Fantastic fish and chips

Drakes went above and beyond to ensure we had a table away from lots of people with my mum being very unwell. We were seated upstairs and enjoyed wonderful haddock and chips and scampi. My brother lives in London and said it was the best...fish and chips he has had, better than anywhere in the south. A lovely meal. We really appreciated everything the staff did for us. Thank you!More

Best Chippy in York City

Stayed at York for a weekend break. The City was very busy due to the XMas market's etc so we went for a meal into this chippy. We were a party of 4 guests and we say down in the back restaurant area. We had...the cod and chips. The meal was absolutely delicious. Fish was big and full of flavour, the chip's were amazing. The staff were brilliant and the food was served quite quick considering how busy it was. We will definitely go back there again and a big well done to all the staff there. I also overheard a couple from London that were also eating there and he mentioned it's the best fish and chip's that he has ever had :)More

Nice fish n chips

Lovely fish and chips pensioner specials. But, sorry, service charge not given as a choice , too much for little service.

good fish and chips

We discovered Drakes whilst walking round the Christmas market. The is a dining area at the back and we quickly got a table . We both had the Seniors (over 65s) deal - Haddock and chips with a pot of Yorkshire Tea. We were quickly...served and the food hot and fresh . We were glad we didnt opt for Jumbo size as it was massive ! Very nice and good valueMore

What a chippy!

Went to Drakes today with my friend. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the overall experience was great. We got served and talked to a waitress called Millie who made the experience. A very lovely young lady. We will be back. THANKYOU DRAKES!

Almost missed it. Best fish and chips for years

Walking passed tge fish and chip shop. At last minute spotted the restaurant sign and so glad we did. Best fish and chips for a long time. Freshly cooked, light batter, nice fish, ushy peas Yorkshire tea whats not to like. Highly recommended

Superb

One of the best fish and chip meals l have ever eaten. Piping hot, freshly cooked, the chips were crispy and the fish delicious. All were served in the restaurant at the back of the cafe. Well worth a visit if you want a quick...tasty meal.More

Best Chippy around

This place never fails, friendly staff, always make you feel welcome, and the food is amazing, it’s the best quality fish and chips we heave ever had, every time we come to York we have to visit, couldn’t recommend this enough

Tasty , great value.

We ate here for lunch on a recent visit to York The gluten free fish and chips were absolutely delicious. Lovely little place. Definitely worth a visit.

First class at Drakes

Drakes Is First class,the fish and chips was perfect and the service was First class,all staff were very pleasant and friendly, i would definitely recommend Drakes.

Restaurant

Always very good nice location and welcoming friendly staff. I always rate the place highly and have been many times. Recently the quality has dropped greasy soggy pale chips not edible. Hopefully it will improve. Fish overcooked many new staff not great really in general.

Excellent fish and chips

The nicest fish and chips I have had in quite some time. Fresh lovely white fish in thin crispy batter, delicious chips and very good mushy peas and curry sauce. The staff were lovely too.

The Best Welcome, The Best Food!

Wow! A wonderful warm and friendly greeting by our hostess Nikki who guided us to a great table, was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu and treated us like family! All the staff were incredibly attentive and warm it was a lovely atmosphere...to be in! The Haddock was absolutely the best I've ever had and the chips and peas..absolutely delicious, fresh, hot and not greasy at all.I wish I lived above it! I'd eat there every day! I was blown away and quite emotional with the generosity of Nikki, an absolute sweetheart and a credit to the establishment. We weren't charged for all our food as a birthday gift. A random act of kindness that I will remember for ever that made my birthday feel special. Thank you all so much ❤️More
