Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gone down the tubes - staff are grumpy and scruffy, place is dirty with flies and the smell of the downstairs puts you off of your food and there is just a general “angst” in the air. Food is like eating in a worn down...pub. We felt the same darkness at their Kensington branch. Thought that may have been better but alas, not all. It’s had its day, and since Mr Balan passed away, it’s lost its spark - time to sell up I think and or change name, staff and concept…More

Can’t believe I had never come across this place before. Ideal after the theatre in town. Food was excellent and service good, even though busy. Will def go back - nice menu.

The new menu is an absolute disaster. Balans had always been reknowned for comfort food with a twist. There is none of that on the new menu. Pretentious… Overpriced… And deeply unsatisfying: I will not revisit until it returns to what we know and love.More

Great atmosphere in heart of Gay Soho- funny, friendly staff kept us entertained. Food was a game of two halves- mains were a bit mixed but the desert was divine darling!

We were delighted to get a table and we’re not disappointed with the food which was well presented and hot as well as delicious. However the starter plates weren’t cleared before the main was served, we then had to wait for cutlery before we could...eat, and paying the bill took ages.More

Wonderful pancake breakfast! My friend and I popped in on a surprisingly busy Sunday for brunch and we were not disappointed! Our delightful server was friendly, chatty and very helpful, and the food was fantastic and VERY filling. Balans is a gorgeous queer-friendly space with...lush artwork, a lovely vibe, and a seriously tasty menu! Would not hesitate to go again!More

I used to love Balans - great food, good value and wonderful hospitality… I was in yesterday and was sooo disappointed. The staff looked scruffy and barely could manage a smile, the waiters used to be so much fun! Maybe it’s not their fault, they...looked under staffed but it certainly wasn’t the cheerful welcome and friendly banter that we used to enjoy. The food was mediocre, brown avocado mushed on toast, fatty salmon - I left half of it. Slow service and one thing which may not be important to everyone (but is to us) is that it is no longer LGBTQ at all, I guess the change in clientele (tourists in tracksuits) reflects the falling standards. If anyone knows a good alternative for a regular soho hang out I’d love to hear it!More

Daniel, our waiter, looked after us so well, with charm, a sense of humour and real warmth. Thank you. However the porn star martinis were a bit disappointing - too sweet, no passion fruit (other bars in OCS serve them). But our other drinks were...delicious and we had a really fun time.More

I haven’t been to Soho 60 for a few years now, so was happy to go back for a friends Xmas meet - party of 12. Firstly had to wait over 30 mins just to order a drink. When the tray of drinks did arrive...the waitress left the drinks at the bottom of a long table, not even asking whose drink was whose - “ helloooo I’m at the far end of the table”. The food had been pre-ordered. By the time it was served to us, it had obviously been sitting on the side for a good 10 mins, as it was looking dried out and was warm rather than hot. We ordered a bottle of rose Prosecco. The waitress opened the bottle without checking, and lo and behold it was wasn’t rose - we kept the bottle anyway, but this is a basic level of hospitality which shouldn’t even need explaining. The spirits very limited, not even having their own menu. So I guess they were the ones used for the cocktails. All in all, disappointing experience which wont encourage me to go back. It feels like the company has been bought out - and the takeover has dropped its standards. Maybe that is incorrect, but that is how it feels. Sad as I used to have really good memories of this place.More

Second visit to Balans 60, we were first in the restaurant at opening time, staff were attentive and efficient, we both had the full English but the choice of breakfast was very varied. Recommend a visit when you’re in soho, we’ll be back.

I’ve been coming to this Soho institution for more years than i care to remember, and have always had good food. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming, and late night, it’s always lively and can be delightfully random! I hadn’t had a full English...here for ages and as I popped in during the day I thought I’d just go for that. Not sure what has happened but it was pretty poor! At the end, I queried whether they had stopped serving tomatoes with it, and was told that you get beans instead. As I’d had neither, my coffee was given free. That aside, it really isn’t cheap - about 35% more expensive than a year ago, but the quality and quantity has definitely gone down. The poached eggs were watery and the yolks looked anaemic. The potatoes lacked herbs and seasoning. The additional sausage actually cost £5.50 - for one extra sausage! Sourdough toast had come out more like crisp bread. I had to ask for butter. Had a Bloody Mary with it that was watery. Very sorry to say that it really wasn’t great and not great value. I’ve had fry ups here many times, especially Saturday or Sunday brunch and it’s always been good, so please Balaans, as prices have gone up loads, no reason to compromise on quality or quantity. I’ve included a pic from a year ago done well for comparison. Would anyone say that’s the same breakfast?More

Food was decent. We had croquettes and calamari. The croquettes were cheesy, calamari tbh very chewy sadly. Mains we both had chicken enchiladas which was quite good, loved the way it was served. That said, the highlight was actually Jack who was our water. Attentive,...funny, the most interactive waiter we have ever had. For that reason we will be back - we need more Jacks!!!! Thank you for being so attentive and see you soon when in London. Thank you Jack.More
