Always a pleasure to eat at Kurumaya. The food is delicious and freshly prepared, and the service is always with a smile. Prices are reasonable for the location too.

Its more usually a lunchtime spot at the sushi conveyor belt. For evenings its in the basement in an unappealing bland and crowded room. Crowded with tables not people. Food was fine, ebi tempura a bit greasy but passable. Japanese is rarely cheap and this...was no exception, £16 for 6 prawns is a bit toppy especially as the environment was more cafe than fine dining. Better as a lunch snack place or takeaway. The plus was the charming waitress.More
Best sushi in town, everything was delicious - recommend the udon and Maki. Great dining experience and service. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and I would definitely come back again.
Fantastic sushi food for a quick family take away. The very kind owners even gave us a free box of sushi! Highly recommended.
We had made a booking here for dinner to celebrate my husbands birthday in one of his favourite Sushi restaurants. We arrived on time, to find the venue closed. There was someone cleaning up inside and he came out to apologise to us, and the...other customers who were also wondering what was going on. Birthday evening was trashed. Never again. Off the list for ever.More
So, if you look at all my reviews, you’ll see that we have been to Japan and eaten at nearly 15 different Japanese restaurants in London. This is very average. A lot of the food was over cooked and most of the sushi and sashimi...was so cold, and not fresh, it tasted it came out of the freezer and slapped on the plate. When I looked in the kitchen, he was definitely not from Japan or East Asian in any way... The gyozas were nice, and so was the ginger okra, however when the grilled eel is soggy, king crab leg is stale and the tuna lacked flavour, I think you can tell where this review is going. The city of London is crying out for an excellent Japanese restaurant, sorry to say that this is not it.More
Seems to be losing it's way a bit. Been twice recently. The choice on the upstairs conveyor wasn't great last time. And downstairs for a recent family meal was not bad for food but the service was really slow. I've been going for years but...it's slipping down my list of places to eat in the area as more competition arrivesMore
I have been to kurumaya many times both for takeaway and to sit down in the area downstairs. I have found the downstairs area to be much better in terms of quality (the other is still decent but downstairs is just better). I’m partial to...sushi and sashimi so that’s what I order and I’m yet to be disappointed. Generous cuts (proper Japanese sized instead of the anemic ones common in London) nice firm fresh sashimi, good eel. For a simple restaurant they have a vast selection of sake at a reasonable price. My pic shows the big sushi/sashimi platter.More
Walking down the stairs to a very grey nondescript small restaurant I must admit feeling a little concerned that we hadn't chosen well. The sight of so many Asian people however indicated that it couldn't be that bad! The tables where you have to remove...your shoes were also a welcome sign as was the very energetic and pleasant Brazilian waiter. I was disappointed not to have vegetarian ramen (they only have beef or chicken ramen) but the salmon sushi, snow crab rolls, black cod and vegetarian noodles with tofu were really very good.More
We went for lunch and were ignored for ages until we got up and grabbed a member of staff. Food came in a reasonable time and was ok. Hard to get any attention throughout. The mackerel was very nice. Will maybe try again but certainly...not the best Japanese by a long shot.More
The food is delicious but portions are small. Price is a bit up there but that's expected. Staff are friendly. If you love sushi and want to try something different (I tried sea urchin sashimi for the first time) would definitely recommend.
Great food! Great Service! Lovely relaxing ambience! Best sushi I’ve had in years! Well done! We will be back!
My wife and I visited for lunch and had a very decent meal, with helpful and friendly service. There was a good range of food, prepared in a visible kitchen. We will return.
This used to be one of the best Katsu Curries in the city but recently the Chicken Katsu Curry to take away has been luke warm at best... I would recommend Japanese Canteen over this, at least they get the food out the kitchen hot!
Great food and good service. Had their chirasha today and was amazing. Highly recommended if you are in the city of London and are looking for authentic Japanese food.
