Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is brilliant. Outside it is covered in greenery and old pianos. Inside it has satin drapes everywhere and looks as if you are entering some ladies boudoir. Even the toilets are covered in murals. It has been designed so diners can sit on...private areas, we dined in our own balcony, quite separate to the other diners. We had the set menu, the food was delicious and plenty of it. They also do a pre theatre menu and à la carte. The menu is Turkish/mediterranean. Staff were attentive. This was my second visit and both have been an experience I wish to repeat.More

We were with close friends for a rare night out. The decor is amazing, food was ok, but after waiting for over 40 minutes for the mains to arrive, we were harshly told by a waitress that we had to leave the table in 20...minutes. While waiting for our mains we had ordered a second bottle of champagne and we really didn’t prefer to rush through our mains and drinks, so after being treated so badly by that waitress where she basically told us off, we asked to see her manager. The manager came across extremely defensive, didn’t believe that we had been waiting for our mains for so long and said he will check the CCTV! I am not sure if he did check it in the end or if it was just a threat, but I hope he did which would have proved us right. He never came back to our table. You really don’t go out to a restaurant to be treated as such. They didn’t apologise for treating their paying customers so badly. There are so many nice restaurants in London where you get your money’s worth, we could not recommend this place to anyone unfortunately.More

A lovely greeting, given a choice of table and good service throughout. Very tacky surroundings but that seems to be the point. The music was not really our thing but did make for a more special evening. Although not big eaters we found the portions...to be fairly meagre and really didn’t like the abrupt way the place was closed.More

Came here for my sister’s graduation meal. Very quirky restaurant with friendly waiters and especially great service by Francesco. The ‘pre theatre’ menu was good value at £25 per person for 2 courses. Both the salmon and lamb shank were very tasty, though not very...generous on the vegetables.More

Enjoyed a (very) nice glass, or two, of wine and a small starter selection, for an early evening out. Francesco was a Saint, who warmly received us and catered to our little few needs, with gusto and aplomb.

I have been to Sarastro once before, many years ago, and have intended to go back for a long time. I went for a double celebration of my birthday and my son's birthday with my wife and his girlfriend. We had a great experience: excellent...food, nice wine, the décor is amazing obviously. Francesco made the experience very special for us with him cheerful banter, great advice on food and drink and even singing 'Happy Birthday' for us! I won't leave it so long for the next visit!More

We had a wonderful evening in this unique and quirky restaurant. The staff are welcoming, very helpful and courteous. Francesco, who took our order was extremely helpful in his recommendations and the food and wine were excellent. The menu is described as Turkish / Mediterranean...but also has a few unique twists on the theme. We had white fish as a main, baked halibut and pan fried hake. It was cooked to perfection and the garnish flavoured the meal perfectly. The ambience is excellent in this opera themed restaurant with a hint of 18th century bordello, private booths for a romantic evening that resemble miniature private boxes of the world famous Theatre Royal opposite. Altogether a great venue that suits Covent Garden and theatre land to a tee.More

The ambiance of the restaurant was delightful, the artwork was thought provoking and in parts of the restaurant explicit but great as a conversation starter (be warned - in the bathrooms). The food was tasty and reasonably priced for the area. This would ordinarily warrant...at least a 4/5 star review, however what is responsible for lowering this further was the behaviour of our waiter Francesco. He was actually incredibly rude throughout the night, making all members of the party uncomfortable. He shushed a party member trying to ask him questions at the outset, then again another lady in our party when she attempted to make her food order because he wanted to take the order his way so that he could make puns and jokes to be the centre of attention. He loudly and quite rudely claimed that we would be liable to pay for an eighth member of the group who did not come despite us bringing two additional and paying guests to the table. This was publically stated and in quite an accusatory fashion. He disputed a drink order and practically accused me of lying, refusing to take the drink away and making us pay for it. He then came to the table and when he didn’t get a beaming smile from the woman in our group he had already been rude to, he then confrontationally asked in front of the entire group what he had done to upset her and if she had a problem with him, making her feel further uncomfortable. When she told him why, he began to argue with us. He wouldn’t leave us to check the bill over and then stood over us with his card machine before we even had a chance to review the bill. He thrust the machine into each of our faces shouting ‘Netflix’ at us - we have no idea why?!? He flounced in and out for most of the evening and asked on a number of occasions how his service was in quite a confrontational way. We did attempt to raise this quietly with the manager at the end of the evening, but even as we did this, he then came up to us and began to confront us again. He absolutely was not worth the 12.5% service charge! What a shame because honestly the restaurant and food were lovely but the whole group felt very let down and cross with him and it certainly impacted our enjoyment of the evening.More

Great food and a superb ambiance. Francesco looked after us royally - he couldn't have been more attentive. Pre-theatre menu, set menu or a la carte - good variety of choice and deliciously tasting food.

Last night we had a wonderful reunion at Sarastro for 23 friends who worked together over 20 years ago at the fashion company, 'Jeffrey Rogers'. We enjoyed a fabulous meal, followed by live music with the singer Colin Roy who performs there every Thursday evening....He is simply the best & got us all up dancing & singing the night away! Our special thanks to Chris who is front of house & organised our booking. Also to Paulo, the General Manager who greeted us warmly when we arrived & arranged our fab table in prime position, so we could all sit together. Mirez was our waitress for the evening & she looked after us very well, & even took some lovely photos for us. All in all, we had a great time & it was a special evening that we will all remember.More
