Great food. Had main and sweet. Good prices. Staff polite and courtious. Good location. Busy even on a Sunday night.

The meal at Valentino's was a tale of two halves. Fantastic food, iffy service. It certainly didn't have that warm Italian hospitality that you expect. But I'll start with the positives; great atmosphere, very hustle and bustle, I like that. The food was really great,...to start a basket of gorgeous complimentary oven warm bread landed on our table, yes please! Then starters were a lovely crisp and tasty garlic pizza bread and the salmon & prawn cocktail was super - plenty of it, leaves dressed well, really great. Main courses for my friends were carbonara & spaghetti bolognaise, both of which were enjoyed, the spag bol to me looked particularly good. My main of chicken skewer with BBQ sauce was good. My only gripe was that I asked to swap the roast potatoes and roast vegetables for salad and was quite harshly refused and told I had to purchase the salad. I explained that I wouldn't eat the potatoes and veg so they didn't need to serve it so should be cost neutral to them. I was told No in a very unprofessional manner and that I would be told the same at any other restaurant and this is how things are done. The naivety of the waitress to think that I have never eaten out before, is a bit disappointing. It's not 'how things are done everywhere', I can assure you and anyone with a little bit of common sense would realise the request is not unreasonable, doesn't cost them anything and with minimal effort would be something that would add to the diners experience and encourage them to return. Anyway, I conceded as it was clear she was standing her ground and i paid for a salad. I did say i wouldn't need the potatoes and veg and she said she would HAVE to send them out. I told her again I wouldn't need it and she told me to give it to my friends. I gave up the discussion, it was getting painful. Sure enough the potatoes & veg came out, friends didn't want it, so I told the male waiter (possibly manager or owner) that it wasn't needed - he looked surprised. As i said before, we tucked in to the meal and it was great. We waited quite a while to get a second round of drinks, we had to catch the attention of a waitress sometime after our glasses were empty. Also took a long time to get the bill... which took up any chance of a dessert. I will say though, they were VERY busy and the more experienced of the waitresses (responsible for salad gate) seemed to be doing ALL of the work herself. The male manager like chap was very good at looking busy, but was lingering around an awful lot. The younger waitress seemed new and lost, but once we asked her for drinks it become apparent she spoke very little English which would explain the 'lost' appearance. The salad gate waitress had to take over the drinks order due to the language barrier. She was truly rushed off her feet and working really hard to keep up. So perhaps this might explain why she was unable to apply some common sense to my reasonable request... no time to think! It's clearly a popular restaurant and the food was really good but if they are interested in improving, true customer service and warm Italian hospitality could use some work.More

The food in this establishment is amazing and very reasonable. Despite only 2 people waiting on the service was slick. Will be back when visiting York next time.
We had a fabulous meal here. I had the Pollo Valentino (chicken stuffed with Ricotta cheese, wrapped in pancetta in a red wine sauce)Mum had Ravioli Genovese and my husband had Gamberoni Aragosta (king prawns in a fresh cream lobster sauce). We all agreed it...was the best Italian meal we’ve had in a long time.More
Valentino’s must be one of the most authentic restaurants I have visited in such a long time, the decor, surroundings, atmosphere and staff are 100 % Italian, the entire restaurant is run very efficiently and is beautifully presented and all areas are spotlessly clean. The...service was first class and very friendly and the main part the food was some of the best I have enjoyed, it was very well presented and tasted fantastic, we dined on Risotto, Calzone, sweets and drinks and were very impressed with the cost so much so that we thought they had made a mistake but for £55 we were very happy, I would encourage people to book as on the Saturday night we were there it was bursting at the seams but they took everything very calmly and the service never wained, a truly nice experience, well done.More
The most perfect Italian restaurant, Myself and My husband dined at Valentino’s on Saturday night, the staff was very welcoming, polite and went that extra mile to make our experience memorable. The food was superb, I ordered a calzone with a side of chips, my...husband ordered duck. The portion sizes were very generous and the food was amazing, it’s the best calzone I have ever tasted. The atmosphere is very relaxed and calm, the perfect place for a date night, family meal or special occasion. We will definitely be back, Thank you to all the staff for such a wonderful night.More
This restaurant was located opposite our hotel, and after a long day seeing the sights and walking miles we decided we didn’t want to go too far to eat. There was a good specials menu but we both opted for tagliatelle Amatriciana which was really...delicious and full of flavour. Although not on the dessert menu I asked if affogato might be available and it was the best I’ve had. House wine was very reasonably priced for a large glass & very drinkable. The staff were very pleasant & attentive, I’m sure we will come backMore
I recently dined at Valentinos with friends .The portions were impressively large .I ordered fillet steak with aragosta sauce and it was delicious . Highly recommending this restaurant in York
Went to Valentinos on Saturday (23/9/23) with family for dinner during our stay in York. There were 12 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food and the experience. The waiters were very nice and friendly and the place was very clean and had...a good atmosphere. Would recommend you try it.More
Very disappointing. Staff didn’t seem interested. Food was very basic. I gave it a 1 star and that was for the garlic bread which was passable, everything else wasn’t great. I ordered a calzone which was dressed in a tinned tomato sauce. My husband had...steak in a brandy and pepper sauce which had no flavour and I’m guessing wasn’t freshly made either.More

I had a fantastic dining experience at Valentino’s . The lamb ravioli and seafood salad were exceptional. The flavors were amazing, and the dishes were expertly prepared. The ambiance was cozy, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend trying their lamb ravioli and seafood...salad – they're a must-try! Can't wait to go back for more.More
Staff very polite and helpful. Nice atmosphere and decor. Poor food. Everything tasted foisty/off. Paid 50 pounds for one ravioli dish and one steak dish with two drinks but left half way through eating meal as food was terrible. I then was up all night...with a bad stomachMore
Gorgeous food!! I had seafood salad from special menu and it was absolutely gorgeous and the price for what you get is and absolute bargain. 🤍 always great to come back, service is always amazing. They even went beyond and above to make two small pizzas...for my kids instead of one big to share! 🤍More
Happened to stumble across this restaurant on our walk into the city centre. Booked for dinner. It was so good we booked for the following night. This is a gem of a place. Everything was excellent, including the price. Front of house and staff were...so friendly and attentive. Unfortunately on our first night we were unable to finish our main course as we’d unfortunately had a main meal at lunchtime. The remainder of our meal was packed so we could finish it later on. Nothing was too much trouble. We had steak the second night which was cooked to perfection and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the ambience of the place. Just sorry our stay didn’t stretch to another night!! Thank you to all who made our experience so enjoyable. We will be back!! Belisimo.More
