Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After coming to Whitby for years and never being able to get a table as a walk in, me and my partner made sure to book. When we arrived for our booking, excited as we’d heard good things. We opened the door to staff stood...looking puzzled as to why we were there. As they looked puzzled I asked if they were open, they replied ‘we’re just discussing if we are or not, one of the chef has gone to a&e, you haven’t got a booking have you?’ We were sent on our way. Which fair enough, if a member of staff has been sent home, it’s a stress. But I am an ex assistant manager of a very busy restaurant and now a chef in the kitchen… I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous - cancelling service because there is one man down. I was very disappointed as it was a busy Friday and we couldn’t get in anywhere else to eat, after being dressed up and ready for a nice evening meal with my partner, fish and chips wasn’t really going to cut it. Won’t try againMore

Came here on our first night to Whitby after hearing recommendations and we really enjoyed it. We had some olives to start with followed by the seafood pizza and prawn salad all cooked lovely, good sized portions and tasted delicious. Didn’t give a full 5...as did have to catch servers eye a few times to come to us rather than her checking on us, up on the balcony(& we would have brought more drinks too had she done so) but overall good experience and would recommend!More

Food was reasonable but what ruined it was the removal of the offer without advising us. We saw an offer on Monday night at 5pm on the restaurant window which showed BOGOF on Tuesdays. We booked that evening for the next day for 6 for...a family meal. The offer was not granted and we were told it was in the small print that half term was excluded. We have the photo of the offer from the window which makes no reference to this. I feel sorry for the girls fronting this as the nasty angry owner just barked these rubbish lies to them to say to customers . Cost us extra £45 and was not worth it . Avoid until the owner learns about customer service.More

Booked to go for my birthday. As always Moutreys did not disappoint. We shared a starter of the special spicy chicken wings which were delicious. For mains my hubby had a seafood pizza which is topped with whatever came in on that day’s catch, so...is different every time. I had lasagne which was piping hot and delicious. Gary, your team did you proud again! Our favourite place to eat in Whitby, we book every time we stay and will continue to do so. Would recommend to anyone who likes excellent home cooked Italian inspired dishesMore

We called in without a booking on a quiet midweek evening There was a nice cosy atmosphere and a great menu. Prawn pizza freshly cooked in the pizza oven was superb. Draught Black Sheep was an unexpected bonus !! Would highly recommend.

Came for a birthday meal. Four of us in total. We chose two of the specials - one was pork steak with garlic mushrooms and chorizo and black pudding roast potatoes - delicious. Other special was a salmon bake. Two others were pizzas and all...were lovely. Puddings were good too. Great atmosphere and everyone joined in the happy birthday afterwards. Will definitely come again.More

Lucky enough to get a table for NY Eve. Great food - the meatballs were so tasty. Service was amazing - especially as the place was full. Lovely vibe inside the restaurant - can’t recommend it enough if you are in Whitby. Thanks for a...great evening.More

Booked this restaurant while visiting for the Krampus Run. We had a table on the mezzanine so a lovely vantage point of the restaurant below and the wood burning pizza oven. Really cozy. A really cosy the waiting on staff were attentive throughout. Although there...were no vegan options on the menu, which would have been a plus, the chef was more than accommodating to make a pasta dish of my choice with lovely fresh ingredients. It was delicious, but an unnecessarily humongous portion! (for me anyway) and sadly I was unable to eat it all. The tomato garlic bread was equally tasty as was my partners Americano pizza.More

Lovely atmosphere and we thought the food was great. I had chicken and mushroom fusilli which was tasty and massive. My husband had lasagna which he said was delicious - also massive. Friendly staff.

The best pizzas we have ever tasted. The flavours were amazing, the fresh vegetables used were fantastic and they don't hold back on toppings. If I come back to Whitby I'm heading straight here for dinner

When we mentioned where we going to our taxi driver he said good luck with that.... We were seated in the centre of the restaurant with a view out to some kind of yard alley/way with drains and all sorts of rubbish. It was also...fairly chilly we asked for the door to be closed and were told it wasnt possible as the kitchen got too hot. We then asked to move tables and were told that was not possible as they were booked later in the evening. Food was average at best and service needs attention we asked 3 times for the bill then had to ask to actually pay. we called someone over who kindly brought the card machine. As we put our coats on to leave the other waitress rather loudly asked 'excuse me but have you paid'. Very unprofessional. We would also say the restaurant had very little kerb appeal unlike some other places in the town and was fairly shabby inside with peeling wallpaper.More

Friends recommended this as their favourite place to eat in Whitby, so glad they did! We are their last night I had the pork steak special and my son had the Margherita pizza both were absolutely lovely, freshly prepared to order. My son had the...elderflower and mint sorbet with some vanilla ice cream, he said it was really nice too. The waitress greeted us , we were the first people to arrive after they had opened so she was most helpful getting us a table on the mezzanine which allowed my son with autism to not feel he was overwhelmed. All the staff were polite and seeing their positive interaction and teamwork as they prepared the food was a joy. We live 25 miles away and will deffo be back soon 🙏🙏More
