Having enjoyed tasty takeaways from this restaurant, we decided to take advantage of the current government discount and go in person to the restaurant for a sit down meal. No problem booking a table (early evening on a Monday), the staff were helpful and friendly and wore face masks.
The food (salmon jalfrezi with pilau rice and non vegetable thali) was delicious and in generous portions.
If you are seated at the front of the restaurant, there are lovely views over Blackheath. There is a small flight of stairs down to the toilets.

Back in to the Taste of Raj after lockdown restrictions were lifted.
As always a first-rate meal for my partner Anne and me.
A Salmon Bhuna and Chicken Chettinad for main course with Sag Aloo, Garlic Naan, Chapati and the highly recommended ‘spicy’ Tarka Daal were all of the highest quality - something we have come to expect over the years. A couple of large bottles of Cobra were the drinks choice on this occasion.
Whilst certainly not the cheapest Indian restaurant around, you can be confident that you will get the best quality chicken and a huge portion of Salmon. The waiting staff are all impeccable and a credit to themselves and the owner.
Looking forward to our next visit

Taste of Raj offers high-quality service, who are attentive, warm and friendly. The food has large portions sizes, offering value for your money and they have deliciously cooked starters. Definitely try the mixed starters option, it was filling. All in all Taste of Raj gets my recommendation.

Firstly I would like to say I have never one for complaining but feel this is required . This was a special birthday for 10 booked 3 weeks in advance .when we got there at the correct time no table .
All ten of us was made to Waite near the bar in a packed restraint
Where by we was all felt to be imposing on people eating there meals
It took 30 minutes before they made our table
In turn we had extremely poor services . 1 person left standing with no chair . 2 persons with no plates on table . Not enough menus per person .and in turn not ready to order when the waiter came to take orders due to sharing menus
Limited Table space takes priority over a enjoyable meal . After waiting 2 hours for our meals my father who we where celebrating he’s birthday left the restaurant in discuss leaving 9 of us to celebrate he’s birthday
If I could give a minus 0 for rude staff and service I would
Food over cooked . Drinks over priced .open power socket with in touching feet level of table And when served not given to the correct person who ordered the meal
We feel very experienced dinning out people with connections to business in the village and can honestly confirm this is the worst service we have ever encountered
And will not recommend clients or friends to return
Just hope your reply will not be as rude as we was made to feel

Dear Chris B
We are so very sorry for the disappointment you had on that night . We work extremely hard to maintain our standards with the highest quality food and good service. Please accept your sincere apologies that we couldn’t meet our standard on that occasion. The management also appreciated your patience and didn’t charge for the food at all which was worth £200 excluding drinks
We always looking to improve our standard on every way possible and your feedback is much appreciated

Used to live in blackheath and loved going to Taste Of Raj. But after moving away nearly two years ago we’ve not been able to go back. Finally we returned! It was incredible, the food was better than I remember; the sauces are thick and rich in flavour. The service is incredible and especially in such difficult times they’re doing an amazing job to keep that homely and intimate atmosphere alive. Favourite Indian restaurant in London!

Your food was sadly the worst Indian food we have ever had and cost a bomb ! In this lockdown we decided to not cook and support our local Indian takeaway but we were sadly hugely disappointed. It cost nearly £50 to feed three people and we may aswell have thrown the £50 down the toilet. The food tasted so bad that we literally could not finish it and had to feed it to thé pets. My king prawn shashlick was supposed to be freshly cooked but the prawns were yellow and hard and looked like the dish had been there a week and had started to rot. The prawn purée was tasteless and bland and the rice may have well stood there for week. The chicken Korma ea a thé best dish out of all three but the rest was awful.
I normally do not complain but I am really upset to pay good money for terrible food especially when money is so tight.
The service was good and friendly but we will never go back there again.

We always try very very hard to cooked the quality food all the time
Food we cooked in our kitchen is very fresh and everyday freshly cooked
I’m so sorry that I probably couldn’t make your expectation right this time !
But please try to order the same food again and the management will be happy to pay for your food without any paying
Again we’re very sorry
Thank you

Family of five adults - we thoroughly enjoyed our meal yesterday evening. The food was tasty and hot when it came to the table and the staff were courteous and attentive, advising on flavours and portion size when asked. We would definitely visit again.

We have visited the Taste of Raj many times and have ordered takeaways from them a number of times during lockdown. The food has been brilliant every single time and the staff have been above and beyond to make sure that each experience was first rate.
We went for dinner last night and even though we hadn’t booked the staff were very accommodating and found us a table in the packed restaurant. The food was excellent and all of the team were friendly and helpful.
Anyone who is visiting Blackheath should definitely make a visit to the Taste of Raj!

Worst Indian we have ever experienced. from the minute we walked in the service was very rushed, almost like they want to sit you down and get rid of you for the next customers. The starters took 45 minutes and arrived in this ridiculous gold try that they just plonked on the table, our table was quite small for two, so we had to remove it from the tray and give it back to them ti get more room., the food was tasteless and didn’t resemble Indian cuisine. We then received our main course again on the same tray which again was plonked on the table, the strange tableware was very odd, not your typical flat plates, food was served on small hammered Indian plates, very awkward to eat on, the food was crapped on these small plates very odd. I ordered tandoori chicken and it didn’t arrive sizzling, it didn’t even look or taste like tandoori chicken. It was cold and tasteless and a very funny colour, very off putting. Service was very slow.
Oh and to top it up the restaurant is quite small, the entrance door kept opening all night long for takeaways, the delivery bikes where constantly outside picking up deliveries every 15 minutes so lots of commotion up and down the restaurant, unfortunately for us we were seated by the door, not a good look when you are out for a quiet relaxed meal.
A very horrible experience and we dine out a lot, in our opinion the was the worst Indian restaurant … Never again!

I eat out regularly, including various Indian restaurants, and this is the best I’ve had in a while. The menu has unusual choices as well as the standards. I asked for something reasonably hot, without blowing my head off. The dish he suggested was superb, you could taste the individual spices. The Prawn Purée starter was very good and the Paratha lovely and light, unlike the stodgy one I had in another restaurant recently.
We got talking to the manager and he mentioned that they were closed for 3 months during the lockdown and operated as a take away. They supported the NHS by giving free meals to anyone with a a NHS card. Well done and let’s support these guys in return.

We visited here as part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme as we thought we'd take a break from home cooking. I'm so glad we did as it was a lovely experience. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, service was great (we were only there for just over an hour) and social distancing guidelines were adhered to. The food was fantastic and I'm pleased we've discovered our new local curry house, will absolutely be visiting time and time again, either dine in or take out.

Hi. Visited with my friends on the 10/10/21 I had been previously a few years back and always said I would like to visit again, if was in the area. not sure if new owners but the food was Awful, I picked what I would normally have for an curry house and understand that some times dishes will change, I went for a very mild dish and it took my mouth off! I mean literary for hours, the manager came over with some yogurt with I thought was plain to ease the taste but it was more like garlic mayo and the Bombay potatoes and sagg aloo was very dry and baked. Also we was in there at least 45 minutes before another table arrived and had there food before us!
Normally I would never do a review, but money was not well spent!

Spoiled for choice in Blackheath for good Indian or Nepalese restaurants but Taste of Raj is consistently excellent. I ordered take away for 20 people and Mohammed and his team could not have been more helpful, from supplying large containers to loading the car. The food was ready on time and could be served piping hot. All my guests love Indian food and they all rated this meal among the best they had ever had. Chicken Jalfrezi was spiced to perfection. Tikka Masala was delicious - not too sweet. The prawn and the puri were packed separately to keep the puri itself kept dry. Aubergine and Okra dishes were spot on. There was so much food we have been happily eating leftovers for days. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Food was flavoursome, presented well and served promptly. Staff were friendly and appropriately attentive. They accommodated my request to do a birthday surprise dessert for my partner, and initiated singing happy birthday with the whole restaurant joining in! Very enjoyable evening and would recommend as the food was top quality.
