Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our friends had been here a couple of years ago and had a very good experience. So, maybe there has been a change in ownership in this time because this is not the current experience. They did however mange to hit three number one's in...my Chinese food dinning experience. No1 Most expensive per head ( for what you received) and No1 worst food, totally bland, cold, poorly presented and portions of Haute Cuisine measures. The overall service and presentation could also probably rank as a No1 worst. Seriously save the money and buy a takeaway from... hmm anywhere, even Sainsbury microwave Chinese dinner.More

In the heart of Chinatown, this is traditional dim sum dishes of dumplings and such. They have a whole Chinese food menu, but the dim sum was the star of the show and really tasty. Would recommend doing dim sum here.

We had a very nice meal at Orient. The food was very good. The service was excellent. The staff are superb. Nothing was too much trouble.

Rushed throughout, came to take our order 3 times clearly before we were ready, then brought the duck when we'd only just started our starters. I asked at this point for the mains not to come until we had finished our starters and duck, but...they came out anyway, and we sent them back. Air conditioning on high, so I asked for it to be turned down, if nothing else it was chilling the food, and I hate eating a meal sat with my coat on. Asked again, and I'm pretty sure it was turned up not down as I started to feel it on my legs. Asked again and was told it wasn't on that it was the breeze when customers opened the door, but there was barely anyone else in the restaurant. Food was bland, one dish the noodles smelt and tasted badly burned so we sent them back and they were taken off the bill. The drinks were fine and served promptly.More

Busy, tasty and not bad value. Overwhelming choice of restaurants in the area so picked the first one we crossed and got lucky. Extensive menu so attentive waiter assisted with recommendations. Restaurant loaded with Asian nationals which is always a good indicator. Would return

There were nine of us in our party. We had one of the set meals that included mixed starters, a duck course and then varied mains, adding a couple of extra dishes which were probably not required. The quality was excellent and the customer service...was very efficient and friendly too. Thoroughly enjoyable.More

We have eaten here on many occasions and have always been very happy, returning often or recommending to others. It is pricey but has always been worth it . However following our recent visit we will no longer be returning . The service was appalling..., surly and rushed . The food was brought out quickly and all at once, with no pause between courses , in fact the main course was brought out whilst we were still eating our starters. At one point the serving staff picked finished skewers from my plate whilst I was still eating . On another occasion they emptied food from the serving dish onto my plate so they could take the serving dish away . The icing on the cake was when I saw the serving staff use the toilet and then leave without washing their hands thoroughly .More

My wife and I called in for a meal before going to a show. We have struggled to find a decent restaurant in China Town, and so hoped that Orient London would tick all the boxes - and it pretty much did! The restaurant was...quiet when we went in, and so staff were very attentive ( to the extent that it was almost a bit rushed to start with). There is lots of choice on the menu, but we opted for a set meal, which was absolutely delicious, and just the right size of portions. We asked the staff to let us have a break between courses, which they duly did. The restaurant started to fill up, and we noticed that many of the customers were of oriental origin, which must be a good endorsement of the food! The food and drink was a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for, and this was by far the best restaurant experience that we have had in China Town for many years. We will definitely be back, and I would certainly recommend.More

Looking for dim sum on a Sunday afternoon after a visit to the National Gallery, I located this nearby restaurant and luckily found a seat quickly. Later, a long queue developed, as I could see from my table, which faced the front windows. The dim...sum selection was extensive and varied; I opted for prawn and pork dumplings, chicken feet in black bean sauce, and a soup. All were delicious. Note that one chooses from a menu, not a cart, which in some ways is preferable.More

Went there with my wife for an after theatre supper. We were greeted at the door and seated. The guy who appeared to be in charge said the kitchen was closing in about 30mins, so as long as you order quickly then no problem. We...ordered quickly and they brought it all at once and then started removing things from the table. Everything ended up cold whilst the staff, who were very rude without exception, continued to hustle us to go. The bill arrived with the food because theyn wanted to close the till. The little food I managed to try was substandard and not worth eating. meanwhile my wife got upset by their behaviour. When I complained I was accused of being drunk, which was not true. . All in all a most disappointing experience and a good evening spoiled. To sum up very poor food, rude staff and appalling service. I will never trouble them again, best of luck if you choose to.More

We have always gone to The Orient in Wardour Street every year religiously, always had a great meal with good service, and decided this time to take my sister and her husband to show them what a great restaurant we had found, so wish we...hadn’t bothered!! We always have one of the set menus in the past and noticed that it had gone up in price quite considerably, ok I understand with the cost of living etc but this was a big jump, but it was always a great meal so we went for it anyway. In the past you could swap one of the main dishes for something else , but the waiter said it wasn’t possible anymore, so I asked could I just swap beef for chicken and he just said no! We should of just left at this point. Food came out really quickly and we had the starters and duck pancakes brought out together so while eating one the other was going cold. Miserable looking staff who seem snappy and rude. Bill came to £225 for the 4 of us, it’s never been that expensive in the past, but if the food is good , you don’t mind paying but food seemed bland this time? Don’t know if new owners have taken over but didn’t recognise anyone here this time. Last meal in this place ever for me now, am sure there are more friendly and welcoming places in Chinatown.More

Although the service wasn’t particularly friendly, I can’t say it was bad either - it was certainly very quick and efficient. Our food (vegetable spring rolls, crispy tofu with sweet and sour sauce, and a chicken chow mein) was delicious and the restaurant itself is...lovely. I’d definitely recommend visiting.More

This restaurant is worth seeking out, located just off the main tourist area of Chinatown, easily walkable from Leicester Square tube station. Serving a wide selection of dishes, including more authentic than those on Gerrard Street. We were there after a day working in London,...but for those with more time the restaurant has a good wine list if you wish to linger a while. Meat dishes, we ordered 2, was sufficient after a 1/4 duck starter, together with vegetables and rice. Good service, friendly welcome, suggest booking just to be sure.More

We went for an early dinner on the Saturday of the August bank holiday and china town was CROWDED ! The Orient was packed to the gills and turning tables over quickly. We had a 6pm booking and we were soon shown to our table...and promptly offered drinks and given the menu. We chose set menu C and the starters came out pretty quickly - the quality of the food was a bit mixed with some items flavoursome and others overcooked. The intermediate course of crispy aromatic duck was so overcooked it was inedible - the pancakes served with it were undercooked and raw on the edges. The main courses were of very poor quality. BUT everyone around us was tucking in and having a great night. Unfortunately we’ve eaten really good Chinese in Hong Kong & Singapore and the Orient was just cheap and cheerful.More

Delicious food! We were strolling about the area after a busy day, not sure what we fancied to eat and where to go, passed The Orient and checked it's menu out outside and decided we could just eat a Chinese! Yum!!! The staff were so...lovely as well, couldn't do enough for everyone!More

No dress code, that I am aware of. We wore smart casual attire, as we were going to see a show after the meal.
