During these tough times it is wonderful to have such authentic italian food available as takeaway. I was nervous that bringing it home would take the edge off what is normally an excellent restaurant but I had no need to worry. Picked up exactly on time having parked right outside. The friendly staff put in a free few bottles of beer for the key workers in the family. Nice touch. The pizzas were great, the cheesy garlic bread excellent and the oven baked casa rustico delicious and piping hot. We over ordered with starters for 4 people and 4 mains but at £50 it was excellent. It is important to support restaurants now so they are still there in the future. I hope they continue to do takeaway after lockdown finishes! Handy hint: put the oven on before you pick up and give the pizzas a 5 minute blast.

We were having a drink quite close to the restaurant and asked a member of staff if there were any good Italian restaurants in York, he recommended one a bit out of the centre, Marzano was 50 yards away and so we looked in and at the menu, it looked good! Anyway, walked to the one recomended and it didn't look as good (or did the dish I was looking forward to) and so we walked back, much to my wife's annoyance. However, at the the end she was really glad we did! Had a delicious goats cheese starter, big enough to share and linguine bolognese from the two course option, great value at £14.95 and I had a superb seafood ravioli, all washed down with a good Pino. The staff were exceptional and attentive (to all tables) and were really keen to know what you thought. Can't recommend highly enough

I ate here with my 2 sons (13 and 11). There was a good choice of food, we had 2 starters between us to share and the waiting staff bought over extra plates without being asked. We had the calamari and prawns and both were very tasty. We all had pasta dishes for a main. The sea food that the 11 year old looked lovely. I was expecting him not to like it as it was full of mussels and other foods he hadn't had before, but he loved it. Anticipating that I would have to swap with him I had the carbonara which was very pleasant. Other son went for the bolognaise and ate it all. It's rare they have completely clean plates when going for an adult meal. They had a choice of icecream afterwards whilst I had tiramisu which again I'd recommend if it's on the specials menu. The staff were all attentive without being too over the top, and chatted with the kids. I'd happily return if we go back to York. For the 3 of us for the 3 courses and drinks it was about £90.

My wife and I chose Marzano for an evening meal to celebrate my birthday. Mid-January is always a tricky time for a memorable dining experience but we believe Marzano could do better. The prosecco aperitif was lacking in taste and sparkle suggesting it had been open for some time. The garlic and tomato pizza bread appetiser didn’t have any garlic taste and the tomato was an apology for how true Italian tomatoes should taste. The fried brie starter was tasty and enjoyable. My wife chose the sea bass main, which was tasty; however, the skin was not crispy and was difficult to separate from the flesh of the fish. I chose casarecce all’arrabbiata, which was al dente and had a wonderful spicy taste; however, whilst the pasta in the centre of the dish was steaming, the pasta away from the centre was quite cool. I was offered parmesan, which I said yes to but it didn’t look (or taste) fresh so had only the lightest sprinkle. We chose a bottle of primitivo to accompany the meal; it was fabulous. The staff at Marzano we’re friendly and helpful and did all they could on the night to make it a good experience but we believe it was the kitchen that didn’t deliver what was expected. On the way to Marzano from our hotel and on our way back from Marzano to our hotel we passed another Italian trattoria and on both occasions we noticed it was full to capacity; by contrast, Marzano was very quiet. We will be likely to try the other Italian trattoria next time we visit York.

We booked this well in advance following the reviews on TA, we booked it for our first night in York , Mon 4th Aug , it was busy and we were given a table for two slap bang in the middle of the restaurant , not to our taste so we requested a table at the sides there were 4 or 5 empty ones and to their credit we were given one. We ordered diner and it was brought out swiftly , I had a starter of squid and my wife had some bread and butter , no problem with this , my main of Sea food Risotto and my wife’s Spaghetti Bolognese were prompt which was good because it was filling up . If we didn’t know any better we would have sworn both dishes were starters , the portions were very small , now we are not huge people looking for massive portions but this wasn’t value for money in any language never mind Italian . I asked the waitress if the prawns in the seafood were deshelled when ordering, I Hate having to strip shells from sea food in a restaurant , she said no there are no shells on the prawns , this was of course correct because you do not have to deshell frozen prawns , I can tell the difference between frozen and fresh . No but what was in the shells were the cockles and quite a few of them to beef up the dish , now anyone knows cockles are tiny at the best of times but once you remove from the shell they were almost non existent , the only good part were the muscles, the rice was the smallest portion of rice they could possibly give me without having to change the name of the dish to something else rather than Risotto. My Wife’s Spaghetti Bolognese was of starter proportions and not a lot of beef content there , portion control taking over the business which is a real shame because , it’s a nice restaurant , nice atmosphere , great staff , brilliant location but they need to reevaluate their portions and value for money , sort it out

I recently visited the Marzano with my wife as reading previous reviews they were positive. However we ordered our food and was still sitting there 40 minutes later for my starter! I watched to tables near us arrive after us order their food and have both their starter and main served and we were still sitting there. During this time no-one came to our table to check on us, Only after I prompted did we get service. Apparently our order had got lost! My starter when it did arrive was Mozzarella, Ham and Rocket on bread. I have never seen so much rocket. Our mains arrived shortly afterwards and my wife's meat balls were lukewarm ( I tried them) and the rest of the dish hot. My seafood risotto was bland. We were given a free glass of prosecco each but seemed a cheaper version of what had been ordered earlier. We never stayed for dessert as by this time we just wanted to get away. Staff were friendly but our meal had already been ruined. I was asked when paying whether I wanted to leave a tip. I'll let you answer that one.

This was our first visit to the Marzano and to be honest ot was a great dining experience. We were warmly greeted on our arrival ( do pre book as this restaurant is very popular ) by the chap at front of house ,shown to our table and our waiter took our drinks order ( really tall chap who was absolutely spot on ! ) then we had some foccscia bread & olives whilst we awaited our starters which were the king prawns in a lovely sauce plus goats cheese with caramelized onions with salad on bruschetta. All delicious ... really good. Now for the mains my wife had the sea bass with veg on crushed potatoes and I had the meatballs on rigatoni pasta , both dishes were cooked well and tasted superb but if you had to pick a winner it was the sea bass. The ambiance was nice , decor modern and prices fair so overall I have no hesitation in recommending the Marzano " Magnifico as they say in Italy "

During our weekend in York, we used Trip Adviser to find an Italian restaurant that had been recommended by others, and were not disappointed by this lovely little place. We only just managed to get a table when we walked in at 8pm, as every other party after us were turned away, because they were full booked for the rest of the night - definitely try to book ahead if you're planning on visiting. This is quite a small place, with a lovely atmosphere, fantastic menu and friendly, efficient staff. Our food was delicious and we were very well looked after. A fabulous find!

We went to Marzano on Mon 17th Aug on our trip to York. We'd prebooked the table as there were 8 of us (4 x adults, 4 x kids). The service was very good, the atmosphere was light and comfortable, the food was very good and I felt delivered very quickly considering how busy it was. We all really enjoyed our meals, and with the eat out to help out money off, it was a good price for the family. Loved this restaurant, and would defo go back.

My partner and I went as a birthday treat just before christmas. We booked in advance as we knew it would be busy. Restaurant itself isn't huge so I'd definatly recommend booking to guarentee a table any time of the year. We opted for starters and mains both were delicious. Portions weren't huge which was fine for us as we don't enjoy the feeling of being stuffed. Staff are very accommodating, attentive and made us feel like nothing was too much hassle. Had a lovely night and will return.

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here. The food was great, I had the seafood linguine and my daughter a pizza. Both were delicious and decent value. Service was attentive and friendly. Only minor quibble was being offered olives and bread whilst we perused the menu but found out later it was £6.50. Would have preferred to have been informed, I thought it was an appetiser on the house.

Very busy especially as we visited on a Monday night. Waited (not long) for a table - glad we did. Food was excellent service was spot on and the chefs should be given medals for producing the volume of food at the speed and quality they did in one of the smallest kitchens I've ever seen! Superb ! We'll definitely be visiting again

As huge Italian lovers we can be quite fussy. Excellent service from the start.. we both wanted the same main but the manager helped recommend some great other options, one of which I wanted didn't include meat which i fancied but he was a great help confirming everything is made from fresh and can be added so I had the mushroom ravioli with chicken which was beautiful and my partner had the carbonara with chicken which was amazing. I'd recommend to all. Would love to be more local as we would return regularly if we were. Definitely worth a visit!!

We dined the evening before all restaurants were closed due to the Coronavirus. The restaurant is beautifully decorated & gives off a very welcoming feel. My husband is Coeliac so can only eat gluten free food & this was no problem at all as gluten free pasta & pizza were both available. My husband chose pasta & I had pizza. Both were absolutely delicious. Also my husband could have a gluten free dessert which great as normally his only option is ice cream. The service was very good & very friendly. We will certainly be back once things are back to normal. A very enjoyable evening
