Been a good few times. Can get busy and you might have to queue to get in, but worth it. Lots of good beers to choose from. Not much seating, but what there is comfy and cozy :-)

We visited House of the Trembling Madness whilst shopping in York. The place is really quaint, plenty of atmosphere and good food and drink. Will definitely return next time we are in York.

Had heard about this place, its friendly, cosy and food smells and looks lovely. Good choice of beers and other drinks. Steep stairs to get to bar and it does get busy but worth a visit as it's so unique. Downstairs toilets have no sink in, take your own hand gell, seems a bit odd. Great to visit

The shop downstairs has an incredible range of global beers. It was great to rediscover some of my favourite holiday beers. Upstairs is a cosy and very quirky pub. A number of taxidermy animals decorate the walls. They serve a variety of different beers on tap behind the bar and at a very reasonable price (compared to the London prices... More

Good selection of beers. The food choice is extensive and looks as good as it tastes. The only drawback is that it is a small place and feels a bit crowded. I love the animal heads on the walls but I guess they won't be to everyone's taste! Great atmosphere.

You could easily walk past this establishment thinking it was simply an off-licence, but go through the shop and climb the stairs and you find yourself in a cosy medieval tavern! There's a good selection of beers on draught - no Carling here... and a great atmosphere. Gets our vote as best pub in York. And the shop has a... More

This place dating to 1100's looked awesome to tried to come for lunch but sadly no space as you can't book...the downstairs shop looked like an Aladdin cave of unusual drinks like honey mead etc, so look forward to going back in the future

I have been to York before but never overnight so didn't have the time to search for this pub. Finally went for 2 nights with my partner as we found it above a liquor store not far from The Evil Eye. It was very busy and there wasn't any seats so we managed to pull up 2 stools at the... More
