We were stopping near Sandsend for our weekend in Whitby, so ate here on our second night. The Hart Inn is a proper cosy pub, obviously popular with locals (always a good sign), and serves good food. It is dog friendly, and allow dogs in the comfortable, stylish bar area, though not in the restaurant (fair enough). We enjoyed starters... More

Went in on a spur of the moment thing, ordered some food and the starters and main course were out of this world. Lovely portions, hot, well cooked and well presented. Good service and nice people to finish off a lovely meal !!

This is a great pub, my wife and I with our little dog ate here 3 times during our 3 night east coast break. It is a traditional pub with great real ales, excellent food and a lovely friendly atmosphere. I can heartily recommend it and would not hesitate to return when in the area.

While visiting Sandsend for a long weekend we were advised to try The Hart Inn through the people who owned our accomodation...And we weren't disappointed. This a very cosy and traditional English Inn. Beamed ceilings, stone floor, roaring fire, with a good cross section of customers...Famalies, locals, walkers, dog owners. Downstairs is the pub but you can still eat here... More

Called in on spec and had a lovely steak, cooked exactly as i asked. The service was excellent. The seating is within the bar area and I believe upstairs too. We sat downstairs which added to the experience as it was busy, but not crowded.

Called in on a Friday evening with the dog. Great service, friendly staff and a nice warm fire! Food was lovely & huge portions! I had the Thai red curry with prawns & monkfish which was brimming with prawns & was nicely spicy. Our party also enjoyed the gammon, bean burger & chicken burger. All reasonably priced. Save room for... More

When in Whitby my wife and i usually walk along the sea front to Sandsend (about a 45min walk) to visit The Hart Inn for lunch... The pub has a nice view over the stream/river as it flows into the sea and the bus stop opposite the front door is handy if you wish to catch a bus back to... More

We made the mistake of ordering a curry instead of a fish or seafood dish. (The prawn cocktails which other diners had ordered looked huge!) Unfortunately we were seated next to a very loud family who failed to consider other diners. We were so put off we didn't return.
