Well the restaurant was heaving busy ! huge queues and even though we had booked it still took 20+ mins to get seated ! and of course all crammed in the door way with no order to the chaos and finally a member of the staff stood near us shouting and pointing and trying to grab one of our party... Been coming to Tayyabs way before it became the sad Shorditch hipster hangout that it has become, almost 20 years. Called in advance on Saturday was told there was a 20 minute queue. Got in a cab only to find myself queuing for over an hour. Chaotic scenes that should never be seen in a restaurant environment. The owners have... More

Have been here several times mainly for the food which is really tasty and good prices plus you can bring your own drinks. The waiters will put down poppadums which seems they are complimentary but not the case you will find it on your bill at the end which is rather cheeky. Also there are bottles of water on the... I've been to Tayyabs twice now - the first time was as a recommendation from a friend - but we made a school boy error and didn't book. You definitely need to book a table to go, otherwise you're likely to be waiting in a queue of other hungry hopeful diners. The service is super, and we were well looked... More

The place is overcrowded and noisy. We were not given menu so we had to find some if we wanted to eat something. It took ages for the waiters to take our orders. We were served by a rather rude man. At least the food was ok and reasonably priced.

Came here for a meal on 14th Feb 17 around 7pm. It was busy and had to wait upto 20mins which is not bad. Have been to this place many times over the years and this place has never failed us. The Grill in particular always top notch. We ordered seekh kebabs, chicken tikka, lamb chops, Naan and keema naan.... More

Tayyabs is always in those top 10 listings - frequently No, Finally made it there after a business meeting 10 minutes walk away. It was about 3.30 on a grey Thursday afternoon when we arrived. The ground floor was rammed! After 10 minutes watching platters of kebabs, chicken, lamb and naan being ferried to diners we led to our table.... More

Ordered paneer tikka, masala fish, karela daal and peshawari naan. The paneer was just about OK but lacking in flavour. The fish was absolutely awful. It looked like it had been pre fried before going into the tandoor. It was tough. The karela was clearly not fresh and again lacked flavour. Never coming back here again, unless I am drunk... More

My second visit in two years, the character of the place has not got any better. Chaotic seating with tables packed in and uncomfortably close. I was in a large group and could not hear what my companions were saying due to the noise of the overcrowded restaurant. The meat eaters said that their food was good, as a veggie... More

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighbourhood Profile
Whitechapel
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
