We usually dine at Wiltons when we are in town as we enjoy the great food, service and atmosphere. There are plenty of lovely staff serving you who are friendly and helpful. There is a very extensive wine list. This time we enjoyed salmon ceviche( a new dish on their menu), marinated salmon with dill & mustard sauce( delicious|) for starters, plus we shared a stilton souffle-a must for blue cheese lovers! For drinks we had an excellent whisky sour and a delightful Chablis to start, the we enjoyed a bottle of Morgon-one of our favourites. Your wine glass is kept topped up for you-you do not need to ask, such is the service in this restaurant. For mains I enjoyed lambs kidneys with bacon where English mustard is served to you from a sauce boat!! My partner had the fried cod with crab sauce, though she found the sauce a little too strong. We finished our meal with a couple of espressos. I recommend this restaurant very highly indeed -we will be back soon!

Pre-Christmas lunch. These is a very good value prix-fix menu but we ended up going a la carte resulting in a £300 tab including a cocktail, couple glasses of wine & three courses, including langoustine starter. Impeccable service. Crowd was well heeled and, I sense, at least three quarters were regulars but we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. Will return - much to bank manager's chagrin....

We like this restaurant, where the service and ambience has an old-fashioned feel that we miss in so many modern restaurants. The food that we ordered was good, though the fish could have been cooked less. The wine waiter was obsequious and a little too pushy. I should have been tougher with him and not accepted his choice of wine that was too expensive for my pocket. For all that, we had a really nice evening with a good friend from overseas.

I wanted a special evening for a delightful and overworked professional musician, mother, and country girl, all too much of whose life is rush, rush. We were welcomed, led to a quiet table and served with benevolence and quiet discretion. The sommelier's advice on wines was not pushy, and the oysters came in perfection, the monkfish was easy to digest and the pork crackling a great experience, as were the desserts. We went away charmed and so so happy.

A restaurant dating from 1742 could be stuffy and old fashioned yet Wiltons is not. They offer simple excellent cooking with unobtrusive yet friendly service. Every need is anticipated by the well trained staff and even our cheap deal January meal was treated with a sense of occasion. We loved the place and it was nice to partake of a bit of London history on the beautiful Jermyn Street

I thought that I had experienced the true meaning of the word ‘perfection’ of all the senses but our dinner at Wilton’s was indeed its true definition: from the smiles of the staff and their genuine care, to their spotless professionalism and to every single ingredient- It was a pure paradise of tastes, a journey of bliss! The soufflé, suggestion of the head-waiter was out of this world. My husband and I looked at each other in awe, wondering how someone could prepare such a divine dish! The dover sole... oh no words can describe the quality and quantity!!! And regardless of the fact that we were full, when we tried the coconut sorbet, the salted caramel and the vanilla, we vowed to visit this place every single time we are in London!!! The people, the place, the cleanliness and the overall experience place this restaurant at the very too of my favourite places around the world!

The entrance to the restaurant belies what you walk into behind the front door. An elegant peaceful restaurant with staff to match, well dressed and very amenable. We visited (four of us) at lunchtime, the menu was excellent with a variety of dishes to cover all tastes. There were also some specials and three of us were tempted by the freshly delivered Scottish langoustines, what we were not told but equally we failed to ask, was the price, which if we had, we would probably have chosen something else from the menu. Moving on all the food was excellent, well presented, served hot, and was extremely tasty, a variety of fish dishes and a steak dish, the plates all went back to the kitchen empty. The staff kept the water and wine glasses topped up without asking, and sufficient time was allowed between courses. At the end of the meal a waiter came around offering a very fine cognac and one of our party was tempted. Again, a mistake he did not ask the price, when the bill arrived it was £200 for the cognac. The head waiter heard us discussing this and without hesitation he made an acceptable adjustment to the bill, as the waiter serving the brandy should have told us the price before serving us. Yes, it was an expensive lunch but it was a special occasion and we all enjoyed the food and wine, and we will return.

Dear Peter R Thank you for you lovely review. The Langoustine arrive alive from Scotland in the morning and are cooked fresh each morning, they are not the cheapest dish on the menu but they are absolutely delicious. Perhaps on your next visit you may wish to try the Cornish crab, this is also cooked fresh each day and served with either a little mayonnaise or a spoonful of cocktail sauce. Michael S.

Wiltons sits comfortably among that upper echelon of classic London restaurants. Seated before my guest, I had time to enjoy my surroundings; the original art on the walls, the rattle of the carving trolley and the hum of conversation about matters of great import. My lunchtime fare was simple; my crab and avocado starter was very good, my main of grilled halibut was perfection. The service may be a little starchy and formal for some, but it’s lack of intrusiveness is refreshing and appreciated. A visit to this most established of establishments is a joy.

A rare 5-star review for one of the finest English restaurants in London. I was on a quest to prove to my son (who was brought up in France) that English food is good. And so to Wiltons for lunch on Monday. We decided to forgo starters but chose the Seasonal Menu, which includes the Carved Dish of the Day from the trolley. Fortunately it was Roast Lamb, one of our favorites. The lamb is carved in front of you, and it was delicious. It is served with your choice of vegetables and roast potatoes, all of which were very good. For dessert, he had White Chocolate and Passion Fruit Cheesecake and I had a very traditional Rhubarb and Apple Crumble. Both were exquisite. The service is just right: kind, attentive and helpful. All round, an excellent lunch. Wiltons deserves a return visit and I shall oblige.

This place is almost obsolete and the client base would appear to be mainly wealthy men of the "Grey Pound" brigade Spending like there's no tomorrow. My fellow diners were suited local businessmen, probably local Gallery owners The food was traditional, it's a fish based menu. Depending on what you chose, its doesn't have to be horrendously expensive What I ate was well cooked and service was good. Someone else mentioned the greeting upon arrival, Mine was mixed, there were 3 people on Reception, one smiled and 2 were indifferent as though I was being vetted.

We dined on a Tuesday evening and the place was full of very happy, well fed diners. Fantastic service and brilliant well cooked British style food. Although expensive I would recommend the cheese soufflé and the Dover Sole which was sublime. Can't wait to go back.

Wilton’s is perhaps my favourite restaurant in London for the sheer class of its service, comfort, ambience, wine and food. So it was with real excitement that I received an invitation to lunch on Wednesday 23 March from an old business friend in Yorkshire to mark my retirement. The excitement was further heightened by the food critic, William Sitwell’s piece in the Telegraph magazine supplement the previous Saturday. He particularly praised the “special” of the day served from the famous carving trolley which would be the finest Roast Beef on a Wednesday. We met just before 1.00pm, ordered a glass of champagne and looked at the menu. I chose the Marinated Salmon with Dill and Mustard Sauce for a starter and then (of course) the Roast Beef from the trolley which I had spied on my way to the table. My host and I were utterly astounded when the waiter said that was already finished. We queried this answer as we could see the magnificent beast being carved at another table. The Maitre D intervened and said it was finished as they already had reserved orders from other tables. So do people order before coming to the restaurant or order as they are led to their table? This was only 1.15pm. Surely the Wilton’s of old would not permit customers to be disappointed in this manner? We were not at all happy with this attitude and service – clearly William Sitwell was not treated in such a cavalier manner!! The salmon was wonderful and the flavour enhanced by the dill and mustard sauce.. Instead of roast beef. I tried the Mixed Grill medium rare with sausage, excellent black pudding, pink and juicy lamb cutlet, tender fillet and delicious lamb kidneys. All nicely cooked and presented but, honestly, Mr Wilton, not a proper substitute for the roast beef from the trolley. A bottle of premier cru Chablis was a lovely choice. Crisp and fruity with just a hint of honey.

Dear Brian M Thank you for your review and apologies that we had sold out of roast beef when you visited. There are times when certain items on the menu prove very popular and dispite the chef's best efforts at ordering we do sell out. We hope that on your next visit we will be able to offer you the full menu, however, if you are visiting for any particular dish please let us know and we will ensure you are not disapointed. My husband has wanted to dine at Wiltons for twenty years, tonight he finally did and lucky for me as I got to be his dinner date :) . 'Service' doesn't really define the front of house - all of the staff were absolutely professionally perfect and also really delightful, interacting with each table with an individually tailored and magical mix of consummate professionalism and real friendliness. They clearly take a great deal of pride in their roles and so they should. We had the tasting menu with matched wines which was excellent value for the quality and variety of the dishes. The atmosphere is quiet, high end and classy without being snooty but also surprisingly friendly - we ended up having a great and wide-ranging conversation with the three diners on the two adjacent tables to us. Could not recommend more highly for a special meal. We do not personally very regularly spend this kind of money on dinners out, this was a special treat for us, but we really felt it to be worth every penny and my husband is already looking forward to his next visit. Thank you so much to all at Wiltons!

It’s a bit surreal when you walk in and the waiters are dressed like “DOWNTON ABBEY” and the the ladies as maids. It takes you back into another world. The menu contains oysters, caviar, other diverse seafood, exquisite meats and yes “ the old carving trolley “. All executed, cooked and served in style and to absolute perfection. BRAVO!

St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.
