The family visited for a 50th birthday celebration. We were in the main restaurant area as opposed to the area where the bar is . Everything was fine albeit bit quiet and less atmosphere than the bar area. Staff were very jovial and helpful. Starters were very slow - we waited over an hour for them after ordering. The staff... Returned to this restaurant courtesy of the free meal and wine offer from the owner following our original experience. Glad to say there was a distinct improvement. The bar is certainly the venue of choice. Food and wine were all good. The beef is locally sourced and delicious. The desserts, Lemon Posset and Panna Cotta with rhubarb were also highlights.

My fiancé and I had a great evening at this restaurant. The service was impeccable, and the dishes extraordinary. Great wine list as well!

We've been here many times before and always enjoyed ourselves. This time we were in the ground floor restaurant with a nice table on the bench. The staff were friendly and attentive as usual and the menu catered for our vegetarian tendencies. The food was great. This place is a Norwich institution.

Having always had it in mind as one of the finest restaurants in Norwich I was really looking forward to going. The bar area is nice and although we had to wait a short while for our table the staff were helpful. Once we got to our table it went downhill. The food was OK but we had to wait... More

Dear Norwich1984, I am really sorry that things weren't up to scratch on your recent visit, I'm aware of the night in question & without wishing to make excuses we had the combination of a new Menu, a Chef unexpectedly calling in sick at late notice & a large table which was an hour late, this did unfortunately disrupt service.... We enjoyed a lovely evening here as couples. My wife was heavily pregnant and with an insatiable appetite, totally satisfied with her beef short rib mains, but not so happy with her salmon starter. I had hoped to have crab after reading such great reviews but they had none on offer. I really enjoyed the pork belly starter, I'd have... More

Enjoyed our meal downstairs - relaxed feeling. Food well presented and tasty. More description on the dessert menu of what "chocolate , coffee and hazelnut" was would have been helpful but it was delicious and very rich. Turned out to be chocolate mouse, coffee ice cream and crushed hazelnuts!! Enjoyable.

Sat in a bar minding my own and no one else's business and a tale of two waitresses . One really cool, smiley, engaging. The other OMG. I am here as I write this and she scares the absolute muck out of me and I'm working out 3 times a week. Descriptive piece (and please Trip don't post this until... More

Dear misvhmmmw4, Thank you for your review, my waitress is really upset, especially by your WWF comment but you seem like a charming bloke so I'm sure it was just a lapse on your part. You should possibly consider publishing a short booklet of your reviews, you have a unique style which you seem to revel in & I'm sure... More

Went with my husband tonight and was bowled over by the new menu. Had the lamb rump for main, served pink just melted in your mouth. Desserts were the best we've had, the almond cake with pear and yoghurt ice cream and the rich chocolate and coffee ice cream combo. Must say they have really got it right with this... More
