More

Going to The Standard is our go-to spot when we meet up with our old school buddies. Every time we walk in, the staff is super friendly and takes great care of us. The food is not just tasty; it comes out piping hot and...full of flavor, which makes the whole experience even better. The service is top-notch, and the place has a cozy, inviting vibe. It’s like finding a little treasure right in the middle of Brick Lane, and it always makes our get-togethers extra fun.More

I first visited Standard Balti House in 2005, and while I lived in London it was my favourite curry restaurant. I recently visited London (from Australia) and made a point to go back and eat there. I was not disappointed by the food, and was...delighted that my favourite dish - the lamb bhuna - tasted as divine as I remember it. The portions are always generous and the staff are always charming and attentive (Ahmed was our waitperson that night). I highly recommend this Brick Lane institution to anyone who enjoys a traditional curry.More
