Before travelling to Sri Lanka we decided to visit Coconut Lagoon that specialises in southern Indian food. Amazingly hidden on a busy street in York, we found the friendliest waiter, Joshua, and tasted delicious and authentic food.

We visited on a Saturday evening with young family. It was lovely not to be in busy central York. The waiters/owner we're very friendly and helpful. They explained which dishes were not too spicy for our 5 year old. The food was very well presented...and delicious. The devil's chicken tasted amazing and the chicken tikka masala and lamb Biryani were the best we've ever tasted.More

Delicious fresh food - we were a group of 9 and all ordered something different and all had a taste of everything and it was all delicious The staff are cheerful and helpful - nothing too much trouble Will definitely revisit.

I guess there are three basic elements to a good meal out, the food, the service and the price, it’s top marks for all of those, amazing food, beautifully served by an attentive waiter and for the cost of something far more ordinary.

I had a great experience at coconut lagoon. There quality of food and authentic South Indian cuisine was very overwhelming. Each dish reminds me about my old days in kerala. 9 of us went here for a meal out together. The staff were friendly and helpful. We all had varying tastes and the waiters were both able to make suggestions to help us choose - especially with levels of spiciness. The food was all wonderful....I had a mixed dish with different curries to taste. Everything I looked at was obviously being enjoyed by all my friends too. There was no pressure to finish and leave so we sat and chatted for quite a while. We all wanted to pay separately and that was done at the table, very easily. We all gasped when one lady paid with her watch but the waiter was completely happy. We would go again!More

Lovely experience! The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, and helped us with vegan options. Most vegetarian items can be made vegan, and if you ask for assistance you’re in safe hands. They even made sure we had a coconut sauce instead of raita...without us asking! Lovely food; lovely atmosphere.More

Easily the best Keralan or South Indian restaurant I have ever been to in the UK! Excellent main dishes, including some that were new to me such as Puttu and Kadala Curry, alongside the more familiar offerings like dosas and vada. The pooris (light oven-baked...breads) are heavenly!More

We are from Devon so South Indian food is a rarity for us. The masala bonda to start were lovely. Great sambar, and overall very tasty and filling. If you like South Indian or want something different to the average this is the place. Good...friendly service and good value.More

Fab early supper before theatre. Food and service was excellent. Will be back. Cauliflower starter was excellent and poppadoms come with excellent dips and crispy onions on top.

We had a fantastic meal in this restaurant . Two of our party are vegan and we had no problem finding lots of vegan options. The menu was slightly different to the usual Indian and gave us a chance to try new dishes. Would particularly...recommend the Kathrika Peralan an aubergine dish wish was full of flavour.
