Unless you plan to spend a few hundreds or even thousands of £ on one of the wine bottles they have, forget about getting a decent service. As soon as you have chosen the wine, and if its not one of those, you become invisible to the waiters. Food will take a long time to arrive and service will be... More

Tamarind is fantastic! We loved our leisurely dinner there. The food, the service, the atmosphere ... Perfection. We enjoyed some of the highest quality Indian food we have ever had anywhere on the planet. From the Papadum and Chutney to the house specialty cocktails to the Shai Dum Maachi the food was incredible. The service. So smooth and dignified we... More

I can only speak to the prawn curry but it was deeeeelicious! The waiters were knowledgeable about gluten which was nice. I'd go back there if I could afford it more often.

Top-notch service and cuisine. Nice range of sub-continent choices, e.g. curry vs tandoor etc. All the dishes we had authentically spiced and prepared. Dining room is below street level, so no windows.

In a city blessed with so many wonderful restaurants, this classy establishment is in the elite of premiership Indian fine diners. A lovely meal with impeccable service. You get what you pay for [ie expensive], but frankly if you want the best Indian meal in London then go here, Chutney Mary's or Veereswamys

Sunday lunch at the Tamarind is quite a busy affair, so it is best to book. The large dining room is quite opulent with its golden pillars and beautifully laid tables. They offer a very good 3 course set lunch which, with 2 glasses of wine, was GBP42 pp plus service in November (cheaper during the week). Not bad for... More

While staying at the Chesterfield Mayfair, we'd requested Indian food in our area. The immediate recommendation... the Tamarind, which is located right around the corner. The front host station is actually on the ground floor, in which you descend into the lower restaurant level. While busy, they were able to seat us immediately, and at a great table. My wife... Booked this restaurant for our anniversary and what a treat it was. Table was a little disappointing as I could not face my husband opposite but granted it was busy. Very attentive staff, service was excellent and I highly appreciated that. Food was nice, wish there was a little bit more as it was tasty. I ordered the scallops as... More

My family & I visited this restaurant for a treat. My daughters are very fussy and we're not keen on an Indian really but my husband persuaded them to try it after a day of shopping. How pleasantly surprised we were. The staff were very welcoming and happy to explain anything on the menu. My daughters found plenty to choose... More

We went to Tamarind as a couple to celebrate our anniversary, and was my first experience of a Michelin star restaurant. The service provided at the door to take our coats was brilliant and the service throughout the night was first class. The vibe in the air was like something out of a Bond film and the food was top... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighbourhood Profile
Mayfair
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
