Great pub, just a shame it's inconvenient for the bar staff to serve customers. Service without a smile

A group of friends decided to try this pub for Sunday lunch having not been there for many years. Sadly all of our roasts were disappointing especially considering the prices. My friend‘s beef was very chewy and her carrots hard. The belly of pork was...quite nice but the crackling was inedible. There were only two choices for pudding so one would hope they would be good. Sadly not . For some reason the fruit crumble was served in a latte glass which made eating it rather difficult. We had to ask for them to be reheated they were just tepid. Sadly even heating it up couldn’t make it taste any better. A thoroughly disappointing lunch but in fairness the staff were very attentive and good.More
This pub was chosen because we could have a traditional English roast to celebrate Mother's Day in Australia. The weather was pleasant and so we chose to eat in the garden. Frankly, the roast beef meal was just average. In particular, the beef was very...chewy, which was a great disappointment, given it wasn't a 'bargain basement' price. The Sunday roast is a highly competitive area in the UK, and this one left much room for improvement. We likely won't return next London visit.More
The service was OK - took a while to get anyone's attention. Main problem was the food. The Roasts were just not good for the price. My meat looked as though it had come straight off the cow and was so chewy, roast potatoes were...so dry and hard they'd obviously been precooked and not fresh. Just disappointing really, it is not hard to cook a roast with fabulous fresh veg and good meat, it's just lazy to turn this stuff out and pretend it's ok. Won't be going back.More
Food was terrible paid £22 for hard carrots... Watered down gravy and smash potato... Never in my life have I ever seen anything like it then they charge for a service charge what to be disappointed... Absolute horrible place
Despite its somewhat unprepossessing location on one of the busiest roads in Battersea, once inside it's a gem. My son and his family recently moved in close by, so we all trooped in (young children and all) for an early supper. Extremely friendly and affable...staff member (sorry didn't get name) was very accommodating in changing our table and took the drinks order. Excellent quality, well kept beer and the magnum of Coto de Imaz 2012 at £80 was great value. The food for the five of us was delivered in good time and at a good temperature (I'm very fussy about not having food served on cold plates). The overall quality was excellent and far exceeded my expectations - my artichoke and chestnut soup with a spoon of creme fraiche on top worth a particular mention. Whoever is in the kitchen is doing a great job. Absolutely nothing to fault and you could not want more from an unpretentious local pub serving considerate and well prepared food with friendly service to back it up. Definitely be back.More
Great atmosphere, good drinks selection and Rebecca was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely visit again.
One of my favourite London pubs! We recently moved into the area and stumbled in here one evening for a drink, as it does look like a bit of an old man’s boozer from the outside. What a pleasant surprise, although they have kept the...old pub feel this is much more of a restaurant. We returned with the family to have dinner and were really impressed. The drinks were great, the food was excellent and the service was great. A special shout out to their special the penne pasta with a spicy sausage ragu, I will definitely be coming back for another bowl of this!More
I've lived in Battersea for 15 years and used to go into this pub in the autumn and winter months as it was quite cosy. However I had a friend visiting and wanted to show her the pub as we were nearby and to get...an afternoon drink. While showing my friend the cubby hole down the stairs we had this exceptionally rude female member of staff (black bob) following us around, and I had to be really short with her and tell her I was showing a friend around. She then followed us outside and rolled her eyes when I said we would sit inside. I should have walked out then but we were parched. I'm sat here now listening to a male member of staff (possibly an Italian accent??)who is incredibly loud and keeps swearing chatting to a customer. I will never be coming back, what a disappointment!More
Quite nice Sunday roast. Thought we would give this place a try after trying most of the pubs in the local area and after hearing good things. Beef was great as was the pork, the gravy was a highlight. Yorkshire’s and potatoes not the best...but was a good meal with a good selection of beers!More
This pub has been our local for a while and we often enjoy popping in for a pint or two after work, we have eaten here previously and the food has always been tasty! Recently, however the quality of the food has gone downhill, they...have tried to pack a million flavours in each dish and it’s now very rich and verging on unappetising! The prices for mains are creeping up and verging on expensive for what they are providing, drinks are more expensive too. Our quick bite of two mains and two beers (one was a shandy) was £47! Overall disappointing, we will think twice about eating here again. Such a shame as we would love to support our local!More
The lady taking bookings was incredibly rude and kept hassling us despite us having a reservation and abiding by all Covid requirements. We were sat having drinks and she wouldn’t leave us alone, so much so we ended up leaving. I normally like the pub...but won’t be going back whilst she is still working there.More
From the second we walked in one member of staff run over to us, as we were carrying our son in a baby carrier we expected it to be bad news like most pubs. Instead we were told where they are available seats well, our...drinks order was taken from the table, and instantly given a jug of water with glasses. Luckily this is my local being only a 40 second walk away from home, but even if it wasn’t the service is so good I would be coming back more anyway. I have already introduced my friends and family to this pub, great beer selection, good food and a lovely country vibe!More
Perfect for a group of friends having a couple of drinks (well, a couple). Staff is great, prices are reasonable
Came back after many years and was happily surprised by the excellent service and great food - well worth a (re)visit
