Finally got my fish and chips

Dining alone is never fun but Top 1 Forever Restaurant was a nice setting on my last night in London. The wait staff seated me by the window where I could look out at a wonderful sunset and watch the cable car calmly pass thru the sky. Waitress Nancy was lovely and polite and made my dinner a relaxed experience. After a week in London I finally got my fish and chips and it was cooked nicely: crisp tasty fish and I substituted sweet potato fries for regular. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again.

Good service BAD STEAK

It was a family day out, we had lunch at the restaurant. Service was good, BUT the steak was tasteless in which both me and my wife didn’t enjoy. My daughter who had a kids meal wasn’t happy with their burger either. However, our two kids did enjoy. We told our waitress that we didn’t enjoy our steak and that it was too fatty and tasteless. Service was good, our waiter was friendly, but food was a disappointment.

Very long wait, good food

Ate here 2 evenings. Had to wait a very long time for the food both times. At least an hour between starter and main course. Good menu, tender chicken wings, large mixed grill. The quality of the food and wines was absolutely fine and the service also had it under control.

Cold and bland

We have eaten here before when staying in London for the 02, last time being pre covid! We won’t be returning, food was bland and the restaurant was absolutely freezing, when I mentioned it the waiter offered to bring me a heater, other people were complaining! So £18 for fish and chips that had no taste and my husband had an overpriced burger, then when he asked for BBQ sauce he was told it would cost £2!!!!! £2 for a tiny dish of sauce, never ever have we dined in a restaurant and been charged for a sauce to accompany a meal (ketchup and mayonnaise are free ????) We couldn’t wait to get out of there to warm up.

Food and venue great, staff not so much

Dinner was lovely so we came the next morning for breakfast and was very disappointed. Took 45 minutes to get food and drink even though there was only 3 other small groups in the restaurant. When drinks arrived we asked whose was who and she said “I don’t know I didn’t make them”, very poor service. Staff had no sense of urgency and when asking for cutlery she said she had to go and clean them, leaving us waiting with food in front of us but having to wait for our knives and forks to eat. So ridiculous! Image shows we simply asked for sausages and breakfast muffin and got charged £8! Same price as a full eggs Benedict (Image shows how ridiculous this looked too) Such a shame as the waiting staff let the place down unfortunately as the food and venue was great. Won’t be returning.

Poor quality main course, drinks come with ice without being asked

We visited the restaurant as it is conveniently located nearby the Sunburn hotel at the excel. Venue was pleasant. Service was ok but drinks order came with ice despite not being ordered. Drink order had to be returned. Main course fish and chips was slimy with soggy batter, cold peas and served with cheap french fries not chips as advertised. Staff were rude when I asked them to remove the voluntary 12 percent service charge that they had automatically added! Wouldn't recommend due to poor food quality and rude staff

Tasteless, tone deaf and overpriced

Shockingly bad service, understaffed and underprepared. Took too long for drinks and food to arrive whilst the restaurant was quiet, but once busy we had to go search for our own condiments and beg for the bill. Great location, shame about the most tasteless risotto I’ve ever eaten 😞.

Chaotically expensive and average

I came here with colleagues on a November night as we were staying close by. We all looked at the menu which initially looked interesting but the prices compared with the quality were out of touch. It took a long time to be served and a very long gap between courses. The waitress was very good. I chose crispy squid to start which was like I plate of deep fried rubbers! I chose simple fish and chips which came without its peas altogether. Two of my colleagues had sausage and mash which was good. One had a very average burger. One had a steak which at £29.00 and without sides which had to be ordered separately at £5.00 each, was not good at all. The steak was just ok I was told. I don’t like giving poor reviews, but this was poor.

Do not order with QR codes on the tables. We ordered our drinks with this QR code: 4 drinks and cheesy fries. Our drinks arrived without problem, except for the cheesy fries: replaced by fried bread and garlic… When we asked the waiter what it was: he told us that the QR code was not valid and that we should not use it: no one told us Order paid.. no solutions found… We are very disappointed.

Hair in my food

Was visiting London and picked one of the restaurants near my hotel. My wife didn’t want to go in but we decided to just try it. The food was ok and fresh but a bit pricey The worst experience was finding a long piece of hair in my chips 🤮 No apology or nothing and even refused us a discount cos they had swapped it for us. They even had the nerve to take add a tip to my bill without even asking Horrible service

my friend and I went to eat at top 1 forever tonight as it was near the cable cars. We booked a table for 9 and then called saying we’d be a few minutes late which they were fine with. When we arrived we were greeted with a “we aren’t taking anymore reservations we’re closed.” not how can i help you or ANYTHING! we were then finally seated where she gave us the menus and walked off. no asking of any allergies until the food order had been taken. When we were bought our food the waitress did not ask if we wanted any extras e.g. sauces and walked off where my friend then had to shout to ask for some sauce. We then heard other staff members swearing and shouting about other customers on the main floor and just being all round unprofessional and rude. I will not be eating there ever again and would never recommend it to anyone.

Unfortunately the waiting on person spilt a full pint of beer over us!! As it was an accident & we didn't want to get her into trouble, we wiped ourselves down and moved tables. At no time were we offered anything by way of compensation (free drinks or maybe a sweet would've been appreciated) but being the nice English people we are we paid the full bill with the service charge!! The position of the restaurant is good, but we also thought it was cold, as others have said and especially when you are a bit damp. Thought it was quite expensive, the food was OK but nothing special.

Noise!

Unfortunately, on this occasion, a 4-star place is losing one star for noise. I understand that the staff won’t challenge customers, but it was difficult for our table to talk to each other because of ambient noise. Aside from that, food was great as usual, our waiter was nice and extremely polite and attentive, and globally this place is great value.

Great staff made it enjoyable

Large party last order in the kitchen after which the chef went home. We wanted a couple of extras so instead of refusing Gabi went to the kitchen and sorted us out some extra salads and dressing etc same with deserts. They were supposed to be closed by 11 but at 10.50 they took the desert orders and drinks meaning they didn’t get finished till 11-15 but they didn’t make us feel uncomfortable. To be honest Gabi and Justine made this meal as it could of easily been a bad experience if handled differently. Good food good service after a hard day just what we all needed

Tasty but expensive

I've walked past Top 1 a few times and fancied eating there for a special occasion. I've cowered a few times at the price of the menu on display. I decided to visit as part of the government 'Help out to eat out scheme' as advertised on the government website. We had a steak and a ribs with a couple of Sam Smith beers and quite surprised that the restaurant was not running the scheme after we received the bill despite advertised on government website. Our server advised us that they would be on the scheme "in the next few days" so be aware. Quite a limited menu (about 10 options in total) but nice atmosphere overlooking the Royal Victoria Docks.
