Had dinner here one evening in York. I had the Yorkshire Platter (ham, cheese, chutney, bread, apple) and husband had the Hunter's Platter (venison, boar, sausage, ham, bread, salad). The food was very good and atmosphere was excellent. Very eclectic decor.

We had been recommended this place by friends who had visited previously, and I am glad we did.The restaurant sits on the upper floor with a specialist beer and spirits store. The restaurant /bar serves individually chosen beers and fantastic locally sourced food,. I was floored by the large steak pie with mash and mushy pease. My wife took the... More

Went here with my partner for lunch on a Friday. Really busy but managed to get seats after a short wait. Had lunch which was good. What a selection of beer. Staff were really helpful and informative and guided us through various beers on both the Friday and Saturday when we came back for a return visit. Downstairs there is... More

Great little Bruges like bar full of strong beers and hearty laughter! The animal heads adorn the walls and the candle wax sculptures on every table give this place an antiquated atmosphere!

It worth a visit! We stopped because very recommended on tripadvisor. shop downstairs with hundreds of beers! Upstairs very warm and particular bar with few tables. We tried the cheese and bear soup that was DELICIOUS and the Lamb stew with a couple of beers. Next time we will try the Burger that looked very good!

Been a good few times. Can get busy and you might have to queue to get in, but worth it. Lots of good beers to choose from. Not much seating, but what there is comfy and cozy :-)

We visited House of the Trembling Madness whilst shopping in York. The place is really quaint, plenty of atmosphere and good food and drink. Will definitely return next time we are in York.

Had heard about this place, its friendly, cosy and food smells and looks lovely. Good choice of beers and other drinks. Steep stairs to get to bar and it does get busy but worth a visit as it's so unique. Downstairs toilets have no sink in, take your own hand gell, seems a bit odd. Great to visit

The shop downstairs has an incredible range of global beers. It was great to rediscover some of my favourite holiday beers. Upstairs is a cosy and very quirky pub. A number of taxidermy animals decorate the walls. They serve a variety of different beers on tap behind the bar and at a very reasonable price (compared to the London prices... More

Good selection of beers. The food choice is extensive and looks as good as it tastes. The only drawback is that it is a small place and feels a bit crowded. I love the animal heads on the walls but I guess they won't be to everyone's taste! Great atmosphere.
