First class gin tasting experience

This was our first trip to London since the pandemic hit and we thoroughly enjoyed it Our hostess was Barbara, a charming and interesting young Italian lady.She took us through the tasting of 5 different gins, adding different fruits and tonics in order to illustrate the marked difference the infusions make to the drink We were seated in a booth for four with my wife and I on one side and Barbara on the other. The tasting lasted a little over 2 hours during which we not only improved our knowledge of gin but also of Italy Following the tasting we stayed for a burger from the Academy menu, and a bottle of Malbec which we also thoroughly enjoyed The evening was a great success and excellent value and we definitely recommend it, particularly if you are fortunate enough to have Barbara as your hostess

Beer master class

Came here for a beer master class including gourmet burger. Tasting was conducted by the manager who was extremely knowledgeable and a very nice chap. Beer was excellent with nice burgers. All in all a very nice afternoon.

Wednesday evening with Teresa.

We were served by Teresa, who kindly helped us to customise our food as we were unable to do so via the app. She went the extra mile (quite literally, as she was running around as apparently the restaurant was understaffed) and made sure along the way that everything went smoothly throughout our stay. Very lovely and smiling lady and we hope to see her again!

Not so much an 'experience'

We had booked the 'beer & food pairing' experience as it sounded really good ! To be honest ... not so much an 'experience You choose 3 dishes off the usual menu and they come with 3 matched 1/3 of beer .... yet they all come at the same time. So as each beer is specifically paired to a dish you are either finishing your first beer with your first dish while your other food goes cold or you are leaving your beer to go warm while you move onto your next dish and therefore your next beer. It would make much more sense if 1 dish and 1 beer was brought out at a time in a slower fashion. We had booked a 2 hour slot but it was over in a hour, felt like we rushed but the food was going cold. In reality we could have just walked in at any point and ordered food and asked which beers go with It ... and saved a lot of money as the dishes were 3 for 16.50 and the flight of beer 5.95. So could have easily just spent £20 each instead of the 35pp as the 'welcome beer' that we had before food was a standard lager as they had run out of the usual craft beer and the stout paired with dessert we had already tried as it was paired with one of the dishes. Wouldn't recommend doing the 'experience' as you could easily book a table for food, ask what goes good with the dishes and save a lot of money

Friendly Service

My husband and I visited here over the weekend whilst visiting family in London. Had the pub recommended due to the good selection of real ales. We were very well looked after by Lukas from the moment we arrived. He was very knowledgeable and recommended beers depending on our taste preferences. Our favourite being the Brewhouse stout which was served slightly chilled and to our liking. Lukas was very attentive all evening, making sure we were not without drinks. Would recommend. Great drinks, great service!

New Years Eve dinner

There were six of us looking for a place to eat dinner early on New Years Eve that wasn't going to be crowded. This was the place as we almost had it to ourselves and the DJ spinning tunes. Great beer menu with very knowledgeable staff on beers they brew and others. Good pub food with a great buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. The three flight beer sampler was another good choice

Very Disappointing - NO Staff

God afternoon just to give you some feed back. We booked at table for 4 people at 4.00pm on Friday 3rd June, you obviously had severe issues with staff as we couldn’t get near to the bar to order food or drinks. The only way we could order something was through the app which took an age to complete as it clearly doesn’t work properly, we finally got our drinks which we had to search and find at the side of the bar. To say that the food was just thrown onto the plate would be complimenting its presentation! My question to you is; why did you continue to let people in when you had no possible way of serving them drinks never mind food? Absolutely appalling very disappointing.

I have investigated this and it appears we did not have a booking at 4pm on Friday 3rd June. I was working that day and I can confirm that trade was very slow and the bar could be easily accessed the whole day. I can confirm that our brewpub on Highbury Corner was very busy due to the Killers concert nearby. I have spoken to the General Manager of the site and have asked them to get in touch. Pretty Good all round

A small group of us ate here and sampled some of the beers...there is definitely a good and varied choice of beers here that should satisfy all. The food on the whole was pretty good. The chicken was massive, but the fish and chips had a relatively small piece of fish once the batter was removed. All in all - no complaints and would gladly return

Fantastic beers

We had a huge Sunday roast which was good but maybe a bit pricey. However, the reason might be we visited as tourists and we were not such big fans of roasts. The place looked nice and was friendly. The selection of beers is worth mentioning, especially those that are brewed there. It’s definitely something you should try.

this was fun and delicious. We are definitely going back. The beers were wonderful and perfectly matched. We had a vegan menu which was delicious .... especially the stout and the gorgeous chocolate mousse dessert. All the beers were very different

International Women’s Day

Thanks to B&K Islington for a fantastic event celebrating International Women’s Day by inviting women to take part in the beer making process & learn all about brewing! We had a great time including free food & drink (including beer of course). The day was led by Head Brewer Riaz who is clearly very knowledgeable & passionate about his role & he was supported by great bar staff too. All were very friendly & a lot of fun to be with which contributed to such a great day. It was good to see local MP Emily Thornberry getting involved as well as lots of young women showing such an interest in beer. Big thumbs up to B&K for supporting IWD in such an innovative way!

own microbrewery and pub grub

This one has its own microbrewery so the craft beers were unique in itself. I had the Legend lager and an IPA version which was fresh and tasty (yes you can actually say that for these type of beers). For food, we ordered the traditional fish (cod) and chips, double cheese burgers and the like. Good seating and environment. (Not sure they showed EPL games here).

Go for the beers / fun times but don’t stay for the food

Had a good experience with friends for drinks one evening. Good selection of beers on tap, bottles and cans. Staff are great fun and engaging. Only issue is that we ordered a number of food items and these were pretty poor for a pub that holds itself out for its kitchen.

Excellent burger and a pint with great service!

I came on a Wednesday and had the £10.95 burger and a pint deal. I am quite fussy about beer and had my questions ably answered by Sara, who was attentive and helpful, beyond what I would expect. The burger was truly exceptional and the Tropical IPA they brew themselves was decent too. A proper bargain that was made even more enjoyable by the exceptional service of Sara.

Very handy for Sadler’s Wells

We chose this place due to its proximity to Sadler’s Wells - it’s a five minute walk. For starters we both had the prawns which were fab, but I was underwhelmed by the dry salad and dry bread accompaniment. A little sauce or a dip would work well. We were disappointed at the lack of chicken (not available) but were happy with our choices - fish & chips and Mac & Cheese. However the side salad consisted of about 20 leaves. I usually would expect at least a tomato. Service was excellent. Would definitely return not least because the choice of deserts is phenomenal!
