We have been here twice in a row, why not if it is so good? Whitby’s reputation for sea food is enhanced by this restaurant. The first night, the freshest cod in such a long time. White, clean and so good. Tonight, crab bisque, possibly...the best I’ve ever had followed by fish pie. Again super fresh and tasty fish. Excellent service with friendly and attentive staff. What is there not to like?More

Heard and saw recommendations and had to try it when we came to Whitby and we loved it! We had the fish & chips, a side of scampi and curry sauce for takeaway sat in the harbour - delicious!

Went on a Thursday night for a family meal when we arrived in Whitby. Few minutes wait for a table but not a problem. Staff were brilliant throughout. Kids had the children's fish and chips which looked and tasted brilliant, portion size was plenty for...kids. We also has a couple of the specials, woof and monkfish tail, both were extremely tasty. Chocolate brownie sundae was demolished by the kids for dessert and the mixed fruit crumble was excellent. Could not fault a single part of the meals. Definitely worth a visitMore

We choose to dine here due to the reputation built up over a long period of time. Once you step foot inside it is clear it has a cafe feel to it rather than a restaurant. Cramped seating around shabby old fixtures and fittings. Underneath...our table were the remains of the previous guests dinner, including the odd chip and garden peas! Whilst we were looking at the menu there was a waitress having a confrontation with a large table of 8 who had their order for both food and drink messed up and only half their food arrived. The waitress was so unprofessional and rude and did not handle the situation well. Our service was ok, but it did lack professionalism; some staff definitely need some guidance and training on customer service. The food, which is the important factor was good, but no better than anywhere else like the Quayside, Trenches and The FIsherman's Wife, and more expensive too. I would not return to the Magpie Cafe and suggest management take some time observing staff and bringing the customer service up to scratch. Overall a poor experience in a cramped overhyped cafe. Sorry!More

Overpriced for the food. The cod and chips were okay and just like any other fish and chip shop in a seaside town, but was majorly overpriced. A small bottle of coke was £3 and a medium cod was £15, while i understand prices have...gone up for covid and since the resteraunt had a fire the 'reputation' this 'cafe' has is undeniablly unsatisfactory. I was expecting more when the bill for 2 people came to £30+ but was disappointed at both the food, the building being poorly cared for and having to pay for extra condiments. I live near a posher area of the UK and when comparing the food to the cost of this resteraunt to its competitors i strongly adivise taking a look else where. I will not be likely to come here again.More

We have visited the Magpie since 2010 and always find the food remarkable. The quality of the food is exceptional for the price, the service is always attentive and efficient and the daily specials and menus are hard to beat anywhere in the UK. Well...done team Magpie .More

It’s so good in here, I’ve been coming for years, it’s seafood, and ultra fresh. Never had better, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, oysters, lots of fish. It’s all fantastic, fish pie or sharing platter, did I mention the clams? There’s so much fabulously fresh sea food...cooked perfectly. It’s always a bit better than you remember, generous helpings and served with a smile. A dozen oysters, every one plump and fresh, and served up,just as they should be. We went in twice last week for my birthday, it’s a four hour drive but it’s so good it’s worth it. We stayed overlooking the harbour, a five minute walk from the Magpie. Don’t be afraid, try the seafood, don’t just stick to the fish and chips, the real delight is the rest of the menu, spoil yourself, do the platter, try the oysters, eat the crab, gorge yourself on mussels. You won’t regret it…More

Deliciously fresh cod with chips and Magpie's pickled egg! Excellent service with a smile on a drizzly day. Good choice of wine by the glass carafe or bottle.

Just about the best fish & chips I've tasted, so lovely, would recommend to anyone. Just one thing, you have to queue to get in as I don't believe you can book. Having said all this I've been twice and never waiting longer than 5-10...minutes..... It's worth the wait !!!More

Best fish and chips had for a very long time. Especially the chips which often let down the fish, not here though. Excellent service in lovely surroundings

Don’t know about parking but I remember quite a few steps to the dining room in the Magpie, not sure if there is any seating downstairs. Perhaps speak to them in advance if stairs are a problem
