The worst experience ever in my life ! I could write a book all day about what's happened: 1. Booked table and the restaurant was full of 20 kids screaming and they were with just 2 adults who didn't care about they're behaviour or how...loud they were talking, never mind they're kids 2. The 2 Staff were non professional dropping some faces they didn't even want to be there ! 3. The food was horrible , overpriced and the customer service was terrible 4. The "lady" who was serving us she ignored us the whole time , why ? Why you work there if you don't like it?! 5. She never came to ask how the food was , considering the Chicken was stale , 2 tiny slices of chicken with sauce and mushrooms £17 !!!! After i tried it i couldn't even swallow, smell really bad and i wave at her at least 10 times , being seated in a corner where you could see me she was always ignoring me , finnaly the other staff male came with such a disturbing attitude towards me and ask me what's wrong? What's wrong ? Well considering the food was never checked back guess what ? The meal was awuful and i was triyng to explain it that why they're ignoring us ,He told me that they're busy and it's not only me in the restaurant!! What ? After my sister wanted to find out the name of the waitress she asked why 4 times , because we want to make a formal complaint to the owner so he will know too . After my husband said to him bring the bill so we can leave then he started be agressive towards us and tell us get out , then myself i got really upset as bear in mind i did not eat ? This is so frustrating when he said get out few times , how you dare to kick customers out when all we really wanted is to LISTEN TO MYSELF AND APOLOGISE TO ME NICELY AS I KNOW ITS NOT YOUR FAULT ABOUT THE FOOD ! WE KNOW HOW FRUSTRATED YOU AND THE OTHER ONE WERE NOT HAPPY TO WORK THERE ! We know that you are understaff but this doesn't give you the right to scream to me and point finger in my face like a boss ! I lived in Italy for 6 years and i heard you when you swear to me ! Then he told us to get out and called us SCAMMERS ? WE HAD MONEY TO PAY YOU ! DO not go in this restaurant as they are rude with you and they don't care about your food ! Arrivederci That's why , and wMore

I have rated Valentino's 4 based on my family group's experience, not just my own. My experience I would not have rated so highly. When we arrived at Valentino's on Friday night at 7.45pm, the restaurant was very busy with a very large group finishing...their meals. We did not mind the wait to order. The house red wine was good. Two of our group had sea bass, and they said it was very nice. I had chosen the menu from TripAdvisor as I filtered on vegan options. There were no vegan options on the menu. I asked the waiter what I could have, and he went to ask the chef and returned to say spaghetti in tomato sauce. I am surprised that in 2024, Valentino's did not have at least one or two plant based options on the menu. At the end of the meal, I asked whether I could have a coffee with plant based milk and was advised that they didn't have any type of dairy alternative. My other family members enjoyed their meals, and I was just disappointed that there was no real provision for plant based diners.More

I looked on Trip Advisor for a good restaurant near where we were staying at the Ibis and this restaurant popped up. We had a very nice meal - and the service was friendly and efficient. The tables are marble and the decor quite sumptious...and it was a pleasant eating experience.More

My husband and I were staying at Hotel du vin , almost opposite Valentino’s After reading the reviews we decided to eat here on our second night in York. So glad we did as it is amazing Friendly staff welcoming you Even though when we...arrived it was quiet, by the time we left it was almost full. For a good reason , the food is incredible I had the lobster ravioli which was in the most delicious sauce I’ve ever tasted Fantastic atmosphere 100% recommend and cannot wait to return .More

First time visiting. I have passed it so many times and finally got around to booking it for my birthday. We were not disappointed. The service was good. It had a busy, bustling atmosphere. It felt really authentic and had background music playing to add...to the ambience. We had starters and mains. They were all fantastic. Delicious food and red hot until the very last bite. We will definitely be back. My husband said it was the best Italian he’d ever been to!! A little gem of a place. Definitely worth a try 😍More

This is our favourite restaurant to visit when staying in York. It's like restaurants used to be, before Covid, the tight labour market, and food inflation. Classic Italian food and decor, and just a great family experience. Our last visit in January certainly didn't disappoint....Staff are so well-drilled and there is a very high standard of service, timing for orders and check backs perfect, nothing too much trouble. The menu is quite wide but there is a great specials menu with some real treats. We loved the lobster ravioli and the chicken Valentino, and lemon sorbet served in its skin. We had a lovely bottle of Gavi with our meal. Everything was excellent value; in fact we would rather you put up your prices so we know you will be here next year! Espresso for under £2 is not available anywhere in York that I know of. We love Valentinos!More

New Year’s Eve Meal. A group of us decided to stay in York and booked this restaurant for a meal. The food was delicious and the staff very helpful. Unfortunately the restaurant is small so felt rather claustrophobic.

Fantastic food and friendly service. We came with a party of 11 and despite this size provided us a great experience. The highlight is the quality, authenticity and freshness of the food I recommend the goats cheese to start and lasagne for main. Good prices...and generous portion sizes. Will come again if we are in YorkMore

Great place to eat, weather was shocking and stumbled across this place as across the road from the hotel. So glad we did, food was great and really good portions, atmosphere was really good. Staff were on it didn’t miss a trick and very friendly....There wasn’t a spare seat in the place and the coped brilliantly at max capacity. Would recommend for sure. And bless them gave us a Christmas wrapped Panettone what was lush as well.More

The meal at Valentino's was a tale of two halves. Fantastic food, iffy service. It certainly didn't have that warm Italian hospitality that you expect. But I'll start with the positives; great atmosphere, very hustle and bustle, I like that. The food was really great,...to start a basket of gorgeous complimentary oven warm bread landed on our table, yes please! Then starters were a lovely crisp and tasty garlic pizza bread and the salmon & prawn cocktail was super - plenty of it, leaves dressed well, really great. Main courses for my friends were carbonara & spaghetti bolognaise, both of which were enjoyed, the spag bol to me looked particularly good. My main of chicken skewer with BBQ sauce was good. My only gripe was that I asked to swap the roast potatoes and roast vegetables for salad and was quite harshly refused and told I had to purchase the salad. I explained that I wouldn't eat the potatoes and veg so they didn't need to serve it so should be cost neutral to them. I was told No in a very unprofessional manner and that I would be told the same at any other restaurant and this is how things are done. The naivety of the waitress to think that I have never eaten out before, is a bit disappointing. It's not 'how things are done everywhere', I can assure you and anyone with a little bit of common sense would realise the request is not unreasonable, doesn't cost them anything and with minimal effort would be something that would add to the diners experience and encourage them to return. Anyway, I conceded as it was clear she was standing her ground and i paid for a salad. I did say i wouldn't need the potatoes and veg and she said she would HAVE to send them out. I told her again I wouldn't need it and she told me to give it to my friends. I gave up the discussion, it was getting painful. Sure enough the potatoes & veg came out, friends didn't want it, so I told the male waiter (possibly manager or owner) that it wasn't needed - he looked surprised. As i said before, we tucked in to the meal and it was great. We waited quite a while to get a second round of drinks, we had to catch the attention of a waitress sometime after our glasses were empty. Also took a long time to get the bill... which took up any chance of a dessert. I will say though, they were VERY busy and the more experienced of the waitresses (responsible for salad gate) seemed to be doing ALL of the work herself. The male manager like chap was very good at looking busy, but was lingering around an awful lot. The younger waitress seemed new and lost, but once we asked her for drinks it become apparent she spoke very little English which would explain the 'lost' appearance. The salad gate waitress had to take over the drinks order due to the language barrier. She was truly rushed off her feet and working really hard to keep up. So perhaps this might explain why she was unable to apply some common sense to my reasonable request... no time to think! It's clearly a popular restaurant and the food was really good but if they are interested in improving, true customer service and warm Italian hospitality could use some work.More
