As food goes i havent had better for a long time. This was a family outing with the wife and mother in law pre theatre meal. There are two menus but we plumpted for the set meal priced at 13 pounds for two courses. 19 for the 3 courses. There was a good variety of choice but not to much. I started with the brie and it was cooked perfect cant say i had better. Then went on to the sea bass on sweet potato puree. Side order of green beans. Again everything was cooked perfect. The good lady and her mother went for different chicken dishes and they really enjoyed there meals. Portion sizes were good my fish was just right however the mother inlaw and ghe wife struggled with the size and didnt leave room for a sweet which they were looking forward to. So everything great the staff were attentative allowing space and time inbetween courses but there when you needed them just right. So why only 4 stars not 5 well this was out of the control of the owners due to the building the toilets were down stairs a real struggle for an 87 year old lady and also very high step into the building again a bit of a struggle for disabled people. I wouldnt hasitate to go back prices staff and food all great.

Two friends booked to go to Rustique on the 9th Jan before we arrived in York.Four main courses, four desserts and two bottles of wine for £100 which we thought good value. Service was excellent, there was a nice atmosphere and unobtrusive background music. Flavours were good but perhaps the pancakes had been pre cooked and heated up.Try not to sit too close to the door because on a cold York evening, large groups kept the single door open for long periods and we were tempted to put our coats back on.

COVID-19 afternoon lunch, we were granted a table for 2 even though we hadn’t booked ahead. We had a nice table downstairs and there were very few other diners in there but it was around 3pm so we had missed the usual peak times. I ordered the onion soup and the tagine either the addition of lamb. My partner ordered the Brie followed by the prawn linguine. The starters arrived and were very nice albeit my soup was soup of the day and not the onion soup I was looking forward to. The main courses were nice as well but again a mistake made as there was no lamb in my tagine. I’m sure the waitress took down my order correctly so I can only assume the error was made in the kitchen. I still enjoyed my visit and the cost would have been acceptable even without the assistance of the chancellor’s £20 discount. A tip was left as the staff were very attentive and helpful just wish I had got my onion soup.

Eat out to help out!!! Yes ok, I don't mind helping out Rustique any time. Once again a fabulous meal,. My belated birthday lunch postponed from May was out of this world thank you so much. The service was outstanding, the food mmmm I had champignons a'lail followed by poulet facon bretonne and my partner devoured boulettes d'agneau followed buy steak frites both from the set lunch menu. That we only paid half the usual price felt wrong, I hope the government reimbursement you asap.

This was my favourite dining experience in my 3 night stay in York. As a solo customer, this is where I received the best service. I walked-in early evening (tip for solo customers, treat yourself to an early dinner e.g. 5pm-6pm before the rush of diners and you’ll almost always get a spot at even the most popular places), and was shown to a comfortable tucked away table looking out over the restaurant. The front of house waiter went above and beyond to ensure I felt welcomed and just as valued as the pairs and groups in the restaurant. They encouraged me take my time to enjoy my meal and put a massive smile on my face, which of course, resulted in me spending more. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere was relaxed and full of laughter, which, observing the room, was in major part because the lead waiter took the time to make everyone smile with his excellent service. Warm decor and ambiance,it’s easy to see that this restaurant would be a great location for dates, friends, families and even the solo customer. There’s three floors, including a terrace, so plenty of space too. I had the duck break and tarte tatin - both delicious.

Used the Lendal Rustique restaurant, our first visit on Saturday 19th September it was stood we used it again on Monday 21st too. The setting, the food and the two ladies who served us downstairs were all fantastic. Great menu selection, Al La Carte or Set menu to choose from. The two Rustique restaurants are a must if you like good food are a must given the quality of food and the extremely reasonable price for a city centre restaurant. Would highly recommend.

We were seated upstairs, and the restaurant itself is lovely decor with a nice atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and friendly, which always adds to a good meal. We decided to get the set menu, which includes either 2 or 3 courses for a set price. We opted for the 3 courses for £19.95 which in my opinion is excellent pricing for the quality and amount of food you get. The pan fried mushrooms (champignons à l’ail) that I had for starters were divine, hands down one of the best starters I’ve had, especially with French bread. My main was lovely, I opted for steak frites while my friend had the leg of duck (confit de canard) and we both agreed they were great. The fries that came with my steak were amazingly crispy! The selection of mains included in the set menu is quite varied, with 14 different options so most likely something for everyone. Finally, we both had a chocolate pot with shortbread for dessert, which was very rich but yummy- though the stand out part of the dessert was hands down the shortbread. The best I’ve ever tried, if they made a dessert with just 4 of those shortbreads and a chocolate dipping sauce I’d be happy. I’d highly recommend Rustique if you want great food for a good price point!

We are a mixed group of 7 between the ages of 57 to 70, we had booked this restaurant well in advance of New Year Eve not really knowing what the restrictions would entail ( with the pandemic) hoping they would not have to close. It was very easy to book on their website and we booked at a time which enabled us to take advantage of choosing from the set menu if we wanted to, which was very reasonably priced and lots of choices. We was seated upstairs and the surroundings was very nice it did feel special plenty of room and very good lighting. The food was excellent and service was too. We would definitely recommend this restaurant and we would most definitely book a meal here again if was to visit York again.

We had a lovely 3 course lunch here. There are so many options on the set menu at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere was lovely; we sat upstairs which was very light and there was a nice view. The only negative was we were rushed to order to start with even though we said several times we’d like another ten minutes as we came as a group and were all chatting. We had already been advised there was a 2 hour time limit on the table so we felt we didn’t need this reinforcing. Overall most of the staff were very friendly and good humoured!

As you walk in it seems like a bar-ish place. We sat upstairs - 3 courses £19.99 wowowow fantastic food, lots of options, food tasted very good and cooked completely to a good standard, i’m sure the chef has a class of standards! Service was good too, think family run, well greeted and so polite, the service was spot on from the managers. Nice and cosy, value for money, very decent place to eat. Hope it does well this restaurant, fantastic!!!

We were a family group looking for somewhere special to celebrate our son’s graduation and were so happy with our choice of ‘Le Rustique’. We opted for the three-course set meal, which had a very comprehensive selection of choices. For starters we sampled the moules, the pate, the lamb kebabs and the onion soup. Portion sizes were generous and everyone raved about the flavours. We were equally impressed with our mains, all of which seemed authentically French. The duck, in particular, was highly praised by a couple of our party who chose it, and my husband says that the rare steak he requested was possibly the best he’s eaten (and he’s eaten a great many in different countries!). He can’t understand how a steak that good could be part of such a reasonably priced set menu. Puddings were delicious also... the banana crepe was voted best pudding in our group, but for me the cheeseboard is always a winner. Thank you for a really happy, delicious and incredibly good value occasion!

My wife and I enjoyed our meal in this restaurant which definitely has an authentic French bistro feel. The decor and the food transports you over the English Channel All the staff were most helpful and knowledgeable about the food. My starter of real French Onion soup was almost a meal in itself and my duck leg was beautifully cooked. Wine list had a wide choice in both varieties and price point. The covid disciplines were well adhered to and the tables well spaced. We were impressed by the way the staff took great care over sanitising salt & peppers, menus etc etc after use and the general cleanliness of the whole place. Strongly recommended.

1st time at this venue (have previously been to the Lendal Rustique) to celebrate our Son's 21st Birthday. We hadn't booked due to a last minute change of plans and so took a chance and walked in at 12 noon. Quickly shown to our table by a lovely member of staff. Beautiful decor, comfy seats and lovely atmosphere. Music not too loud. Really felt very special and was perfect for a celebration. We were promptly given glasses of water with ice and lemon while we looked at the menu. My son ordered a starter and a waitress brought out side plates for us in case we wanted to share which I thought was a nice touch. We did! And it was delicious....a baguette oozing with garlic butter. For main course we choose seafood linguine, Rustique burger, Chicken in a creamy sauce with dauphonoise potatoes and I had a bacon, mushroom and sunblushed tomato tart. We all cleared our plates..each dish was perfect. My husband and dad both ordered dessert whilst my Son and I ordered a pot of tea. To our surprise the waitresses brought a piece of cheesecake for my Son and sang Happy Birthday to him. All in all a lovely experience, a delicious meal, perfect surroundings and welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back next time we visit York. Thank you to all the staff for the experience. I always review toilets and access due to my limited mobility. A step into the restaurant. The toilets are down a short flight of stairs, not too steep and there is a handrail. The toilets were nice and clean.

Having read some glowing reviews I had high expectations for our meal at Rustique. Unfortunately however it didn't really deliver. Although the staff were efficient, they didn't engage with us and seemed rushed at all times. Even as the busy service slowed down, their approach was hurried like a fast food joint. My chosen wine was unavailable; my specials starter (Frogs legs) looked bought-in; my entrecote steak was large but lacked the depth of flavour expected from rib-eye, and had the Diane sauce slathered over the top rather than in a side dish. Biggest surprise of all those was my banana and crepe dessert arriving at the table less than 3 minutes after ordering, clearly pre-bought and microwaved (as was my wife's creme brulee). The place needs some investment and the menu needs freshened up with higher quality, freshly prepared ingredients. I understand that the French bistro concept is different from more formal restaurant settings, but Rustique lacked personality and came over as a chain restaurant rather than a private one. On the basis of our visit, it needs to take a look at itself.
