I love Mexican food, and yet this is the first time in years I've come away from a Mexican restaurant thinking "wow!" Most of the time I come out thinking I could have done a better job at home.
The food here is excellent, tasting authentic and very fresh. I had the tacos with chicken & chorizo and jaladas, whilst my partner went for the enchiladas de mole. From the presentation to the taste it was all very impressive, and reasonably priced with these items + a bottle of wine + service charge coming to about £50.
The restaurant looked great too, however it is not that big which caused a few issues:
- Firstly, you should tell customers when they first sit down if you need the table back within 2 hours rather than waiting till the end and then repeatedly pestering them in the final 15 minutes.
- Secondly, if you do then move your customers then set them up a space at the bar first. Standing around awkwardly with half a bottle of wine whilst you wait for space to be cleared was not great.
- One toilet for a restaurant of this size isn't enough.
We'd have stayed for a cocktail if it wasn't for that last annoyance, but regardless, this is a very good restaurant and I'd return for the quality of the food alone.

Great food, if not a bit pricey, but authentic Mexican food is at a premium in London :)
Mateo was a friendly server and recommended some great mezcal. Tacos were tasty and were so much better than any of the counter service burrito places around town. Additionally, the tres leches was fantastic!

This restaurant is a 10-15 minute walk from Euston Station. The location doesn't look great but the decor, atmosphere, good food and great staff make this restaurant a real treat. We shared a starter and then had a main meal and dessert each and it worked out at about £25 each. As it was the main meal would have sufficed for lunch as it was very filling but we didn't want to miss the opportunity to try decent Mexican food. Lots of veggie ad vegan options which meant i was spoiled for choice.
As in the review title don't worry if you are unsure and have only come across TexMex or heavily spiced food, many of the items on the menu are unspiced but full of flavour.

My partner and I visited this restaurant when we could visit restaurants after the corona virus lockdown.
The food was absolutely lovely and at a decent price although the portions were very small, especially the rice.
2 mains, 2 desserts and a large glass of wine cost £39 ish.
However, do watch out for the secret service charge... 12.5% will be added to your bill without any warning.

We went here for a special birthday lunch and it was everything we booked for - the surroundings are lovely, earn and colourful, and it was great to be greeted by complimentary tortilla chips and salsa on the table.
The food here is authentic, varied and delicious. Beautifully presented and lots of great options for vegetarians. The Levanta Muertos beer was particularly impressive. We had the Crepas de cuitlacoche and enchiladas de mole, both filling and very tasty.
We were served by Maria who sorted everything with a smile.
We will definitely come back!

Sad, but not as good as it once was.. I have been a regular at Mestizo over the last 4 years and I feel the level/quality of food has gone down. The tortillas don’t taste if they were freshly made. The filete arriero was so bland, served cold and that’s never great with a nice cut of beef. The prices aren’t really cheap, so that makes it slightly more annoying.
I think they have some authentic dishes on the menu, but they don’t taste as authentic as they sound. I’m not sure if I’ll be returning anytime soon. Waiting for Ella Canta to open back up 🙏🏾

Having lived in Texas for many years and recently moved to the UK we were hankering real Mexican food, and not the usual Fajitas/ Nachos/ Burritos you get in many restaurants. Mestizo has them all Chicken Mole, Queso fundido con Chorizo, Chile Rellenos and many others we've yet to sample.
Service was great by our server Wendy who’s from Mexico. She gave us some great suggestions for some Mezcals that we'd not had before. They have the largest Tequila / Mezcal selection we have seen anywhere in London including our favourite sipping tequila Casa Azul Reposado..
Food was good, not overly generous portions, Ginger & Jalapeno Margaritas maybe could have been a bit stronger.
All in all we enjoyed ourselves and will be back.
Its recommended you make a booking as they do get busy..
A bonus is they have a Mexican grocery shop next door where you can pick up ingredients for Mexican recipe’s that otherwise you need to use the big global online retailer to get.

Hidden gem slightly off the beaten path. At mestizo you will get all your classic Mexican dishes which you know and love but you can also change it up and get interesting novel Mexican cuisine which you will not find at your chain/common Mexican restaurants. All the food was tasty and the manager looked after us a lot, the key is to strike up a good conversation about the food and make it clear that you are interested in trying out some new stuff.
Ps: enchiladas were the most popular dish of the day.
Cost approx £25pp without drinks if you go a la carte. The express lunch menu is far cheaper.

Mestizo has always been my to-go Mexican restaurant in London, so I was very upset after finding out it had to close during lockdown. After my most recent visit, I felt very safe due to the hygiene and precautions at Mestizo. Everyone was required to wear a mask when walking around the restaurant, there was hand sanitiser available and the cutlery came in its own packaging. I live with someone who is high risk for COVID-19, these precautions made me feel very comfortable to dine in and did not take away from the atmosphere that I have always enjoyed.

I went to have a dinner with my couple and the first thing that I saw was a rat around the restaurant.
The attention in the restaurant was horrible most of the waiters are impolite and they look like junkies.
When I get the food it was cold and the day after the eat the Panuchos I’ve got an stomachache illness.
I’m a mexican guy an this restaurant is an AFFRONT for my nation. If you want to taste Mexican food that’s not the indicated place.
Para terminar un saludo a todos mis compatriotas mejicanos, por favor NO VENGAN ACÁ

Mestizo never disappoints, I have been visiting this Mexican (yes, Mexican not Tex-Mex) for a number of years and I dont get tired of it. Food and drinks are superb, but its customer service under the stewardship of lovely Marisol is outstanding. In my last visit, there was a new member of staff, Renata, who personalised the service offered by recommending dishes and drinks. Renata is a great addition to the existing nice staff members that makes mestizo the best Mexican restaurant in London.

I went last Sunday to celebrate my partner’s birthday with a couple of friends, we were pretty exited for what I’ve heard it was a “pretty good brunch”.
The woman at the host computer wasn’t the most friendly/welcoming person in the world, when I mentioned that I’d had reduced my booking a couple of days ago via WhatsApp (a service they offer to book) she literally roll her eyes and made an annoyed expression in front of us, she DIDN’T EVEN CARE to turned herself around to do it, so we wouldn’t see her.
We went to the downstairs area, where there was only a waiter to cover it all. We weren’t served for a long time, sauces for the tacos came when we already finished them, the drink menu to order extra margaritas never arrived, tacos’ tortillas were cold.
Overall, unfortunately food was just kind of OK.
BUT, I want to make clear, it wasn’t the waiter’s fault, he was working hard, running and trying to cope with the whole big section himself, taking orders, payments, dirty plates away, etc.
It looks more like a poor managing situation, just to make someone to deal with that amount of work.
On the good side: the only margarita we had was really good, the tamal I ordered was quite similar to the ones I’ve had in Mexico and the hard work of the waiter (which was the reason why we didn’t complain).

Dear Customer,
We are very sorry to hear about your experience with us following your recent visit to Mestizo. First of all we would like to express our sincere apologies; to the way you may have been treated at the reception on your arrival to the restaurant. We at mestizo strive to be Welcoming and warm, as this is what Mexican culture is all about, and this experience starts from when you walk into the restaurant - to the “thank you and goodbye “ as of when you leave us. We will make sure we find out what exactly happened to cause this expression.
It has been a difficult time for the industry to cope with the current regulations. In this trying time, our used to be “buffet” that you our clients love so much, has had to be reinvented or otherwise ‘scrapped’ altogether! We are constantly learning, while trying to provide the best service possible to our clients without losing the atmosphere of a brunch/buffet, yet whilst keeping you safe at the same time. This has been tough; but we are not giving up and we welcome your comments to help us get better. We hope to have you back so you can see the improvements we have made.

I wanted to introduce a work colleague to the best Mexican restaurant in London so we popped in after a long day of meetings and workshops, and we were both delighted with the service and suggestions that Maria, our waitress, provided. We had a large jug of orchata, a delicious prawn dish that I mush try again, sooner rather than later, a mole taster that my friend really enjoyed, it was his first time tasting mole, double helpings of tortillas, with fresh avocado and sour cream, beans and the delicious Mexican truffles dish that I had never tried before. And the service, I must mention Maria again because she made the whole experience more enjoyable. It was a pleasure to come back and see Alvin and Diana again, as I don't get to visit often! 😁👍🏻😁♥️♥️♥️

This was a bit of an odd one for me. I just got takeaway. The tacos (pastor) were okay, nothing special. The tortillas you get are small. The crepas de flor de calabaza was a weird dish. They're described as "thin crepe pancakes filled with..." Well, it was nothing of the sort. It was like an enchilada and there was ONE of them (with a bit of rice and black beans) and this "main course" cost £16.50! I also had a margarita. This was nice and probably the reason why the massive dent to my wallet didn't hurt so much. I definitely wouldn't order again and I have no interest in eating in based on this experience. I think I've been a bit generous with my rating.

Visited today with my friend who was recommended this restaurant. The service was terrible and the food variety was minimal. Nothing like what was displayed on their website. No guacamole, no chips and dips. No burritos. My friend had to ask for the flour tortillos which were hidden under the counter out of view. My meal was prepared with bare fingers and hands which were not washed. Considering the current status with a certain virus , you would expect a high level of hygiene to in place. Using the same spatula for one person to the other. The self service food was also cold and and had obviously been lying around a while what was left of it so hugely disappointing. There was no choice of deserts, just a few pieces of cake and empty platters though it was only 3pm said buffet till 4pm. To give credit where credit
due their margaritas were amazing but don’t for the food !
