This seems to be number 128 on the list of 558 restaurants on Trip. Lucky you - you might just get a table. Ian Doyle produces Michelin quality tasting menu to the hotel guests and to restaurant guests. The service is professional but friendly with...great attention to detail. Add in the setting (including the original Jacobian wood panneling) it is a must if you want a tasting menu in York. Roots is a close second.More

After an enthusiastic recommendation from friends, we booked a mid-week break at Grays Court and a table for the tasting menu at The Bow Room. Happily it was an excellent decision on both counts. Our dining experience began with drinks in the bar which was...cosy and relaxed. After a short while we were shown to our table in the equally pleasant dining room. From the amuse-bouches to the final dessert course, every single dish was fantastic. Presented with flair and pride, cooked with skill and passion. The whole menu was well balanced and well thought out. I would be hard pushed to name a favourite course but I absolutely loved the langoustine dish. The treacle soda bread was out of this world too (thanks go to the chef for the extra portion we got to take away with us!). Our whole meal was wonderful. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive, and the ambience was just right for the occasion. The portions are by no means huge (nor should they be with this style of meal) but they were not small either and, by the end of the night I was absolutely stuffed. You definitely won't leave the table hungry. As tasting menus go, this is one of the best I have ever had and I would dine here again in an instant.More

Really delicious food. It's expensive but it's fine dining and standard price for tasting menus. Super charming staff. Great ingredients, fresh and full of flavour. Would recommend.

Loved it before, but the new chef takes the food experience to a new level. He ensures the food is the star - delighting your eyes, taste & texture. So difficult to pick a favourite. The wine choices and the cheeses were also inspiring so...nothing disappointed. And service was faultless. Can’t wait to return.More

the food was generally solid but they seemed to be troubled by the departure of the chef. I haven’t visited the venue before they got a new chef so I might not be the best to say. But, the new chef definitely has very strong...personalities and a lot of ideas judging from the dishes. it’s not bad at the beginning but gradually more and more conflicts arose. It felt like the ingredients were at war with each other. Luckily, the sommelier must be a genius and a master of peacemaking. The wine pairings perfectly neutralised the dishes and it made a lot of sense together. imo, it didn’t achieve the previous level of 3 AA rosette but it was fun and unique. Worth a tryMore

We loved this dinner. We went to Evensong at the Minster and then walked in the gardens of Gray's Court for a while before being seated in the Long Gallery for cocktails. The service was just right: friendly and frank, but the real star here...is the food. It was really very very good; in particular the incredible scallops and the apple dish. We were blown away by the apple. The produce was so exceptional I would have happily eaten a vegetarian menu, though I suppose I would have missed out on the scallops. I really enjoyed our wind down in the gallery afterwards, as well - the whole dinner had a particularly enjoyable ease to it, knowing we had the evening. My only note is that they really should buy some nicer tables for the Bow Room. The tables are weirdly bad. But I don't care! The apple!More

We visited the Bow room to celebrate our anniversary . We certainly were not disappointed. The location the setting the grounds and gardens along with the history of Grays Court and it’s interior decor helped to made the whole experience very special. We were greeted...on arrival with a very warm welcome and invited to take a pre-dinner drink whilst enjoying the views out to the stunning gardens and grounds . Here we also learned about its history dating back to Norman times which was very interesting and all added to the ambience. We were then taken through to our table for the tasting menu experience which we chose to do with the wine pairing. All the courses were perfectly executed and a pure pleasure to eat. I was particularly impressed by how the plates were presented using herbs and flowers from their own kitchen garden which both added decoration and enhanced the flavours. I am gluten-free and I have to say that I felt that there were no compromises made I was truly able to enjoy the full tasting experience in the same way my husband did. The chef had also baked me my own gluten-free treacle bread which was a real treat. We also had the pleasure of being served one of the courses at our table by the head chef which was a lovely touch he did this at all the tables. All the staff were attentive professional and very informative about the each course and the accompanying wine . We both had an extremely enjoyable evening and a memorable experience. It is a very special place which is a real asset to York and all its history. We will definitely look forward to going again.More

We had a family celebration here in March 2023, enjoying the [9] course tasting menu for 6 people. The location is right in the centre of York, close to the Minster and in a medieval building with a beautiful courtyard. Inside the place is very...sympathetically decorated and we learnt a bit about the history of the Grays Court, which dates back to Norman times. Upstairs is the restaurant, staff and service were really excellent. Even more impressive was the food, which was just brilliant. We enjoyed all the courses, all of which were brilliantly designed, cooked and presented. Thanks for a great evening, we'll be back!More

The meal is a tasting menu-which I'm always in two minds about-lots of courses-so it takes time in this case over three hours. However what I experienced was culinary skill and extreme effort from the kitchen and front of house staff. On the food side...there was nothing I disliked and some of the courses that showed that the chef and his team in the kitchen really do know about flavours and presentation.Ranging from very good to awesome The Bow Room is a fantastic setting and the front of house staff spot on.More

Lovely place with extensive gardens underneath the walls. Its quite sad that when you enter for a drink there is nobody to greet you then when someone ambles along you feel like they are doing you a favour. Move on

This was perfection. Not only was the food fantasic, but it was delivered in a friendly and loving way without fanfare or pretension. The was no standout single dish, No hit single as it it were. It was more of a concept album were every...dish flowed into the next to craete a whole. And it was the first tasting menu I've ever eaten where I didn't feel I'd eaten far too much. The wine list was lovely with prices that made me feel I hadn't been mugged. The bar nailed an old fashioned. The service was great. Just right. I can't fault this place. Worth every penny. I am so going back. I've got tears in my eyes writing this..More

Exquisite is not a term to use lightly,. But I was struggling to find the right word to describe our dinner at the Bow Room this week. This was the best food we've ever eaten. Yes, ever. Better than Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux...Quat' Saisons , Helene Darroze at the The Connaught, Tom Kitchin's restaurant in Edinburgh and Tom Kerridge at the Corinthia, to name four recent comparisons. Did any dish stand out in the degustation menu? No. And that was its genius. Each dish was so beautifully balanced and surprising that the overall experience was just supremely satisfying. Here is a chef who is clearly inspired by what he is creating and delighted to share that inspiration with others. No ego. No pretension. This is not just the best restaurant in York. In our view, it is the best restaurant in Britain.More
