All reviews suggest this is a fantastic restaurant and it did not disappoint. Fabulous atmosphere, perfect just-attentive-enough service with great food and a lively, relaxed atmosphere. One of my top tens. Linguine absolutely delicious.

I booked this restaurant as lots of people said it was good so I booked 4 weeks ago and could only get the one available time as all day Saturday and all day Sunday other than our booking was fully booked. So i thought great...it’s obviously very good as it is so busy. And it was for a special occasion as it was our mums 60th birthday. Firstly when we arrived a gentleman greeted us and we told him our time booking and he told us we was early and they could make a different table up that was fine but we was early by 5 minutes. Then we got our drinks and ordered our food. Four out of the five opted for the set menu deal and one choose from the main menu. Upon taking our order I felt that the waitress was giving the impression that she wasn’t happy to wait while some was still deciding what they wanted. The starters came for four of us but we had to wait at least 5 mins for the other person’s to be brought out. The mains came only down side is not vegetables with the steak and chips and sauce is what you get. We ordered some more drinks they took a while to be served to us. And then we got the sticky toffee puddings and the cheese board which was lovely. I did put a note on the special request box on the booking that it was for our mums 60th birthday. But they didn’t even acknowledge it. Which is really disappointing. After this experience I don’t think I would return as I personally think there is much nicer restaurants in yorkMore
This restaurant is now our family favourite when in York. Yet another gorgeous meal, fabulous food, great atmosphere and fabulous staff. The set menu is great value with fantastic choice.
The restaurant is beautiful, the ambience is all very rustic French bistro. Lovely art, music and decor. The food was hit and miss. My partner had mussels to start which were perfect. I had the pate which was very nice also. For mains he had...what was advertised as cassoulet which was disappointing as it wasn't a traditional cassoulet as he expected. My partner is half French by birth and after enjoying his mussels he was really excited for the cassoulet but it didn't hit the spot. It contained tomatoes, celery and carrots making it taste more like an English soup. The Meat was not cured. The sausage was not a toulouse sausage, instead they used a spicy sausage with chilli's. The flavours were not that of a traditional cassoulet which was disappointing. The dish was not bad, just not what was expected. I ordered the pork belly which was tasty however when giving our order to the waiter, I requested no mustard sauce as I have a food intolerance. The waiter seemed quite annoyed that I had made this request and every time he came to our table to take drinks orders etc. He seemed quite disinterested, abrupt and miserable which put a real dampner on the experience. All in all the service really let down the experience, I don't expect restaurant staff to make me feel unwelcome when asking for my food to be served without a sauce (It was as if I'd demanded chicken nuggets from a menu serving only authentic French cuisine). The food was overall tasty but the cassoulet wasn't as enjoyable as if it would have been if cooked the traditional way. We won't return due to the service but hope it was just an off day for that member of staff.More
Family meeting in a central point, York. We have been to Rustique in the past and pleased that its standards seem to have been maintained. Busy lunchtime. Service efficient but not rushed. Menu large, and the large set menu satisfied us all. We had a...wide variety of dishes, all of which satisfied. One slight no vote for the red cabbage which was felt to be too acidic/vinegary. Large mainly French wine list. A pleasant languedoc red pleased. Prices very acceptable. A good visit.More
You must book otherwise you could be disappointed. Booked a table for two today for lunch for my sister and I. Unfortunately she was unable to make it so I was on my own. No problem as far as the restaurant was concerned. Always book...in here if I’m in York. Excellent food and SERVICE as always !!More
Good, central, location. This place has the same menu more or less all year, but the choice is good and quality always high. It is traditional French cooking, well done. House wines very good - just as in similar restaurants in France. The place is...popular as it deserves to be, and you'll need to book.More
Very impressed!! We arrived for a pre theatre meal and when we sat down we were a bit worried that as it was so busy with everyone else doing the same we may not get through our meal in time for the theatre. How wrong...we were, the service was quietly efficient and we were fed and watered from the two course set menu without feeling rushed or having to chase our orders. Christina was a star in running the section so efficiently. The set menu is good value for money and the food was tasty and well presented. Very coeliac friendly as well with gluten free dishes and gluten free options on others. Great service, great value for money and tasty food…what more do you want?? Thank you David and CatherineMore
1st visit to this place and it didn't dissapoint. We'd looked at the menu before arriving and knew we would struggle to choose our main meal because there is so many different meat dishes to choose from. We arrived and was taken to our table,...the place is lovley and well set out. I asked for a bottle of red wine, told the lady what we like and asked if she could recommend one, she did and it was lovley and to our taste. I had the pate and my husband had the French onion soup which he said was the best he'd ever had then I had the venison my husband the aged ribeye steak, both melt in the mouth and cooked perfectly. I had sticky toffee pudding and my husband the apple tart tartan, both delicious 😋 overall experience was perfect. The place atmosphere, service, food, wine, couldn't fault it, we will definitely be going back to try some of the other dishes😋😋More
Me and my partner went here and it was ANAZING, we ordered off the set menu and it was fantastic, the food was great as well as the service.my partner had the onion soup to start with which tasted fantastic,I chose not to have the...starter and to have a desert which I chose the stick toffee and it was the best I’ve ever tasted!for the main I had the chicken in mushroom and leak sauce and my Partner had the steak.. it was 10/10. We will definitely visit next time we visit YorkMore
Delicate & delicious, this meal was simply superb. Great options on the menu and an exquisite wine list, all reasonably priced. Average service. Lacked care and attention to the table. We’ll be back again for the food!
We loved our first visit to Rustique whilst in York. Our meals were all delicious, especially the French onion soup, baked camembert, pork belly and fillet steak ! We will definitely be back and absolutely recommend this lovely restaurant if you are in York.
Came here after reading all the great reviews and we weren't disappointed. Fantastic set lunch menu with so much choice! We had fishcake and French onion soup to start and also a side of garlic bread which tasted like a loaf had been dipped into...a vat of garlic butter. It was amazing. Mussels and oeuf a la basque for mains and I had sticky toffee pudding. Our favourite meal we had in York!!More
Been trying to get booked in to this restaurant for many years, always tried to get in while in town to no avail,so this time decided to book, was definitely worth the wait absolutely fantastic food even ordered something not on the menu and they obliged,both...me and my lovely wife felt the service and the food were outstanding, would we return absolutely yesMore
Classic French dishes well prepared and presented. We particularly enjoyed the scallops and the onion soup. Quite a formal atmosphere in a very Gallic setting.
