Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a shame, after seeing the vegan pie advertised and Happy Cow sticker on the door, when we got seated we were told the mash wasn’t vegan and no plant milk for a hot drink. The mushroom ale pie was delicious but only served with...peas, expensive and not filling without the potatoes. Surely a batch could be mashed with dairy free flora?! Really lovely little place with nice staff, just disappointing not to be fully catered for.More

Went for tea on a Saturday night and couldn't have had a nicer time. A small place with one waiter who looked after everyone in there. He was extremely polite and didn't miss a thing when it came to making sure everyone was happy. The...food was exactly as described, simple and absolutely delicious. The pies were brilliant, mash potato was lovely, rich gravy, what more could you ask for? Then the puddings were spot on to finish the evening off. Great little place!!More

Sadly no vegan mash to go with vegan pie, even though advertised as a vegan pie meal. Couldn't quite get my head around them wanting to serve a vegan pie with mash made with dairy butter. Shows a lack of understanding. Anyway I had extra...peas instead but was still charged £11.99 for 2/3 of advertised meal. Don't think we'll be going back unless the sort the mash.More

Cute little find. Saw this place on tiktok and decided to try! Very cramped but chintzy and vintage feel with the buildings interesting history on the menu and artifacts around it's a lovely different feeling to most run of the mill cafes. Pie was fresh,...homemade as was the mash. Couldn't fault the food at all, small menu but they clearly know what they are doing and do it well! Only gripe was thick layer of dust on the shelves at eye level but would recommend highly for the piesMore

First visit here and what tasty food it is. Pies are amazing. All homemade - even the puddings. Lovely retro vibe. Will definitely visit again.

We had the pie and mash at lunch time. It was so good. The building is amazing and the decor is great all 1940s. Just such a good experience.

Amongst some of the finest Fish and Chip shops on planet Earth is this shining example of good solid home cooking where there not a fried chip or battered fish in sight. Instead is a very comprehensive selection of pies. Service is impeccable and the...portions spot on. Children are catered for and it's pet friendly. The lad running the floor gets it spot on with a friendly face and on time delivery of pie goodness. I've had a cracking feed.....you have to try this place. Its good. I'm off for a lie down now.More

5/5 if not more! We visited this spot 07/01/24 after seeing it on tiktok and was sceptical however we walked right in, immediately seated and served, food came within 10 minutes, absolutely delicious. So much in fact that we will 100% return and we are...taking a couple pies home! We had sticky toffee and jam roly poly for dessert and the value and quality cannot be faulted! The young gentleman that served us was so polite, very accommodating and quick to attend to you! Compliments to the chefs and the server! Very surprised and very glad we stumbled across this amazing place!More

Visited between Christmas and New Year having been a few times on previous stays in Whitby and this place never disappoints. We have tried most of the pies on the menu and they are always very tasty. Hommity and Minced Beef & Onion this time...with mash peas and gravy were delicious Great old cafe with interesting history and good service. We will return again.More

What a great little place. Simple menu but works well. Really fast friendly service - bit of a delay if you order veggie but that’s fine. Great to see 30% of the menu non-meat. It really is like time travel back to the 1940’s. Great...value at £12 for the pie mash peas. Will definitely go again.More

We visited Inbetween lunch and dinner, and were greeted by a polite and friendly gentleman, we ordered our food and it was served in good time. The food was excellent with no faults for a very good price.

Chose this place as they have a couple of great vegan options on the menu (for me that is as my partner is a full on meat eater) however when we ordered we were told the mash wasn't vegan and was that OK? Well no...not if you're vegan! So it was pie, peas and gravy for me. I mean how hard is it to make the mash with a dairy free spread (there are countless fabulously tasty butter alternatives out there) or just have vegan mash aswell so we vegans can have the full experience? No oat or soya milk, so I couldn't even have a hot drink. Not to mention there were no vegan puds on the menu. Such a shame as the pie (mushroom and ale) was very tasty but that in itself won't warrant a repeat visit until the vegan offerings are sorted out.More

Great food, fairly priced, dog friendly ( even a barky grumpy and tired Dog ) and the Staff and atmosphere made it really special, thank you.
