Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved high tea at Betty’s. service is excellent, food superb, vegan options too. Piano music made the atmosphere as good as the food!

We booked for June 11th as a birthday treat from my boyfriend. We were in The Belmont Suite for afternoon tea. Our waitress Claire was lovely. They brought out a little birthday cake as the pianist played Happy Birthday to me. A lovely afternoon! Highly...recommended!More

Had an afternoon tea for my friends birthday and the service was incredible. They even brought out a little surprise birthday cake. Although bitesize portions, it was plenty enough and so tasty. Costly but worth it.

Betty's is my happy place. Haven't been back for almost 20 years. Was not disappointed. It is very much an institution and although not hip and with it, it's well worth a visit. The food is delicious, the staff is excellent. Enjoyable and an experience.

A couple of years since our last visit to Betty's and we were very disappointed. The staff and service were excellent but everything else seemed to have deteriorated. Didn't expect to have paper serviettes and found the afternoon tea very underwhelming for the price. The...sandwiches were okay but the bread was a little dry. The desserts again tasted okay but nothing special and were so small. Noticed the next table had the famous Fat Rascals, which we normally buy to take home but not this time. They should be renamed Skinny Rascals! Come on Betty's surely you can do better than this if you want to retain your reputation.More

First time to Bettys , on our 2 night stay we went twice. You have to Q as it's so popular. It's lovely the staff wear old fashioned uniforms which look ultra smart. Very efficient. Food very tasty. Not cheap but you are not going...every day. Wish we had one locally to where we live. Highly recommendedMore

When in York, go to Betty’s Tea Rooms. I’m not a massive fan of afternoon tea but the experience Betty’s was fairly good. I think it helped because the table had been booked so it was upstairs and to my slight surprise they had a...pianist playing to accompany the service. Sandwiches that you could ‘refill’ and a selection of scones et al… The service was good and well organised.More

Very disappointed in the service and the attitude of the serving staff. We wanted something from the menu without any garlic in and the only thing the waitress could advise was fish and chips. She kept repeating the same phrase about not being able to...guarantee anything which came out of the kitchen as not having garlic on it. We stipulated that we only wanted to know which dishes had actual garlic in them and asked about the Chicken Snitzel she said " we can only tell you what is printed on the packet", and she handed us a little card with allergies they are aware of and same phrase trotted out repeatedly. She had a rather loud voice and everyone started looking at us. The whole attitude was rather arrogant, as much as to say "We are Bettys and this is what we offer if you're not happy go elsewhere". So we ended up with fish and chips. Bettys should stick to tea and cakes in my opinion as the offerings on the menu are just the same as any other pub or restaurant, same old same old.More

As the title explains, it's all about the experience at Betty's tearoom. We had a table booked in the Belmont sweet upstairs, where we were greeted by lovely staff and shown to our table. There was a pianist playing light music, and the room was...busy with people enjoying their afternoon teas. We ordered our drinks, and shortly after they came, all looked wonderful. See photos. The flavours of the sandwichs were nice but not great, the scones were delicious. And the deserts were lovely. But the decor was very old and dated . But that's my taste. I'm not a fan of wood panelling. And the price was £50 each, which was, in reality, a sandwich each. And a couple of buns. But don't let this put you off. It was a lovely experience, and we are happy we've been. But it's not for me. I'm not into the pomp. And wouldn't ho again. And to be honest, it was that busy the place wouldn't miss the occasional average go not going again, as it can live of the thousands of tourists that visit York yearly.More

It's certainly recommended, especially this time of year! We didn't book and waited outside for at least 45 mins for a free table.
