We arrived at this restaurant to be told we only booked a table for 3 people, when in fact we booked for 5! So we ended up sitting in a side room away from the main restaurant. It wasn’t very appealing & there was one other table with people on it. We got our starter fairly fast, despite them placing it on the table next to us thinking that family had ordered a second starter! It was then quickly removed from in front of these people & put on our table. We weren’t that bothered, but some people who are worried about covid might have been upset that their food had been placed in front of another family! We weren’t even asked what starter we ordered or told what each dish was. They were just put in front of us at random! I know this place has been shut for a few months, but at least have people who know how to waiter. We then had to wait over an hour for our main course, the people on the table next to us waited an hour and a half. The food was incredibly delicious, every single one of us said it was the best Indian food we had tasted. The portions were large & every single dish was so tasty. When we asked for the bill we were given a bill with no total & the drinks were just added as an after thought, they were not itemised, just a random drinks total. I then had to go find someone to sort it out because we didn’t see many waiters whilst we were there. I asked for it to be split into 3 separate bills. 2 bills were correct, one bill added an extra £12 on top! The service was chaos from start to finish, leaving us wishing we had just got a take away. Hopefully this was just teething problems seen as they have just reopened. But it has definitely put us off sitting in the restaurant again. I would have given it 1 star for service. But the food was so delicious I had to rate this place 4 star. Just stick to take away!

Just had a lovely meal here. Went for the set menu for 2 which allows 2 starters, 2 mains, a side, rice and a naan for £32. Drinks were pricy at £4.50 for a pint of cobra. Service was great. Word of warning, I ordered a Bhuna and it was far too hot/spicy, more like a mild madras. My partner got a madras and it nearly took his head off. Yes I’ve had better Indian meals but I’ve also had far, far worse. Would definitely come back next time I’m in Whitby.

Arrived (with a booking) at 7.30 eventually left the restaurant at 10.20! Service was at best "slow", despite poppadoms, starters and mains nearly 3 hours for a meal is too much. Other reviews mention "burnt" onion bargies...we had 4 lots ..2 of the 4 were "burnt! Other than this food was excellent. As a party of 6 we had a number drinks which when finished did not get cleared (see pic). At no time did we feel we were "looked after" Food is on the top end of spicy but it was certainly to our taste and we had no problem (others would disagree). Overall lovely food but it took just too long!

I ordered a butter chicken takeaway, it arrived in a plastic box with "Butter Chicken" writen on the lid in felt tip pen. So far, so good. I opened it and was surprised to find a very pale beige substance inside. It smelled strongly of coconut, was slightly gritty and tasted sickly sweet. It was obvious to me that this was a Chicken Korma, something I would never have ordered. I rang the restaurant to ask them to exchange this for an actual Butter Chicken, offering to drive to the restaurant to collect it. The manager vehemently denied any mistake and said, "If it says butter chicken on the lid it cannot possibly be a korma". I was given the wrong meal once before when dining in the restaurant but they replaced it as one of my friends, a 6'5" fireman, did the complaining on my behalf.

Visited on Sunday 26th July at roughly 9.30. The first thing that stuck out was the waiter not wearing his mask when the other two were. The waiters weren't as pleasant as they could have been. For drinks we ordered a large Coke and and a bottle of water. The drinks came and the Coke wasn't large it was a half a pint. The bottled water came in two glasses, why didn't they give me the bottle unopened. This makes me think if it was tap water! My wife had a poppadom with four dips of which one was foul but some people may well love it. For starter i had chicken Tikka and my wife had chicken puree. I thought the chicken Tikka was dry and not value for money. My wife liked her puree. For the main course we both ordered Chicken Tikka masala i had fries with mine and my wife had chicken rice. My masala was good but my wife thought hers was too sweet and not what she was expecting. My chips were fine but the wifes rice was dry. When the bill came part of it was unreadable. That part was the drinks Overall we were disapointed with our visit and probably wouldn't visit again. We paid £38+ which wasn't value for money

Dined here Monday night. Nice little restaurant in excellent location with polite staff. They do a "special " all inclusive meal (for 2 or 4 persons) which seems good value at just £34.95 so went for that. Starters (mixed kebab) were disgusting, greasy, tasteless and well, just horrid. These were followed by the mains which unfortunately were equally bad having neither the correct flavour, spiciness or consistency of cooked to order Asian cuisine and the "pilau" rice was simply ordinary boiled long grain rice with a bit of cood coulouring scattered in - none of the traditional pilau ingredients were there - utterly bland, and rather nasty. IMO this restaurant is being dishonest in its claim to be serving classic Indian cuisine. My advice to would be diners - dont waste your money & buy a curry pot noodle instead. It'll be more authentic and enjoyable than the food here.

I visited for a meal with my family the other day, I ordered a Malibu & Coke but it was virtually impossible to drink. It was full of ice, watered down coke and then the Malibu poured in last. My first sip was pure rum. We ordered some popadoms at the start but one came out with a small black hair baked into it. I ordered the Kahari Chicken, however the description didn’t match the taste. There were no green peppers in it, no spice to it and a very aniseed style taste to it, or “bonjela” taste as my brother coined it. The servers don’t wear their face masks properly. They all just cover their mouths and not their noses. Only member of staff that did have it being worn properly seemed to be two women and what I presume was the manager in a blue chequered shirt. Also in a time where distancing is key, you’d not expect servers to lean across the table to place your food down for you, personally I’d rather take my food off a large tray that’s placed at the side of the table. One last thing, do not look at the back of the placemats, don’t think they’ve ever been cleaned in their lives. I’m only here for the week and it was nice to try something else but I won’t be returning again next year

Ordered here 28th July 2020 after previously trying them last year and leaving a good review. Really gone down hill, not the same, not at all authentic Indian food. Chicken was disgusting, very dry. Curry was dry too, we ordered Dupiaza and rogan josh, both dry and taste much like a ready meal type curry but drier. For starters we had chicken bhuna which was the strangest I've ever seen, it was wrapped up like a parcel/pastie type appearance. Garlic nan was similar to a supermarket packet type. CHIPS! My god! Must be the cheapest frozen ones you can get! Totally uneadable, this was the deciding factor on me phoning Passage to India to complain, only to be told the manager was out at the moment and would ring me back. Don't bother, keep serving food like this you will not last, even if there is no competition in the area. Not cheap either, quite expensive. If you fancy an Indian takeaway whilst staying in Whitby, don't bother and wait till you get back home.

Only Indian restaurant available so we booked. A little strange location next to bus depot, the front entrance looked a bit grubby. Was reasonably busy, but didn't have to wait long. Decor could do with a bit of freshening up. Also a deep clean wouldn't go.a miss. The waiters could also be smartened up. The service was ok food starter onion bhaji was over cooked. Mains were fine we ordered off the special 2 for £34.99 shame the paneer was not dry fried before beginning added to sauce. Over all.ok but wouldn't rush back

Booked a meal with two months notice for my 60th birthday for 9 people and got together with friends that live hundreds of miles apart to my horror when we arrived even though they had my phone number with the booking they simply said we are closed take away only. This absoulutley ruined my Day and there was not even an apology. Any restaurant surely would check their bookings and inform customers of closure for what ever reason giving them chance to try and find somewhere else which unfortunately for such a large group at short notice was not possible. Shame on you Passage to India !

We booked a table, arrived it was busy restaurant. We were seated and our order was taken. Our poppadoms arrived straight away and our starters followed not allowing us time to enjoy them and as soon as our starter plates were taken the main meal came all before getting our drink. The food was all cooked well and really tasty but it unfortunately all felt very rushed. No complaints about the service or the food but would have been nice to have had a few minutes between courses.

This restaurant had good points & bad points so I'll start with the good. Young but efficient and helpful waiters. One of our party is a vegan and our waiter was very helpful with regards to which foods were suitable. The food arrived quickly and was nicely presented Sadly that is the end of the good points as the food itself was disappointing. 2 of us had a chicken dish but asked for the chicken to be replaced with vegetables as we are vegetarians. The meal that we were served consisted of a tablespoon of frozen (or tinned) vegetables swimming in half a pint of sauce - for the princely sum of nearly £10! The rice's (we ordered 3 different types) were good and the other dishes that we ordered were OK but all consisted of more sauce than anything else and we didn't feel that they were worth their price I think it's safe to say that we won't be returning!

We hadn’t booked and went as a family of 4; seated immediately and all regulations in place with hand sanitiser etc. We cook and eat a lot of curries and have to say I found it somewhat average. The food wasn’t as hot as I would have liked with them bringing out the curries first with a wait for the pilau rice. The pilau rice I found quite bland (lacking salt). Naan bread was tasty but small for the price. Chicken in the curry was quite dry. I wouldn’t choose to return to eat here. This is the only Indian place in the immediate area and I believe that’s the reason they are reasonably busy.

We ordered a takeaway for 5 and we’re told it would be delivered within an hour. An hour and a quarter later we tried to call more than 5 times and there was no answer. After an hour and 40 mins later the food turned up with no apology and opening the bags we discovered the food was lukewarm and parts of the order were missing despite paying full price. I understand this was our responsibility to check the food before paying and honest mistakes can be made however i feel this was still unacceptable on a quiet Tuesday night. On the other hand, the food was tasty once warmed up and had plenty of flavour.

Popped in on a quiet Monday evening. Had a nice India beer while waiting for the food. Spent the time talking to a friedly lady behind the counter. Food was quick, piping hot (was still hot after a 6 mile taxi ride), and nice and spicy. The Vindaloo had just the right heat for me.
